- you get both “Treatment Plant Complete” and “Hey, Queenie! Feast on this!” simultaneously on the Rank screen
- obtained Rank doesn’t matter
completions
Finish the game with rank S
- in order to obtain rank S you need to beat the game under 3:30. that’s it, no other requirements. contrary to some other Resident Evil games, there are no requirement to the number of saves, usage of First-Aid Spray, etc. only your total time matters
- a current world record speedrun for this game is 1h-16m-43s; with a slow pacing and knowing where everything is you can easily finish that game in ~2h, even faster with various unlockables
- works with bonus weapons and infinity ammo (read “Leech Hunter” part for details)
- works with all difficulties
Finish the game without using a First-Aid Spray
Finish the game without combining herbs
Finish the game without using a recovery item (including Green Chemicals)
- it is highly recommended to get those three achievements in one go, since they are quite similar – in other words beat the game without using any healing items and you will get all three those achievements
- it might sound like a tough task, but noone stops you from saving a lot. there is x46 Ink Ribbons in the game in total (x34 on Hard difficulty). Ink Ribbons are mostly located in the saverooms (x3 Ink Ribbons per room), but some are also scattered across various rooms. the table below tells the amount of Ink Ribbons per level
Trainx7 Ink Ribbonssaverooms, Cabin 201, Cabin 101Training Facilityx12 Ink Ribbonssaverooms, Marcus’ office (Book of Evil), Main Library (Microfilm A)Facility Basementx6 Ink RibbonssaveroomsLaboratoryx9 Ink RibbonssaveroomsFactoryx3 Ink RibbonssaveroomsTreatment Plantx9 Ink Ribbonssaverooms
- works with bonus weapons and infinity ammo (read “Leech Hunter” part for details)
- works with all difficulties
- the in-game Rank should say “Recoveries: 0”
Finish the game without saving
- a step-up comparing with the previous achievements, now you need to beat the whole game in one go, without saving (aka – don’t die)
- it is really recommended to obtain bonus weapons and infinity ammo (read “Leech Hunter” part for details)
- overall, if you use bonus weapons and infinity ammo, then this task is not that hard, just time-consuming (a regular full walkthrough will take ~2h). few advice:
- don’t play in Fullscreen! game may crash if you ALT+TAB from while the game in Fullscreen. instead play in Windowed mode
- definitely pick all healing items you can find (doesn’t matter Herbs or First Aid Sprays), store them all in one room and have few of them with you – don’t be cocky, always heal yourself
- in the “Treatment Plant” Lurkers (zombie-frogs) may attack you randomly in some areas. they may one-shot-kill you, but they are slow – shoot them asap and you will be alright
- before fighting Queen Leech’s 2nd form – fully heal Rebecca’s health (even is she is “FINE”). bring tons of medicine for her
- works with all difficulties
- the in-game Rank should say “Saves: 0”
Defeat all bosses except Centurion using Rebecca
- funny little achievement – you have to kill all bosses with Rebecca. the list of bosses you need to kill with her:
- STINGER – a scorpion-like boss in Train. in order to fight him as Rebecca you need to send Billy to repair the electricity, get shocked and being stuck in the room, so Rebecca had to save him
- CENTURION – only Billy fights that boss, so skip
- INFECTED BAT – a giant bat-like creature you fight in the Church. have Billy to stand on the plate to open the Church’s doors and let Rebecca to fight that boss
- PROTO TYRANT #1 – only Rebecca fights that boss
- PROTO TYRANT #2 – leave Billy above and make Rebecca go alone down the elevator and fight the boss
- QUEEN LEECH #1 – during that fight either unequip all weapons from Billy, or made him idle (so he will not shoot the boss). be sure that all damage to the boss is done by Rebecca
- QUEEN LEECH #2 – same thing as above, ensure that Billy don’t shoot that boss at all
- QUEEN LEECH #3 – only Billy fights that boss, so skip
- you have to kill all the bosses with Rebecca in one playthrough. if you done everything right, you will get that achievement on Rank screen
From Zero to Hero
Finish the game on Hard difficulty
- I wrote a walkthrough for Hard difficulty (at the end of that guide)
- saves done on Hard difficulty have red outline in Loading/Saving screen:
- the differences between Hard and Normal difficulties:
- enemies (including bosses) have +20% health, but deal the same amount of damage
- your characters have the same amount of health (150 HP for Rebecca, 250 HP for Billy)
- some ammo are removed or halved
- some First Aid-Sprays are removed
- some Herbs are removed or replaced with different Herbs
- Ink Ribbons are given less (x46 Ink Ribbons on Normal, x34 on Hard)
- some general guidelines and route:
- use Billy whenever you can. he has more health and can survive more damage (250HP for Billy, 150HP for Rebecca), making him healing from DANGER to FINE status with Red+Green mix or First Aid-Sprays is more beneficial
- you can re-position zombies by entering/exiting the room, so if you want to save ammo, then constantly reenter the room until zombies’ positions will be good for you
- be ready to backtrack a lot to stash all your resources when you advance the game further
- don’t bring Ink Ribbon with you, throw them away in the saverooms (bring them with you only when you move to the another zone)
- if you save Handgun and Shotgun ammo in the beginning, then the game will be very easy later. try to not kill a lot of enemies in Train and Training Facility and you eventually will get 250+ Handgun ammo and 30+ Shotgun Ammo before the final boss
- you need only one Handgun for the whole game, so dispatch the second one immediately (but first waste its 15 ammo on some zombie). both Handguns are absolutely identical and deal the same damage
