Ludwig II Bavaria Guide for Sid Meier's Civilization V

Ludwig II Bavaria Guide

Overview

Are you looking for a Civ that can build wonders besides Egypt? How about a Civ that gives conquered cities free castles? Then the Kingdom of Bavaria is the Civ for you. Led by the excessive castle builder, Ludwig II, Bavaria is ready to conquer. Bavarias ability, Der Marchenkonig, gives +15% Production towards wonders and conquered cities get a free castle. Bavarias unique happiness building, Biergarten, replaces the colosseum and gives +3 Happiness. Also Bavaria has access to thier powerful late game unit, the Bavarian Landwehr, that replaces the rifleman. With Bavaria as a wonder based Civ, you are ready to conquer, expand, and play as Bavaria. (NOTE: THIS IS CIV IS A MOD. IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS OF THIS GUIDE, YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE KINGDOM OF BAVARIA MOD IN THE STEAM WORKSHOP!)

Bavaria Rising

Players know how to start out, but I always go through it just in case. I don’t recommend any map type like I do for other Civs, so use whatever map you want. As long as you are able to expand then you are fine. As for victories go, I recommend going for Domination Victory, just because free castles in conquered cities is hard to turn down, but you can also choose any other victory.

Bavaria is another wonder and happiness based Civ. The unique ability, Der Marchenkonig, gives +15% Production towards wonders and also grants free castles in conquered cities. This gives Bavaria a head start on wonders, which most players go for throughout the game. A free castle in every conquered city gives a combat defense boost in conquered cities, delaying enemy attmepts to retake any conquered city. As for Social Policies, I recommend going for Tradition, not only for the bonas culture in your city/cities, but for the extra +15 Production when you adopt Aristocracy. This can give +30% total Production towards wonders. This isn’t really a big boost, but it can get you ahead of the AI.

Bavarias unique building, Biergaten, reaplaces the colosseum. Despite this building replacing the colosseum, this building gives an equal amount of happiness. The +3 Happiness helps alot, espically when you are constantly expanding. Happiness goes a long way (NOTE: SEE MY GANDHI INDIA GUIDE FOR MORE ON HAPPINESS)

Bavaria has also access to a powerful late game unit called the Bavarian Landwehr. This unit replaces the rifleman for most other Civs. Also this powerful unit only takes 3 turns to make, allowing Bavaria to pump out this unit quickly. In turn, this allows Bavaria to use thier unique unit quickly. This also means that you must recruit them quickly, because if you advance too quickly, you might not be able to recruit the unit anymore.

Now that you know how to use Bavaria to your advantage, you can expand, conquer and play as Bavaria!.
