Genghis Khan Mongolia Guide for Sid Meier's Civilization V

Genghis Khan Mongolia Guide

Overview

Are you ready for conquest? Are you ready to amass a horde of horsemen? Then Mongolia is the Civ for you. Mongolia is the most common conquering Civ in the game. Their ability Mongol Terror allows city states and cities themselves to be easily conquered by your military, giving your units 30% combat strength and all mounted units have +1 movement. With 2 unique cavalry units, the Khan and the Keshik, Mongolia is ready to conquer all who oppose. This guide will tell you how to expand, conquer, and play as Mongolia.

Mongolian Misconceptions

Let’s face it, all Civs have misconceptions. For Mongolia, most players like bonas attack against cities and very good military units. This makes Mongolia a very dangerous Civ and any player would likely go for a domination victory. Domination of your foes is recommended but you dont want to knock out most of the Civs or if they all declare war on you, you are in big trouble(Unless you have a large military) The way I see Mongolia, conquer as you please, but dont get carried away with it.

Mongolia is a good Civ, ready to take on any situation that comes along. This guide will show you how to expand, conquer, and play as Mongolia. Dont fall for misconceptions!

Khan Rising

Starting out is easy but a run down wont hurt. Since the Mongols have the most superior cavarly units in thre game, you might want to choose a map that has mosty plains. After you found your first city, start to research Animal Husbandtry, to reveal horses on your map and to pump out cavarly units in early game.

Focusing on a strong military is first and should be your top priority. Getting cavalry units early on is a great way to start, but make sure you have enough gold to support you large military. When it comes to attacking cities, Mongolias ability, Mongol Terror, kicks in. This ability gives 30% combat strength against cities and also gives your mounted units +1 movement. This allows your mounted units to attack more than once or move away quickly to avoid damage.

Mongolia has 2 unique units, the Khan and the Keshik. These 2 powerful cavalry units make Mongolia a force to be feared. Mongolia’s cavarly is superior to all other cavalry units in the game. No Civ can withstand the Mongol cavalry.

Not only should a strong military be focused on but you should plan on getting Mongolia unique unit the Khan, which replaces Great Generals. The Khan replaces the Great General. Unlike the Great General, the Khan can heal nearby units giving them +15 Health per turn. Any military unit that is nearby can only be healed within 2 tiles of the Khan. Also the Khan gives a combat bonas against cities. Not only does Mongol Terror give +30% combat bonas against cities, the Khan gives an extra +15% combat bonas for all land units that are nearby. This gives your unit +45% combat bonas against cities, thus allowing your military to conquer quickly.

The other unique unit that Mongolia possess is the Keshik. The Keshik replaces the Knight. Although this unit has a strong ranged attack, it cant melee and has no defensive terrain bonus. The tech the is required to build this unit is Chivalry, your city must have horses and you must have researched Chivarly. This unit can also move after attacking which can allow you to use this unit for hit-and-run tactics. Even though this unit is weaker compared to other cavalry units, the Keshik can gain experice 50% faster than other cavarly units, allowing you to give this unit promotions to make it stronger.

As for conquering cities, you dont want to use Keshiks when attacking cities. Only use Keshiks for attacking units and keep your Khans close to your military units so that they can heal when during a seige of a city. Do not forget to research Mathematics, which allows the building of the Courthouse. The Courthouse reduces unhappiness in your newly occupied cities.

Culture I guess, is not big for Mongolia, but you might want to focus on getting cultre. I recommend going down either Tradition or Honor. Honor gives bonas culture for every barbarian killed. Tradtion allows faster border expansion and growth in your capital.

Now as Mongolia, you can conquer as you please. Like I said before dont get carried away with conquering or you might end up in a world war.
