Faithful Cartographer

Overview

Preamble

With the Faithful Cartographer update The Long Dark eventually introduced the possibility to sketch all the maps in the game. This guide tries to provide fully uncovered versions of these maps which also show all the discoverable locations and even the resources available.

There are only very few cosmetic changes I made to my maps and the ones I applied are always at the borders where sometimes a black hole or an ugly spot existed that I couldn’t eliminate just by using the mapping feature. Everything else is raw material which means everybody is able to discover as much of the maps as I did in this guide. However, there are sometimes resources, corpses or even buildings the game wouldn’t add regardless of how many times I would try. In these cases I used Photoshop to include said things to my maps. I really try to make them as complete as possible but since the game uses randomization you should be aware that some resources might not be listed.

What about those cairns?

The cairns are dedicated to the early backers of The Long Dark but at the moment they are kind of half-baked. Some of their locations appear to be impossible to reach and the tracking feature that provides the information about which ones you’ve already found doesn’t work properly. So before
I start searching for those cairns and add them to my maps I’ll wait until everything is solved.
