Overview
An in depth look at the Guardians of Smite. Hopefully this guide will help you become a better guardian player.
Guardian Overview
Yes, the time has come to address the Guardians. The role that most people try to avoid playing for some reason. Honestly though, the Guardians of smite are one of the most crucial roles to have on any team. If you don’t have a guardian, how are you going to get out of rough situations, get up when knocked down (khepri’s job), or successfully get that pentakill? Guardians are one of the most necessary roles to have in a smite game so in this guide I will give you some tips on how to become a better guardian.

Gameplay Style
Every Guardian in Smite has their own individual play style just like any other class. They are essential to a winning team as they can provide hard CC or amazing peel for a team. Here are a list of the different play styles of each guardian:
Tanks:
Tanks are normally the gods that can stay for an extended period of time in a team fight and provide their team with a pletora of different buffs.
- Artio

These gods are one’s who give their team amazing multikill potential. They benifit from having gods like Scylla or Ra who can get multiple kills off of how the setup is made.

- Ymir
How to know if you would be a good Guardian
For some reason, Guardians are the least favorite role to play for most people (not all). However, they are extremely needed in any team to perform tasks that warriors or even tanky mages can’t. Other roles depend on guardians to help protect them from danger. They are the most noble role as they sacrafice kills for the good of the team for the most part. Here are some requirements you will probably want to know of to become a better guardian:
- You must sacrafice most kills to give your hunter or mage an upper hand for late game.
- Aura items are very important to your team as they can push the whole team fight in your favor.
- Map Awareness is extremely important. You need to understand when your team needs help and where to best position yourself just like any other role. For the most part, it will be your duty to buy wards for your team so you can anticipate ganks from the enemy team.
- You will need to quickly switch targets so that your team can immediately kill different targets.
As I have said before, in this series I like to show the work of Raynday as he gives a basic overview of how to be better at specific roles. Make sure to subscribe to him as he works really hard to improve the Smite community.
Lethal Tips
Here are a few tips to becoming a better guardian and all around supportive player:
- If you are playing guardian, make sure to pick one who complements your team and counters the enemy’s.
- Make sure to understand when a team fight is going on and be the key source of CC and setups for your team to get the kills.
- Guardians don’t need to horde gold so if you are in lane, let your partners get the last hit gold on minions.
- Map awareness is key. Make sure you always know what’s going on and if you don’t, make educated guesses that will benifit the team.
- Be supportive. Always know how to help your team in any way. Whether you are sparing some gold for your hunter or buying aura items to help your whole team out, make sure you do what you can to support your team.
If you follow these simple steps, you can become an effective support and an even better teammate. Feel free to comment down below on how I can make these guides more helpful in any way.