- use Shotgun against zombies: headshot them by aiming up at their heads. Hard mode gives you plenty of Shotgun Ammo and you will not use it against bosses, so use it plentiful
- Hunting Gun is useless, don’t bother with it. use it until you get Shotgun and then throw it away. it has higher chance of headshotting zombies, but you will not have issues with Shotgun either
- in the whole Hard mode there are only x12 Napalm Grenades, x12 Acid Grenades and x18 regular Grenades (including x6 Grenades that come with Launcher originally)
- bosses:
- Stinger – use Knife
- Centurion – use Handgun (~40 ammo)
- Giant Bat – use x5 Napalm Rounds (stunlock it)
- Proto-Tyrant – use Handgun (~40 ammo). he is doing only one attack which is easily dodgeable by running left
- Proto-Tyrant (again) – use Magnum (~10 ammo) + Handgun (~8 ammo)
- Queen Leech Form 1 – use Magnum (~12 ammo) + Pistol (~30 ammo) or regular Grenades
- Queen Leech Form 2 – use whatever you left for Magnum and all GL’s rounds you have collected
- there are only three Mimicry Marcus you have to kill in entire game (because you walk through those rooms a lot, and those enemies will damage you eventually):
- in Training Facility (room – “Narrow Corridor A”, near “Broadcast Room”)
- in Laboratory (room – “Elevator Passage” where you insert Blue Leech Charm to open the door)
- in Treatment Plant (room – “L Corridor”)
collectables
Once Again vs Restartwhen you finished the game and trying to load “Clear” save, game will ask you whether you want to “Once Again” or “Restart”
- “Once Again” keeps your achievements’ progress across runs
- “Restart” erases your achievements’ progress
for example, imagine you are going for “Fileophile” achievement (Read all files) and you managed to miss some files. if you select “Once Again” you just need to read missed files to get the achievement, but if your pick “Restart” then you need all files all over again. same for “Find Time to Combine” and “I Could Shoot, You Know” achievements
the bottomline – always pick “Once Again”, until you really need to “Restart”
Combine every type of herb with each other
- read the “Once Again vs Restart” paragraph above
- for that achievement you need to combine (create) all six possible Herb Mixes in the game.
- you can obtain that achievement in “Leech Hunter” mode
- you have to create the following Herb mixes:
- GREEN + GREEN
- GREEN + GREEN + GREEN
- GREEN + RED
- GREEN + BLUE
- GREEN + GREEN + BLUE (that one is very easy to miss!)
- GREEN + RED + BLUE
- there are x4 Blue Herbs in the main game, so, technically, you may finish that achievement in one playthrough
- x2 in “Medicine Room” (where you find Green Chemical)
- x1 in “Boiler Room” (on the way to Animal-Torches puzzle)
- x1 in “Observation Room” (Facility Basement B1)
Read all files
- read the “Once Again vs Restart” paragraph above
- self-explanatory. you need to read all in-game files. there are x29 in total:
- the following files you obtain automatically during the course of the game (no need to find them specially): “Player’s Manual 1”, “Player’s Manual 2”, “Court Order for Transportation”, “Hookshot Operator’s Manual”, “Brake Operation Manual”, “Marcus’ Diary 1”, “Microfilm Image”, “Old Photograph”, “Gate Operation Manual”)
- the locations of all files:
Obtain all keys and use them all
- almost unmissable achievement – you have to obtain all keys and unlock all doors in order to progress the game, so you can’t actually miss anything here, besides…
- …one key and a its locker are optional and you may miss them. that locker contains custom details for handgun, read “Custom to Bust ‘Em” achievement for details
Create a Custom Handgun
- in order to create a Custom Handgun you need to find a Key and Locker to open with it. the details for Handgun will be inside that Locker. you can find both in “Facility Basement B3”:
Obtain all weapons
- read the “Once Again vs Restart” paragraph above
- the list of all weapons in the game:
Rebecca’s Handgundefault weaponBilly’s Handgundefault weaponKnife #1default weaponKnife #2Train 2F, Cabin 102Hunting GunTrain 2F, Cabin 101ShotgunTraining Facility 1F, Storage RoomGrenade LauncherTraining Facility 2F, Art RoomMagnumLaboratory B2, Cable CarMolotov Cocktailcombine “Gas Tank” and “Empty Bottle”Rebecca’s Custom Handgunsee “Custom to Bust ‘Em” achievementBilly’s Custom Handgunsee “Custom to Bust ‘Em” achievementSub-Machineguncomplete the game with Rank A+Rocket Launchercomplete the game with Rank SMagnum Revolvercomplete “Leech Hunter” with Rank B+
- you don’t need to carry those weapons with you or kill anybody with them – just picking them once (make them to appear in your inventory), and throwing them away is enough
- yes, the second knife counts as a separate weapon, you have to pick it up at least once
- as you can see, you need both Rebecca’s & Billy’s Custom Handguns, so upgrade one gun in one playthrough, start “Once Again” and then upgrade another gun (don’t forget which weapon you have upgraded the first time, keep a separate savefile if you must)
- you obtain Sub-Machinegun and Rocket Launcher by finishing the game under 3:30 and 5:00 respectively:
- you obtain Magnum Revolver by collecting at least 90 leeches (of any color) in “Leech Hunter”:
enemies and kills
Break free of a Cerberus while they are biting you or trying to push you down
- Cerberus is a zombie-dog. there are just four Cerberuses in the whole game and all of them are located in Train. good news is that you fight first two in like first minute of the game
- to get that achievement don’t attack Cerberuses, just stand still and wait until they either bite your arm or push you down on the floor. any of those two attacks qualify for the achievement
- another Cerberus’ attack, where jumps at you, doesn’t count
Shoot down a Hunter or an Eliminator while they are jump attacking in the air
