Top 5 guardians for arena
05. Ymir
<
<
Ymir is an astonishing guardian that works well in almost any gamemode. His wall is good against assassins like Mercury, Awillix, Nemesis. The Frostbite passive allows Ymir to do more damage using basic attacks, which is good if your abilities are on cooldown. Frost breath is Ymir’s main CC that focuses one or multiple targets and allows your team to follow up. His ultimate does insane damage if fully loaded and applies a 30% slow. However Ymir lacks mobility compared with other guardians so he need to buy blink to engage.
“press 1, press 3, press 2, Press 4 and 100-0 a squishy with all defense items! Yay for guardian Dmg” – Charmander787
“You don’t need the 1 for Ymir in many cases. I personally use it if I want to save a teammate, escape by putting a wall behind me or if I want to disrupt someone (the wall gets in the way and they can’t see anything as a result). Blink is useful.”-TheoHel
04. Athena
<
<
Athena is one of the most mobile guardians in Smite. Her ultimate has an advantage in arena, cause your allies are often surrounded by the enemy. This allows Athena to land and deal damage to multiple targets. The ultimate can be useful along with other gods like Ares, Hades, Xing Tian.
Athena’s dash/taunt combo works well with Medusa, Kukulkan, Ra or any other gods that do inline projectiles.
“great for both offense and defense, being able to clear, peel, and initiate fights without much trouble. Purification is a common active in arena, and since it is incredibly easy to camp at base it is important to have the ability to get pick-offs and pop purification without the need to blink in,” – Teemo
“Athena is very too much dependant on her damage dealers even if she get the best low cd crowd control of the game.” – Xaoyu
“Athena can set up a lot of kills with her taunt and she can do decent wave clear.” – Jethrac
03. Bacchus
<
<
Bacchus has a little bit of everything. The chubby bearded tank provides good cc, damage and mobility, but doesn’t necessarily exceed with any of the features in comparison to others. Despite that, he can still dominate the match and be played agressively troughout the whole game due to his true damage reduction passive.
“Bacchus because he is one of the best and hard to counter initiators in the game (jump + knockback in one ability, quick and next to no ways to prevent/counter), has high burst and AOE Damage and great tankiness.” – PapaRodin
“…very strong since his mana problems aren’t an issue in arena. Bacchus is best in chaotic environments where he can continuously grab pick-offs with or without the help of his team. However, he is a bit weaker in a losing situation. He can’t camp that well and his clear is poor.” – Teemo
“he get high true damage reduction with his passive and got 2 hard cc (knock up + stun) and one soft (intoxication)” – Xaoyu
“Bacchus. Good initiation, good CC, and tanky. The fat man also has enormous burst with his jump + ult combo. His stun and jump make for good peel, as well” – Shofixti
“CC, tankyness, Ult. Can save a team mate.” – Charmander787
02. Kumbhakarna
<
<
Kumbhakarna is one of the most crowd controlling guardians in Smite. His abilities compliment each other well, allowing Kumbha cc chain to last longer than any other God. This allows your allies to easily follow up. However, Kumbhakarna doesn’t offer significant damage like Ymir or Cabrakan and he is more single target oriented. His passive can be good if your team manages to defend you during the reawakening.
“Tanky, Great initiator, Great Team saver (mez), Amazing passive that can bait arena main greedy idiots ” – Charmander787
“Khumba because he got extremely easy CC while being able to deal huge damage easily too.” – Xaoyu
“I value Kumbha higher than most people would because his kit allows him to be very flexible. When jumping into the cesspool of solo queue you never know what type of teammates you will have and Kumbha can adapt to them all and perform well. He can compliment a highly aggressive team with constant set-ups, purification pops, and hard dives with blink (though unlike other guardians he doesn’t need blink). He does a great job of protecting a team of passive wussies with his chain of cc while punishing overextended enemies. In games where nobody on his team is paying attention to the portal Kumbha has no problems playing the farm game and he can do it quickly enough (w/ his 1) to still enable him to assist nearby teammates. To top it all off, if CC just isn’t enough he can sacrifice tankiness for damage and pull a Bacchus on a poor squishy with his combo. There are more scenarios, but you get the idea. Kumbha really doesn’t have any weaknesses other than his own bad teammates that may ruin his set-ups for others. He’s a safe and reliable pick.” – Teemo
“Kumbhakarna. Tons of CC, fairly mobile, can set up tons of abilities for other players via root and mez, and his ult can banish an enemy damage dealer or finish people off. Can also be used to get out of CC due to its own brief CC immunity. ” – Shofixti
01. Ares
<
<
Ares hands down is the best guardian pick for arena. His ultimate is that good. Similar to Odin’s ult, the enemy needs to buy a relic to counter it (in this situation is beads). The chains have a very huge benefit in arena due to the smaller map. A good Ares player will build max cooldown items and popping their ultimate once every 60 seconds. The beads cooldown is 160 seconds, so the enemy would either have to buy magi’s blessing or stay safe distance away from combat. Besides the ridiculously powerful ultimate, Ares can also cripple you with his chains and burst you down from 100 to 0. On top of that, he has abilities that offer cc reduction buff and temporary immunity to knockbacks, making him on top of the food chain and a force to be reckon with. His only weakness is lack of mobility, which is good, because otherwise everyone would pick him 24/7.
“Ares because the damage coming from his chains is ridiculous, no matter the build and because his ultimate is his ultimate.” – PapaRodin
” Ares is a pubstomper. If you are in low – mid mmr, Ares can carry games singlehanded just based off his ultimate alone. This was even more true back before Season 3 when you had to purchase beads to avoid being pulled. You’d be shocked at how many people still don’t grab purification against Ares. The thing is, Ares falls off hard at higher level matches since people are more canny to spreading out, camping, and countering his ultimate with their own if possible. If you want to run Ares in this scenario, it is best to run him with other gods that force actives and pop purification often — Hun Batz, Poseidon and Cupid are good examples. Its also important to mention that his clear is non-existent so if your teammates are running around like chickens with their heads cut off ignoring the minions, Ares is going to have a hard time babysitting the portal. Overall, I believe Ares is highly overrated but he can still do amazing work with the right team comp.” – Teemo
“Ares since he can easily shut escapes down while having an awesome ult and being able to 100-0 anyone.” – Xaoyu
“Ares. No Escape is the main thing that makes him useful in arena, though with the longer blink cooldown he’s not the ultimate top pick anymore. Still a solid choice though, if the player is good with him. If not? Ugh.” – Shofixti
“great in Arena, not so good in other modes. ” – Sepherim
“If you are playing him in arena, go kill yourself you sweaty arena main (I hate that boy. Get max CDR real quick and just spam ults to waste beads)” – Charmander787
