Controller Guide for Pillars of Eternity

Due to some personal circumstances I've recently been basically stuck to gaming on the couch with nVidia Shield to stream my games to the tv from my pc. As such I've sunk a good chunk of my time in PoE using a controller and I'm here to tell you it plays better than expected, listed support or not. It's by no means as efficient as a keyboard and mouse, but if you give yourself the time to get used to it and the button layout, then prepare to sit back and get comfortable while exploring Eora!

So here it is... the only thing that matters in this here basic ass guide: the button layout. As I said earlier, I use a Shield controller. They have a similar scheme as an XBox controller. I'm sure it's easy to figure out what does what with a Steam controller or PS controller based on this guide.

Right trigger = Left mouse click

Right bumper = Toggle Scouting mode

Left trigger = Right mouse click. Can also be used to quickly close item description windows rather than clicking the X.

Left bumper = Show lootables in the area (works like Tab). Also scrolls thru party members while in the Inventory screen.

Left thumb stick = Moves the screen. This is easier than dragging the pointer to the sides of the screen with the other thumbstick.

Right thumbstick = Moves mouse pointer.

B = Pause action.

Y = Select all party members.

A = Enter/select/Spacebar (mainly only works on dialogue options which can also be selected with the pointer of course). Useful for quickly continuing through dialogue.

X = Cycle thru party members

The right and up arrow buttons on the D-pad can also be used to scroll thru a characters abilities but I tend to just use the pointer most of the time.

The down and left arrows I think you can actually bind to abilities.

Select button opens Inventory and Start button opens up the main menu.

Well that's all. I hope this simple guide helps someone. As I said, this game works just fine on a controller. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Now cozy up on the couch and get adventuring!