- Eliminators are monkey-like enemies[residentevil.fandom.com] that noone likes and Hunters are green reptile-like enemies[residentevil.fandom.com] (like I have to told that…)
- that achievement is very easy and you will obtain it eventually without any advice or trick
- I believe catching a flying Hunter is easier than Eliminator
Get picked up by the Infected Bat
- during the fight with Giant Bat (Boss #3), just stand still and wait until that boss catch you and lead into the air
Attack an enemy to save your partner who is grappling with that enemy
- quite an easy task – let enemy to attack your partner and then save him/her by shooting the enemy off
- the easiest way to do is to unequip partner’s weapon and purposely send him to enemy. it seems that achievement works with all enemies, but Eliminators (easier to do with zombies and Hunters, tho)
Defeat an enemy with a critical-hit headshot
- easier to do with a Shotgun. wait until zombie comes closer, aim up and shoot. awesome
- timing is a not that critical but something you have to mind. the best time to shoot is right BEFORE zombie is going to grab you (before zombie raises his arms). it might sound tough, but it really isn’t
Destroy a zombie’s legs
- easier to do with Shotgun. wait until zombie comes closer, aim down and shoot. simple as that
Defeat a zombie by stomping on them
- there are some zombies around the game lying on the floor. if you come closer to them, then they will grab character’s leg and bite a bit, only being stomped by a character – that is what you need to do…
- …but you can also use Shotgun, shoot at zombie’s legs (see “Misdirected Hostility” achievement), come closer to them – and they will bite you
Defeat an enemy by burning them
- you can get that achievement in two different ways: either with Molotovs or with GL’s Napalm Grenade. both those weapons will work
- it seems that this achievement doesn’t work with Hunters and Eliminators, so, look for zombies or Mimicry Marcus, but the latter one is better because there is a special achievement for it, see “How ‘Bout a Light, Bud?” achievement
Defeat Mimicry Marcus with a Molotov Cocktail or a Napalm Grenade
- like “Burned Alive” achievement above, but you have to kill Mimicry Marcus. I mean, the game actually tells you that the only ways to safely kill that enemy is to use any fire weapons, so you have no option but to use Molotovs or Napalm Grenade against him, making that achievement trivial
- the first Mimicry Marcus that you can easily kill with either of those weapons is located in “Bathroom” (Training Facility 1F). in that room you can find Empty Bottle and Gas Tank and assemble some Molotovs. when you try to exit the room Mimicry Marcus will attack you. use freshly made Molotovs against him (you need x3 Molotovs to kill one Mimicry Marcus)
- Rebecca throws Molotovs way better than Billy, use her
Defeat an enemy with a knife
- quite a trivial task you can accomplish on Train. just kill any zombie with a knife. play on Easy mode if you have troubles
- bosses count too. since most players prefer to kill Stinger with a Knife, you can obtain that achievement here
- all 100% damage dealt to the enemy should be done with a knife. if you think to use, say, a handgun to weaken a foe and then finish him off with a Knife – it will not work
Defeat Mimicry Marcus for the first time only using a knife
- it may sound like a tremendously hard achievement, because of how vicious Mimicry Marcus is – but you can cheese that achievement in “Leech Hunter” mode
- start off by going into the “Dining Room” and “Lecture Room” and picking up two knives here
- give each character a knife and proceed to “West Wing Corridor”
- control Rebecca and give Billy command to act alone and attack. now together just spam attacks on a poor Mimicry Marcus. it will be good if he will agro on Billy (since he has more health), but anyway with that setup you will quickly get the achievement. you receive it right before enemy’s explosion
- all 100% damage to enemy shall be done with a knife
miscellaneous
Change into a costume
- open Inventory, select “Mixing Set” and choose “Switch” option. “Mixing Set” will be changed into “Suitcase”
- Use it and change Rebecca’s or Billy’s outfit to some different one
- Rebecca has “Western” and “Leather” outfits, and Billy has “Jacket” outfit. if you want more costumes, then purchase DLCs
- one DLC with various T-Shirt designs is free. those T-shirts were designed by players/artists and there was a contest for including them into the game[residentevil.fandom.com]
- and if you want you can create your own T-shirt
[link]
Create a Molotov Cocktail
- find “Empty Bottle” and find “Gas Tank”. combine them, and voila
- usually, both those items are located in a close proximity, either in the same room, or in adjoined rooms
Use a Green Chemical
- proceed to “Medicine Room” (Training Facility 2F) and find that green canister
- use it, Rebecca will collect Green Chemical, open Inventory and use “Mixing Set”. achievement is yours
- and if you wonder what does it do – Green Chemical is antidote. in case you get poisoned and there are no Blue Herbs around you can use Green Chemical to cure yourself
Play the piano using Rebecca
- proceed to “Piano Bar” (Training Facility 2F) and play piano here as Rebecca
- that achievement is missable – if you didn’t play the piano before obtaining Battery, then you missed your chance and have to start over or reload
- everyone in Resident Evil just has to play the piano…
Try to push something heavy with Rebecca
- proceed to “Small Library” (Training Facility 2F) and push a bookshelf as Rebecca
Defeat 16 bats in the church
- quite tough achievement for lots of reasons. during the fight with Giant Bat lots of small bats will spawn. you have to shoot down x16 of those small bats:
- the first bunch of small bats (x8) spawns when you Giant Bat’s health reaches 50%.
