Check your six. Stay aware of things that are behind you. It is natural for you to want to look forward in a moving car, as a result, many times I’ve seen my window man get shot by the enemies that have sneaked upon us from behind with a fast car. To be honest, I have died the same way too many times. Looking back and learning from the experience is a thing you have to learn to do in APB.

What I think you should do if you are as a single passenger in a car (hanging out or not) is to look 2-3 seconds forward, then peek behind. When in an intersection, try to check both left and right. So the driver can concentrate on traffic and you can notify him of incoming threats.

If you see enemies, shoot at the vehicle as much as possible. If there are enemies hanging out the window of the pursuing vehicle, then try to kill them first.

If there are two (or more) passengers in a car, here is what I think should work the best.

The one who sits in front, does the same as the single passenger. Look forward, peek behind. The one who sits in the back does the same in reverse order. Look back, peek forward. If you are unsure what to do, look at your team-mates heads, which way are they looking? Then you can check the opposite direction.

Peeking forward for the backseat passenger is necessary to keep up the situational awareness. I’ve sat in the back of the car many times and kept staring back so intensivly that I didn’t notice that we had already arrived at the objective. I had no clue what was going on around me.

There are few things to avoid while hanging out of the car window.

• Shooting close range or point blank targets over the car you’re in. You’ll only harm your own car. I’ve managed to blow up the car I was in couple of times. It’s embarrassing. Mid or long range targets are fine.
  
• Shooting over the car when your team mates are hanging out of the window, I’ve killed a few team-mates that way and vice versa. Keep your own side of the car clean.
  
• Shooting for no reason, it can be distracting to the driver.
  
• Getting out of the car right after a collision. Of course if the car is upside down or smoking or otherwise not moving, you abandon it. But I find it very frustrating to see my team mates flee and go find another transport right after the first spin. Swallow your pride and stay in the car. Nine times out of ten you’ll be at the objective quicker and at the same time have some friends by your side.
  
• You should also be careful when reloading while leaning out. While reloading, you cannot go back into the car until you finish. By extension, this also means you should avoid emptying your entire mag during a fight while leaning. (All credits go to 'Shō-zō-nü' Elite Beat Agent for this one tip)

Things you can try, but will propably fail.

• Shoot ahead to scare pedestrians away.
  
• When coming to an intersection, shoot vehicles coming from the left or right to stop the crossing traffic and keep the way open for your driver. Don’t stop cars in the middle of the crossroads.
  
• Stop NPC cars in the middle of the intersections behind you to cause traffic jams and slow down the opponents following you.

Finally, drivers, please wait until your team-mates are in the car. Don’t waste everybody’s time by stepping on it as soon as the door opens. Give your team-mates plenty of time to get in, otherwise the car will move forward and they will not be in the car.

Also in this kind of situation please wait for a moment. You died, respawned and you run to the closest car to get back to the battle as soon as possible. When you get to the car, look around quickly: are there any team-mates trying to get in the same car? Wait for them!

It is sad to see you drive away, when I only need to run 3 meters to run to get in the same car, and then see you name coming up to the upper right corner of the screen when someone killed you.
At least we could have died together. With style.
