Farming 101

_____I believe when you start your map ,your first choice to produce food for your little town is our good ol' Gathering hut(s). 1 good located Gathering hut can lifts your worry from Starvation for years to come ,and that's not wrong.

However !!
_____Some ,if not most of you ,neglect to build Crop Fields and Orchards in your first Spring.
Of course ,this is in case you start with seeds for these wondrous food factories. Not in a harsh difficulty setting.
_____You simply threw away tons of food you can make before your first Winter. Such wastefulness.
I'm going to explain why you should work on few of them as early as possible.

_____AFTER YOU SOW ,YOU'RE NOT NEEDED !!
_____YES !! JUST LEAVE THEM BE !!
Dismiss all of your farmer from crop fields after you see them sow seed on the fields.
Dismiss all of your farmer from orchards after you see them finish planting saplings.
Or just turn them off.

_____Let your food grow on their own.
_____Reassign your farmers when it's time to harvest !!
You see ,having farmer or not ,doesn't affect the yield even a bit. When you're waiting for your food to grow ,you can assign your now-free farmer to do other tasks.
Just remember to get them back when it must be harvested.

_____What happened in the pictures?
I make fruit orchards. Assign farmers to them ,but leave 1 orchard abandoned after saplings had been planted.

_____Result
With or Without farmer ,they grow at the same rate ,give us the same yield.

_____Unlike Gathering Huts.
Crop fields and Orchards require ,other than seeds ,absolutely 0 resource to create.

_____Especially ,
Crop fields ,you can just work on them at Early Spring then reassign farmer back during Autumn.
Orchards still need years to grow ,but it's good to start young!!
Isn't that the reason you should grow them as soon as possible?