- the second bunch of small bats (will continually spawning until the boss is dead) appear when Giant Bat’s health is 25%
- what you need to do is to deal damage to Giant Bat to make the first bunch of small bats to appear, kill them all, then damage the boss a little to make more small bats to spawn and continue killing them until the achievement
- you have to be careful, not to kill the boss prematurely or else you have to start from the beginning. for that reason alone, don’t play on Easy difficulty – the boss dies here very fast. maybe try Hard, or at least Normal
- use Shotgun – it has a great arc of attack that kills lots of bats at the same time, while dealing the minimum damage to the boss (when he is far away)
- I don’t find Handgun or Wesker’s vision any useful during that challenge: the former deals a lot of damage to the boss, while the second cannot be accurately used due to bats’ attacks
- you can save during the battle. so you may try to do the following: make the second bunch of bats to appear, save the game, and try to kill them
Wesker Mode
Put on Team Wesker costume
- finish the game at least once and you will unlock Wesker Mode. you can start it from Main Menu, in “Extras”
- it is basically the same game, only Billy is replaced with RE5 Wesker (no DC Douglas voiceover, tho, booo~). Wesker can dash and use a special “Death Stare” attack (game explains the control)
- VERY IMPORTANT, even tho Wesker Mode carries all your other unlocks (like Bonus Weapons and Infinity Ammo) – do not overwrite your other (main) “Clean” file. keep “Wesker Mode” separate from the main game
- Wesker Mode is always of Normal difficulty (afaik) and has Purple highlight on save/load screen
- beat the Wesker Mode and game will tell you about new outfit you have unlocked. select it via Suitcase (see “Fashion Plate” achievement for the help). you can use that outfit in save (even in a completely new game)
Kill 50 enemies with the Death Stare at full charge
- while playing as Wesker use fully-charged Death Stare attack to kill x50 enemies in one playthrough (any enemies count, including bosses, but you mostly will kill zombies with it)
- Death Stare has three ranges: yellow, orange, red. red is a fully-charged Death Stare attack, it has the max range and damage potential and takes ~2.5sec to charge
- …that is awesome
Leech Hunter
Play Leech Hunter
Finish Leech Hunter with rank E or above
Finish Leech Hunter with rank A
- beat the game at least once and you will unlock “Leech Hunter” mini-game for that “Clean” file
- the difficulty of “Leech Hunter” depends on the difficulty of the completed game. so if you beat the game on Hard, then “Leech Hunter” on that particular savefile will be of Hard difficulty too. so, you can cheese your playthrough by finishing the game on Easy and then playing “Leech Hunter” on Easy respectively
- a full session of “Leech Hunter” takes at least ~60min, but collecting all leeches may take up to ~90min
- game explains the rule of “Leech Hunter” pretty well, will not cover them here
- when you start “Leech Hunter”, game randomly selects one of five possible variants of items/weapons locations (yes, five, not three as lots of guides say). you can quickly glance at what variant game picked for you by two factors:
- a) what kind of Herbs do you have in “Main Hall”:
- b) what kind of Leech Charm you have in front of basement and near the ladder:
- those variants have the following main differences:
- besides that, variants are differ in a matter of Leech Charms’ colors in various rooms
- the overview of all five variants:
- variant #1 & 2:
- variant #3 & 4:
- variant #5:
LEGEND:
HG – Handgun
SG – Shotgun
MG – Magnum
GL – Grenade Launcher
G – regular grenades
A – Acid grenades
N – Napalm grenades
- variant #1/2 (SMG + x30 Acid GL) is the best and easiest setup you may get in that minigame. it is highly recommended to reload “Leech Hunter” until you get x2 Green herbs in the “Main Hall”
- received rank depends on how many leeches you have collected:
- you receive “Trying Out New Things” achievement as soon as you start this minigame, and receive “Leech-Shaped Hole in my Heart” achievement when you finish it via main entrance(no need to even pick a single leech)
- for “A Weird Interest in Leeches” you need to collect all x100 leeches, like this:
Collect all of only one color of Leech Charms
- for that achievement you need to collect either x50 green leeches or x50 blue leeches – and do not pick any of other color. you may interact with them, even refuse to pickup, but as soon as you put “a wrong colored leech” in your inventory you have to start over
- you receive that achievement when you exit the game via main entrance
Defeat all enemies in Leech Hunter
- very tricky achievement for various reasons. to begin with this is a map of all default enemies:
LEGEND:
Z – Zombie
H – Hunters
E – Eliminators
C – Crawlers
B – Birds (Crows)
M – Mimicry Marcus
S – Spiders
- after you collected x90 leeches (of any color) more enemies will spawn in various rooms (mostly zombies, but also one Crawler):
- you obtain achievement as soon as you kill the last enemy (no need to exit the game via main entrance). if you killed supposedly the last enemy but didn’t get achievement, then you missed a one or few. maybe some laying on the floor zombie?
