Overview
A guide that highlights a few easy to play gods for new players and explains why they are good options.
Mages
–
Kukulkan is a very simple mage. His tornadoes allow you to easy apply damage with little aim required. The tornadoes also clear minion waves exceptionally well. His abilities are also very easy to understand. The last reason I see him as my number one choice for a new player is his high dammage ultimate that functions like a ra snipe, but with a more forgiving width.
–
Poseidon has very potent clear and easy to understand abilities. He has increased movement speed for survivabilty and a super simple ultimate. Pairing his whirl pool with his ultimate allows for 100-0 potential. He can also be rented at level two so players can test him out.
–
Zeus is a little more difficult to position that the other two gods because he cannot increase his movement speed to escape. That being said he can apply a ridiculous amount of damage with little effort in the aiming department. Using his shield you can have solid clear and can connect chain lightning easily.
–
Anubis is very unsafe because he has the lowest health scaling in the game. However, he has the highest damage output in the game. It is applied through a cone and a circle. If you sense you are in danger his ultimate is the highest damage ability in the game and can turn and melt your opponent. His clear from grasping hands is very good as well. Something that Anubis has that the mages listed above don’t is a hard CC in his kit outside of the ultimate. This allows him to set up damage when it connects.
–
Scylla is the hardest of the suggested mages, but she is the safest. She has an escape ability and very high damage off of large circles. Her clear is much weaker than the other mages though. Her ultimate is incredibly powerful but often requires set up.
Ah Puch has powerful wave clear, massive area damage that is borderline mindless to hit, and a massive zoning ult. The downfalls new players may have trouble with is survivability and mana consumption. Still a highly reccomended pick up.
Hunters
Artemis has terrible clear and weak ability power, but very potent basic attacks. This god is highly suggested for players with a good shooter background because you do not have to focus so much on abilities as you do just landing basic attacks. Her ult is very easy to get good utility out of it as well. However, she has low mobility and is at high risk of dying without her ultimate. Artemis is also a cheaper god to purchase with favor.
Neith is one of the most simple gods to play and one that you start with. She has the safety of her backflip, the sustain from her heal, potent clear, and unmissable ult (can be body blocked), and good CC from her ult and spirit arrow. She is a well rounded character that is easy to understand.
Chiron has abilities that are easy to land. His clear is pretty good and he is very safe with his dash. He has passive healing for sustain and an ability that can’t miss. Just well rounded like neith but with less control and relies more on basic attacks.
Cupid is an ability based hunter with obvious functions for each ability. He has moderate wave clear, a heal, a dash, and a large AOE ult that has CC to set up his heart bombs. I do caution players that have a hard time aiming when playng cupid because if you cannot land the heart bomb you will be pretty useless.
Warriors
WARNING: MELEE CHARACTERS ARE OFTEN HARDER TO PLAY THAN RANGED
Bellona-
Bellona has powerful abilities that are easy to understand, high damage output, good tankiness, high utility, and most importantly quite safe. She also has very good clear for a warrior.
Sun Wukong-
Wukong is a very safe warrior. His clear has nice safe range and power. He also has high escapability with his bird form and good disruption with his other animals. His ult has high healing and a lot of safety.
Ravana-
Ravana has potent clear with some sustain, but has a lot of lockdown with a slow and a root that are pretty easy to hit. His ult can be used for safety and to initiate. Most importantly he has an ability to be CC and damage immune for safety.
Guardians
Ymir-
Ymir has very straight forward abilities that a person can easily tell what each one is for. His control is very good with an easy to land stun and a slow. His lane presence is very powerful with good clear. His damage potential is also very high.
Ares-
Ares has little control but very high damage. If you can land his chains massive damage will ensue. The control Ares has is from the enemies fear of his damage output or him having ult. His ultimate is the reason I recommend him though. Using it on cooldown with CDR items will allow very easy set up for your team and allows for constant picks on targets who don’t have purification.
Kumbhakarna-
Kumbha has ridiculous amounts of CC in his kit that is easy to land. Mindlessly spamming his abilities can often be effective because of the amount of control it brings. Kumbha is also great set up for mage abilities and has two “dashes” for safety.
Assassins
Bastet-
Bastet has a leap that allows you to jump back making her an incredibly safe source of poke. Her abilities are easy to land and deal very good damage with high scaling. Most importantly her ult gives easy kills on low mobility targets and can allow for split pushing towers.
Thanatos-
Fan of Toast has a very simple kit that is easy to understand and use as well as easy to land powerful abilities. He is a good transition from mages to assassins. His ultimate also allows for easy kills and good initiation if you decide to just stun on a squishy target with it.
Arachne-
Arachne has a simple and straight forward kit that only suffers from low mobility that does not get punished at beginner ELO. The potential to snowball is very high and is aided by a strong early game that has strong gank potential.
Also:
I also always reccomend watching some YouTube gameplay or guide of any god before you try them to see their abilites. For builds go to smitejunkies.com for updated builds brought to you by pro players. I often see new players with outdated builds. Always have auto buy off because it doesnt sell your starter item leaving you with only 5 items. Feel free to comment any gods you thought were easy and liked when you started and why to give other suggestions for beginners.
