Gameplay & Battlegrounds … *SMITE* beginners guide

Overview

*SMITE* beginners Guide to … Gameplay & Battlegrounds.First of all, – let me say, – “Don´t worry”!There´re over 100 different characters (`Gods´) and about 7-10 maps (`Battlegrounds´) and 100´s of items to purchase during battles that makes your `God´ stronger. It might seem confusing in the beginning, but (like I said:) “Don´t worry”, – you´ll soon get the hang of it, – and you DON´T start off with all, – only a selection of `Gods´ to begin with and you´ll be WELL guided on your way.https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2419338553In this guide you´ll find: Basic Controls Setting Item Purchasing Some Battleground InfoPLZ rate this review useful (if you agree, of course), – and comment or ask if there´s anything you wish to share in regards to it.You might also want to see my *SMITE* beginners guide to … : My official *SMITE* review Teamwork & Communication InGame-Currency & Purchases Tips & Tricks for a Good Startup The Emote Trick

Basic Controls

Movement: Arrow-keys and/or W, S, A and D-buttons.
Attacking: Left mouse-button
(Can be customized, – once you discover what settings suit your game-style best).

Every `God´ has 5 unique abilities, 4 of them can be activated by you. One is a `Passive´ ability because YOU can´t activate it, – it´s already active throughout the battle. You also have one called an `Ultimate´. This is your biggest, most powerful ability and can be a gamechanger if used wisely. These abilities often have possible combo´s which is best learnt by just playing the `Gods´ and discovering it for yourself. It all depends on YOUR game-style. You might be the type who uses a `Dash´-ability to jumpattack your enemy, – or the type who keeps the `Dash´ ready for a quick getaway if things get hot.
It all depends on how YOU play it.

(There´s a lot of help in the `Learning´-menu which has an icon that looks like a college-hat).

I suggest you set the control-keys for casting abilities a bit different than default (buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the keyboard). I suggest moving them a bit closer to your (W, S, A, D) movement-keys, making it Q, 2, E and R. It works well for me. You start off with `training´ and `Co-Op´ battles in the beginning and will quickly get your hand/fingers accustomed to the keys. You´ll discover that moving the keys a bit closer together may give you that split-second reaction you need to `UP´ your game. Try it out, I think you´ll agree. You´ll play single for a while before you actually start playing vs other players (PvP) so you have time to test it.

I suggest you start your PvP-games in the `Arena´ and start out with a ranged `God´ (Hunter or Mage) so you can keep a distance for a quick escape if a foe approaches. Real players don´t play like the computer-generated opponents (`Bots´) you´ll encounter during training.
They are more slick and may even have a few tricks up their sleeve.

Remember: It´s better NOT to die, than it is to try and slay a lot and then die in the process. And also: During a battle you can always press `Enter´ and write a message to your whole team. Tell them that you´re a beginner or need help if it gets crazy hard for you, – it ALWAYS helps.

Setting Item Purchasing

A good idea:

Spend time (between battles) to see what items other players use for the `Gods´ you use, and activate the `Auto-Purchase´-function (press `ESC´ and choose `GUIDES´ in the menu) so your `God´ automatically buys your pre-selected items when he returns to the base (`The Fountain´) during battles. Then you don´t have to remember all the items for physical/magical `Gods´, finding them in the shop-menu, remembering what order to buy them in, or more. Just till you get the hang of it. Later on you might want to customize your items DURING the battles specifically to counter your opponents items or abilities, – and that just means you´ve evolved your gameplay to a higher level. That´s A Good Thing!

Some Battleground Info

Different battlegrounds have different objectives. The `Arena´ is based on generating `tickets´ by killing players and/or getting smaller soldiers (`Minions´) to survive a walkdown from your end of the battleground to enter an enemy-`Portal´ in their end. A countdown of `tickets´ are made for each minion that enters their portal and each kill your team makes. You are 5 players vs 5 players (5v5). Get their `tickets´ down to zero before your team reaches zero, and you win the game. Simple.

Other battlegrounds have more or less complicated objectives, towers, phoenix’s, Titans and power-up-buffs, – but every battleground has one main thing in common:
Slay all you can, – but DON´T get slain yourself.

Battlegrounds have structures and setups in common but can have different objectives. You´ll soon understand the fundamentals of it. Minions walk from end to end, enemy towers shoots at you, a `Phoenix´ is a bird (like a living tower) that revives itself after a few minutes and the Titan is your KING that must be protected. If your Titan is slain, you lose the battle, – if you slay your opponents Titan, – you stand victorious!

A Quick N´Short introduction to a few Battlegrounds:

`Arena´ is (as mentioned above) all about `ticket´-countdown by team-kills and minions in a portal. Other battlegrounds have a Titan as primary target. They have streets (called `Lanes´) with shooting towers, a `Phoenix´ at the end of each `Lane´ and a Titan at the teambase (called a `Fountain´) where the team can heal up and buy items. Most battlegrounds have (so called) `Buff´-camps where you can slay a creature and for a few minutes gain a power-boost or speed-boost (or other) for your `God´. Some of these `Buff´-camps are found in jungles that are on some of the battlegrounds.

The battlegrounds called `Joust´ and `Assault´ are `One-Laners´.
One `Lane´, minions, two towers, a Phoenix and a Titan. `Joust´ is 3v3 and `Assault´ is a 5v5 battle with special rules. (Let´s just say: `Assault´ is not for beginners. You DON´T get to CHOOSE your own `God´, you´re given one at random, it has no `Buff´-camps and you can´t buy items or heal up in the `Fountain´. You can´t play this gamemode, before you obtain a certain level and a certain amount of `Gods´).

`Clash´ is a 2-`Lane´ 5v5 battleground, two towers in each `Lane´ with minions, two `Phoenixs´ and a Titan. (Kill the Titan = WIN!)

`Siege´ is also a 2-`Lane´ battleground, 4v4 battleground with a very different setup. It has minions and two towers in each `Lane´, two Phoenixes and a Titan. It also has a big junglearea between the `Lanes´ and some pretty special objectives and elements to it.

`Conquest´ is the biggest battleground. A 3-`Lane´ 5v5 battleground with two jungleareas between the `Lanes´, two towers in each `Lane´, minions, 3 phoenixes and a Titan. It has many different `Buff´-camps and team-objectives and NOT recommended for beginners. First you need to know the map, the jungle and the objectives to truly master it. This one is all about teamwork.

All in all, – there´s a battleground for every mood, mind and skill. And I haven´t even mentioned them all.

My advice: Start small, learn a few `Gods´ and a few battlegrounds, before venturing into bigger and more complicated ones, – and remember: “Don´t worry”, – you´ll get the hang of it while discovering your preferred game-style and having lots of fun. I promise!