- to make that achievement easier – collect x50 green leeches (as Rebecca) and x40 blue leeches (as Billy). this way Billy will have two spare item slots to mange his weaponry
walkthrough: From Zero to Hero (1)
a thesis-like walkthrough I wrote about beating the game on Hard difficulty
walkthrough assumes that you already beat the game once or twice and have a full idea of game’s flow, key items locations, saverooms, enemies, bosses, etc
use those interactive maps[www.evilresource.com] to know where which room is located
- the main idea here is to conserve all your ammo until it is really necessary to kill enemies
- in first room shoot a zombie behind you and one zombie in front (no need to kill the third one) and then leave:
- kill both Cerberus (they will hurt you 1-2 times). pickup Handgun Ammo from Edward:
- in “Cabin #202” collect Ink Ribbon (no Handgun Ammo on Hard difficulty)
- in “Cabin #201” – pick Green Herb and x3 Ink Ribbon
- SAVE (left: x3)
- go meet Billy. use whatever ammo you left to damage/kill zombies, but don’t reload the gun! if some zombies in your way, then re-enter the room
- don’t fight Mimicry Marcus, just walk down the stairs and Billy auto-save you
- make the following inventory arrangements (throw away empty Handgun):
- send Rebecca to the roof, get stuck in the room, pick Handgun Ammo and Green Herb, send Conductor’s Key to Billy
- Billy has to navigate through two cars full of zombies. you can try to avoid zombies, but mainly just dash through. Billy can survive four grabs (fifth one is fatal). if you get a DANGER health don’t worry, you will heal yourself in a minute
- in “Conductor’s Office” pick Green Herb and Red Herb,
- SAVE (left: x2)
- in corridor above pick Red Herb (appears in Hard mode instead of Green herb)
- if your health is bad, then FA Spray in “Cabin 101” (we will return for the other things in about in a minute), pick Ice Pick outside
- STINGER. for that boss fight you are going to use a knife. fall back to the door and stab Stinger when his head appears on the screen. if you never done this, then you will, probably, fail a first time, but with practice and rhythm you can easily do this. don’t spam teh attacks! it takes ~25 stabs to kill them (effectively saving you 25 ammo). after the battle throw away Knife and pickup Panel Opener
- move all items from “Cabin 101” into a saveroom (Shotgun Ammo, Handgun Ammo, FA Spray, Ink Ribbon, Hunting Gun). equip yourself like this:
- SAVE (left: x2)
- you have to, one more time, go through cars full of zombies. reunite with Rebecca. mix Herbs, heal Billy. tell her to stay still (away from refrigerator!), and proceed to the next area
- it is easier to kill Cerberus from that position:
- open the door, kill zombie from a refrigerator. with a help of Rebecca pickup Bottles, Gas Tank (create Molotovs), Shotgun Ammo, Hookshot, Golden Ring (there is no FA Spray on Hard difficulty)
- use Billy,Molotovs and a few shots to kill zombies in the first cabin (we need that to help Rebecca pass that screen)
- travel to the roof via Hookshot (Rebecca shall stay in a “Dining Car”). kill a zombie inside “Cabin 102”, trigger Leeches, pick up Silver Ring, open Briefcase, use Blue Keycard go to the saveroom. move Rebecca into the saveroom via above corridor too
- before starting the brake sequence pick up all your goodies and ensure that Billy has 1 empty slot. something like that
- SAVE (left: x1)
- command Rebecca to stay behind, pickup Handgun Ammo under the shelf, proceed via corridor above to avoid zombies. in the next car you will see STARS zombie, just pass through him and don’t waste your ammo (let him damage you if anything, it is better to heal than waste ammo)
- solve the puzzle in “Rear Carriage”, same for Rebecca, move on
- don’t shoot zombies here, just pass through. also pickup your Ink Ribbon (if anything left)
- in “Main Hall” pick all goodies – x3 Ink Ribbon, Handgun Ammo, Green Herb, Red Herb
- then go into “Lecture Room” and pick x3 Ink Ribbon, Shotgun Ammo here
- leave Rebecca in “Main Hall”. your setup should look like this:
- SAVE (left: x6)
- first go into “Dining Room”. here you will find bunch of zombies. kill them all with Hunting Gun. you can avoid them and don’t kill till at all, but you will have tons of Shotgun Ammo anyway, so why bother?
- same for “Storage Room”. two zombies here. shoot them but don’t reload Hunting Gun. throw it away and pick Shotgun. pick Gas Tank and Black Statue
- return back to Rebecca. throw away unnecessary items, go to the “Living Room” and obtain Crank Handle
- proceed to “Art Corridor” and kill zombies here with Shotgun. go into “Main Library”, pickup Ink Ribbon and Microfilm A
- Rebecca should have at least x2 empty slots, heal her if necessary
- SAVE (left: x6)
- use Crank Handle to send Rebecca up. avoid Crawlers and pick Handgun Ammo in first room and Green Herb in next one with Crows (no Red Herb in Hard mode), continue further and unlock the door for Billy
- now Billy alone have to visit “Art Room” and kill Crawlers here with Shotgun, pick Grenade Launcher, Shotgun Ammo, White statue. throw that all in “Main Hall”
- finally visit “Bathroom” and collect goodies here – Red Herb (new for Hard Mode), Green Herb, Gas Tank, Bottle. Mimicry Marcus will attack you, but don’t mind and just exit
- before next segment your equipment should be like this:
- SAVE (left: x5)
- use Rebecca to get Fire Key, spawn the boss
- Centurion. for that battle you will use a Handgun. stay in that place and continually shoot at the boss until he is dead. you need ~45 bullets to kill him. one more time, don’t waste your shotgun ammo or GL’s rounds
walkthrough: From Zero to Hero (2)
- leave Rebecca in “Main Hall”
- SAVE (left: x4)
- proceed to “Kitchen” and pick Bottle and Lighter Fluid. more zombies here, kill them all
- you should have extra Gas Tank, create Molotovs
- proceed to “Assistant Director’s Office”. pick Handgun Ammo (there is twice as many on Hard mode, but no “Shotgun Ammo”). also pick Iron Needle
- then go to “Small Library”, kill zombies here, pick Grenades and Angel Wings (charge those Grenades into your GL for x12 in total)
- SAVE (left: x3)
- your setup at this moment:
- proceed to the “Clock Room” and solve clock puzzle. Crawlers here are harmless, don’t waste shotgun on them
- after that visit “Private Study Room” and pickup Microfilm B. zombies here are not so easy to dodge because of pricky camera angles. so consider to kill 1-2 of them, grab keyitem and quit (there is no Shotgun Ammo on Hard mode)
- your equipment
- travel to “Projection Room”, insert both Microfilms. there are x15 Handgun Ammo, but getting them tricky due to zombies. I don’t think it is worth it
- in corridor you will get ambushed by Mimicry Marcus, just avoid him.
