How to fix performance issues [May 2017]

Overview

Do you experience performance issues, even though your specs should be more than enough to run the game?I have modified some config files to fix these issues, and i’m releasing the result here, hoping that i can help some people with it.

The following link includes a file called “DefaultScalability.zip“.

After downloading, unpack the file, and move “DefaultScalability.ini” to ‘Guardians of Orion/Orion/Config‘ and overwrite the already existing file.

The file scales down effects that are a great impact on performance. This does not ruin the graphics, it will look almost the same.

It also fixes the render distance setting, meaning that a low render distance setting will now render less objects than a high one. This can be used to improve the performance on maps with a lot of environmental objects like grass.

I recently discovered that the config i provided completely removed the flame thrower animation and other effects from the game. I fixed this with a new file, however the best performance is still granted with the old config. You can choose which file to use, if you experience problems.