- proceed with Rebecca into “Lecture Room” and solve a puzzle here
- SAVE (left: x2)
- with your good handy shotgun and handgun clean both “Private Corridor” and “Medicine Room”. collect all items in those areas – Napalm Grenades, Ink Ribbon, Black Wing, First-Aid Spray, x2 Blue Herbs). let Rebecca pick Green Chemical in “Medicine Room”
- open the basement. ensure that Billy has a good medicine for the quest further (yes, equip him with GL and Handgun):
- SAVE (left: x2)
- proceed to “Facility Basement B1”, pick Green Herb, Blue Herb, x3 Ink Ribbon. while moving here don’t kill spiders, just avoid their attacks. it is easier if you do it one character by one
- boost Rebecca, but don’t activate power generator right away. instead switch to Billy and move to that area (it will help you to avoid one Eliminator and save ammo/health)
- after that, solve power generator puzzle, switch to Billy and go to “Statue Room”
- here, use GL to kill all three Eliminators (don’t waste more than 9 rounds, finish them off with Handgun if you must to), save Rebecca. collect Ink Ribbon here
- solve Animal-Torches puzzle, visit “Bunk Room A”, collect Bottle and Unity Tablet
- SAVE (left: x5)
- proceed to Waterfall Room and pick Locker Key. yes, just accurately walk behind Crawlers and pick Locker Key. they will immediately attack you once you picked it (and might probably hit 1-2 times), but it is better than wasting ammo on them. just select a character with lower heath and sacrifice him a little (you will cure him after)
- go into Training Room, upgrade Handgun, pick Handgun Ammo, Shotgun Ammo, Magnum Ammo (x1, lol) and Acid Grenade. locate Billy near the button, but don’t press it. instead switch to Rebecca and…
- SAVE (left: x4)
- now the tricky part: Billy has to fight two Hunters. kill the first one by shooting 2 GL at him and then finish him off with Handgun. for the second one use the final GL’s round and continue with a Handgun. pick Water Key
- now, you need to get all the precious loot from the basement, including x2 Green Herb and Blue Herb from “Boiler Room” (no Red Herb). stash everything. kill all zombies that harass you
- after that go into “Monitor Room” in “Facility Basement”. here you will find Gas Tank, Handgun Ammo and Shotgun Ammo. there are two zombies, one on the floor (harmless) and another one is wandering around. dispatch the second one
- go and use Water Key (to ease item management)
- SAVE (left: x3)
- your setup at this moment (you should have x9 Molotovs by this moment)
- in a “Narrow Corridor A” you will find Mimicry Marcus that you have to kill – throw Molotovs at him. you can kill him with x3 Molotovs with right timing, or with x4 if you will throw them non-stop. the latter is better, you have plenty of Molotovs to spare
- after him done, go into Broadcast Room and pick Vise Handle (no need to fight Mimicry Marcus)
- now, proceed to “Piano Bar” and pick x8 Magnum Ammo, Bottle, Battery. before going further consider what loot you will collect in two next rooms and manage your equipment accordingly (so you don’t need to walk twice)
- in “Maintenance Room” you will find two zombies that are very unnecessary to kill, but if you must, then whatever, get Obedience Tablet and Shotgun Ammo
- then, travel to “Old Laboratory” and collect all loot here: FA Spray, Handgun Ammo, Red Herb, Bottle (there is no Green Herb in Hard Mode)
- after you exit “Old Laboratory” Mimicry Marcus will attack you, just avoid him
- then obtain Discipline Tablet outside, you have to know how to do it
- SAVE (left: x2)
- very important part – “Large Hall” is occupied with Crawlers, but they are easy to avoid. you need to travel to “Observatory Tower” and insert two Tablets (do not insert the third one! just drop it). use both characters to get all your precious loot and stash them in “Observatory Tower”. the idea is that after inserting the third Tablet you WILL NOT return to “Training Facility”, ever (you may not bring a spare Gas Tank with you)
- DON’T FORGET HOOKSHOT
- insert last Tablet
- equip Billy with Hookshot and Napalm GL (you need only x5 GL rounds for boss).
- proceed to the “Church”, then “Church Back Room”. here you will find “x3 Ink Ribbon”, “Shotgun Ammo” (no Napalm Grenades on Hard mode)
- SAVE (left: x4)
- GIANT BAT. very easy boss of you know how to fight him. first, get into the corner and prepare you GL with Napalm Grenades. Aim at boss and look carefully at his movements. when he will plane down to attack him – shoot from GL into his face. he be temporary stunned. continue shooting at him to effectively stunlock him. five rounds into his face and boss is down. the battle will take ~5 seconds if done right
- proceed further, collect Red Herb and go down into the “Reference Room”. move all your loot down here, consider it to be your new base for a while
walkthrough: From Zero to Hero (3)
- in “Reference Room” pick Ink Ribbon
- your setup at this moment should be (plus x9 Magnum Ammo, x6 Acid Grenades in stash)
- SAVE (left: x4)
- send Billy above, pick Leech Capsule, don’t fight Mimicry Marcus – you will never return back into that room. don’t pick anything else in that room – you have plenty of Molotovs already
- drop Hookshot in “Corridor”, press the button to raise the wall for Rebecca
- proceed to “Operating Room”, send Leech Capsule to Rebecca. two zombies here, kill them. pickup FA Spray. move to “Corridor”, don’t stay in “Operating Room” (enemies will spawn here). after that quickly switch to Rebecca because one zombie will be spawned near her
- SAVE (left: x3)
- as Rebecca exit the “Reference Room” and kill Mimicry Marcus with Molotovs (as usual x4 throws). collect Green Herb and Red Herb. look for Red Chemical. combine it with Green Chemical you have, then with Leech Capsule. use Blue Leech to unlock the door
- after all that pick Red Chemical one more time
- in “Marcus’s Room” pick Handgun Ammo and Input Regulator Coil. also let Rebecca to read some books. she is so cute <3
- in “Marcus’s Private Room” pick Green Leech and kill the zombie (one is lying on the floor and harmless). send Green Leech to Billy
- SAVE (left: x2)
- as Billy go into “Operating Room” and pick Green Leech
- proceed into the “Morgue” pick Sterilizing Agent (no Handgun Ammo on Hard). two zombies: one is playing dead on the floor, a second one is crawling around. both are easy to avoid
- travel to “Leech Laboratory” and use Sterilizing Agent (room has no Shotgun Ammo). three zombies here, you can avoid all three, but it is more satisfying to kill them all. pick Breeding Room Key and open “Breeding Room”, but before entering it…
- SAVE (left: x1)
- …inside “Breeding Room” there will be two hunters. fight them or avoid them – whatever you want. pick Dial. send it to Rebecca
- use Dial to open the door, proceed to “Machine Room”, pick Output Regulator Coil
- as Billy pick Hookshot and meet with Rebecca. collect all goodies in the room: x3 Ink Ribbon, x3 Molotovs, Shotgun Ammo
- use any character with Hookshot and insert Output Regulator Coil and Input Regulator Coil
- before proceeding forward, ensure that your characters have the following equipment:
- SAVE (left: x3)
- go to the “Cable Car” and get separated from Billy. Mimicry Marcus will attack you, kill him off with Molotovs. restart generator, get into “Cable Car” and move to the Factory. inside “Cable Car” you can find Magnum, but don’t pick it yet
- on the “Platform” there are x2 Green Herb. heal yourself if necessary. throw off Magnum Ammo here. bring all your goodies here
- in “Turntable Control Room” pick Ink Ribbon,FA Spray (hidden on the shelf), and Handgun Ammo (no Grenades on Hard), have at least x1 empty slot for the next part
- SAVE (left: x3)
- your equipment at this moment
- proceed to “Turntable Monitor Room”, pick a Up Key. two hunters will attack, avoid them and don’t engage in fight (even if they damage you that’s all alright, it is better than wasting ammo and time)
- SAVE (left: x2, yeah spamming saves, because you have plenty of Ink Ribbons)
- follow the straightforward path until the boss
- PROTO-TYRANT. you are going to fight Proto-Tyrant with your bare Handgun, seems impossible? guess what, it is very easy. Tyrant has a blind zone near his left hand. when he is about to leap on you, quickly run left to avoid all damage, take a distance and repeat. Proto-Tyrant will die off with ~40 shots (it is way better than wasting x9 Magnum shots). bring healing items with you and cure yourself if something go wrong. with enough practice you can execute that strategy flawlessly
- a visual demonstration of that method (you don’t need that perfect with timing; shooting 7-8 between each leaps is enough)
- by this point of the game you should have enough ammo to kill everyone on Treatment Plant twice, and still have enough ammo to kill three incoming bosses – so just laid lead on everyone (preferably with Shotgun)
- solve the puzzle in Control Room, pick all the goodies in both above and below levels: x3 Molotovs, Green Herb Red Herb, Handgun Ammo, Ink Ribbon. there are three zombies wandering around, kill them all
- SAVE (left: x4)
- your current setup (yes, you HAVE to bring Gas Tank and Molotovs with you):
- Mimicry Marcus waits for you in “L Corridor”. don’t fight him yet, but instead proceed in “Rec Room”
- in “Rec Room” there will a zombie, kill him. pick Bottle, create Molotovs. now quit that room back to “L Corridor” and kill Mimicry Marcus with x4 Molotovs. this is the last Mimicry Marcus in the game, so you can forget about all Molotovs, Empty bottles and Gas Tanks
- stash all your equipment in “Rec Room”
- move into “Maintenance Area” (no Green Herb and Red Herb here), be careful of “Lurker”, he may popup from the water and try to insta-kill you. just move asap into the next area
- in Water Pool there are Shotgun Ammo. if you don’t have space, then don’t mind them Billy will pickup them shortly
- reunite with Billy in “Dumping Area”. be careful Lurker may attack you here. go back and pick Shotgun Ammo in Water Pool if you didn’t already. solve the puzzle and obtain Handle
- back to “Rec Room”. in “L Corridor” new zombies are spawned. kill them all
- in “Generator Room” six zombies are wandering around kill them with Billy’s Shotgun. also pick Handgun Ammo
- SAVE (left: x3)
- now a tricky part. you have to revisit one place. equip your characters like that:
- visit “Maintenance Shaft” on Factory and kill a Hunter here. pick up Magnum Ammo, Handgun Ammo, Green Herb, Red Herb
- roam all your stashes and bring everything into “Rec Room” (including Magnum Ammo and Magnum you dropped on “Platform”)
- SAVE (left: x2)
walkthrough: From Zero to Hero (4)
- proceed to “B6 Walkway”, kill two hunters here (use Shotgun), better leave Rebecca behind until sector is clear
- in “Lodgings” you will find Handgun Ammo, x3 Ink Ribbon, Napalm Grenades, FA Spray, Green Herb, Red Herb (too much loot, not enough room). don’t save yet
- go to “Cargo Control Room” (be careful, Lurker may attack you in a walkway before), kill three zombies here, either with Shotgun. collect Shotgun Ammo
- now equip Billy like this
- SAVE (left: x4)
- leave Rebecca in “Cargo Control Room” while you go down to fight the boss
- PROTO-TYRANT. that fight is a bit different from the first time due to lack of room for maneuver. so you have to kill him fast. shoot x10 Magnum Ammo and finish him off with 7-8 Handgun Ammo. don’t mind the damage that much: you have at least Green-Red and FA Spray from “Lodgings”, plus you will get x2 Green Herbs in a moment – so just tank him off
- after killing Proto-Tyrant, as Rebecca, go collect x2 Green Herbs in “Dam” (Lurkers will not attack until you close the dam, so don’t worry)
- grab Motherboard, activate Gondola. your characters’ inventory should be like that:
- SAVE (left: x3)
- the next section is straightforward and you should be aware of what to do. as Rebecca close the dam, pickup Acid Grenades, kill Crawler, unlock all the doors. as Billy travel the dam (Lurker always attacks here, you can’t outrun him), kill two zombies in “Engine Room”, collect “Shotgun Ammo” and “Handgun Ammo”
- reunite with Rebecca, obtain the Hi-Power Battery. Crawlers will not attack you if stand here
- obtain the final Keycard together. unlock the respective door. in the final corridor (“Fenced Area”) pick Magnum Ammo, but don’t open the door yet. go back to your stash (some zombies may reappear) and bring them closer to the final door. and ensure that your characters have the following:
- Set Rebecca’s AI to constantly shoot from Handgun, while your will control Billy with Magnum
- SAVE (left: x2)
- a fun trick – you don’t need have both characters near
- LEECH QUEEN #1. move Rebecca at safe distance and shoot the boss with Billy. Rebecca will assist you with a Handgun. don’t waste all your Magnum, you still have a second fight after it. shoot ~14 times, after that switch to Rebecca and continue attacking from a safe distance with Handgun. there is a little trick that may help you to win that fight, but requires a bit of timing. after you have switched to Rebecca, unequip any weapons from Billy, and give him a command to act solo. now position Billy between Leech Queen and Rebecca. if you done it right then Leech Queen will try to attack Billy and the latter will dodge her. Billy’s AI mostly is trying to run in circle from Leech Queen, so you have too. Just stay behind Billy and shoot the boss from Handgun, move with them along the circle and avoid Leech Queen’s attacks by making Billy kite/aggro her. of course it doesn’t work perfectly and he will get hit sometimes – so keep an eye on him and heal accordingly. after 14 Magnum Rounds it takes just x30 Handgun more to finish that boss off (and no there are no Magnum Ammo in that room)
- in “Storage” you will find everything you need to replenish your resources: Ink Ribbon, Handgun Ammo, Shotgun Ammo, Grenades, FA Spray, Green Herb, Red Herb
- even if Rebecca has a FINE health – still heal her up
- manage your equipment in the following way before proceeding to the final battle:
- SAVE (left: x4, seriously what shall we do with x4 more saves? we have saved like crazy, but we still have Ink Ribbons to use)
- LEECH QUEEN #2. you should have x10+ Magnum Ammo, x25 GL rounds, x100+ Handgun Ammo. I really would like to know how can one lose that battle with a such loadout? no tactics here – just control both your characters to fallback into that area (right behind you) and continually attack the boss. Billy should start with Napalm GL, then switch to acid GL, then to regular one (but boss will be dead way before the third one). Rebecca helps you with Magnum
- LEECH QUEEN #3. now things are getting more interesting. right off the bat, take some Rebecca’s items, like that
- go away at some safe distance and start using any weapons you want to take boss’s attention and agro her away from Rebecca. that part is a bit RNG-based, because Rebecca’s path may be right through the boss itself and there is nothing you can do about it by just staring in an amusement how Rebecca is hitting her head into boss’s body and getting hit by her acid over and over again
- you can heal Rebecca during that segment, you just need to switch to her via inventory and use healing items directly as her
- that part is difficult only because of Rebecca’s finicky AI. if you managed to get through it, then enjoy FMV, your rank and achievement at the end:
