Overview
Greetings Fellow Pirates & Wenches.I Represent The Pirate Council Of Economic Advisors & Board of Liquidators. I am here today to advise you on the best ways to make COIN!. I will start with the basics of what you should be trading & what not to do as a beginner to make the most coin & this a pleasurable experience where you can freely do what you like.So if this guide helps you please remember to rate it up as a friendly gesture for the hard work I put into it.I would like to thank everyone who has visited my guide & found it helpful & made it one the top guides for the game. I hope to continue serving you by bringing updated information in the guide for however long it last..
Preamble & Basics
You need to establish your self first before doing anything in game outside of trading. You must ask your self do I have enough coin to replace a ship & crew for making bad choices such as jumping right into fighting a ship x times my size & power. NO! You do not so stop your belly aching about not being able to kill ships being killed make coin or this being PTW when YOU! Make bad decisions as a Pirate & do not have the appropriate ship for the fight. You alone are to blame when you are unable to make coin or lose your ship when YOU! Make poor choices as a pirate. You do not need to spend real money on the game to win.
You will need to stay with a smaller ship for some time to avoid cost as you are not ready for a ship bigger then what you start out with. You must have at minimum 100k coin to afford to operate a 1st Rate by it self. You will need another 200k to have support ships to make it worth while & all 3 will need to be fully upgraded.
Establishment & Skills
You need to build up your base first to produce goods & coin. You will need to build the warehouse first if one does not exist already to store all your goods. You will then need to build the Distillery, Tavern & Store only & upgrade them to the Max level for maximum profit. You need to produce rum & only rum since that is primarily the number one product desired everywhere & is the most expensive profit wise that you can make for free in mass quantities. You only need to build a dock after your established to dismantle or build better ships once you have the blue prints for them’ if you do not capture them. Ok now that they have added the merchant guild you can now build & upgrade to max level the rest of the available buildings & set the guild to sell everything.
Once you have established your self & have sufficient coin’ You will need to pick the right skills. You will want to start by picking the financial skills Merchant, Trader & Haggler first over all other skills to maximize your coin income at the start. You will then want to take the smuggler skill to get access to smuggling missions & after that take the skills Mayor, Governor & Duke. You can now upgrade your town buildings to level 6.
CONGRATULATIONS! CAPTAIN! You are now on your way to making coin & being a successful pirate.
Trading, Smuggling & Selling Goods.
You will need to operate out of ports closest to you that primarily have the fallowing goods.
1.Tobacco x 157 = 4396 coin @ 28 coin per unit x1 ship,
2. Rum x 209 = 3762 coin @ 18 coin per unit x1 ship,
3. Oil x 209 = 3344 coin @ 16 coin per unit x1 ship,
4. Spices x 125 = 3250 coin @ 26 coin per unit x1 ship,
5.Gunpowder x 209 = 3135 coin @ 15 coin per unit x1 ship,
Smuggling to towns or ports Values.
1.Tobacco x 157 = 18840 coin @ 120 coin per unit x1 ship, x2 = 37680, x3 = 56520, x4 = 75360
2. Rum x 209 = 16302 coin @ 78 coin per unit x1 ship, x2 32604, x3 = 48906, x4 = 65208
3. Oil x 209 = 15048 @ 72 coin per unit x1 ship, x2 = 30096, x3 = 45144, x4 = 60192
4. Gunpowder x 209 = 14421 @ 69 coin per unit x1 ship, x2 = 28842, x3 = 43263, x4 = 57684
5. Spice x 125 = 14250 @ 114 coin per unit x1 ship, x2 = 28500, x3 = 42750, x4 = 57000
6. Sugar x 125 = 11250 @ 90 coin per unit x1 ship, x2 = 22500, x3 = 33750, x4 = 45000
Smuggling can bring in large quantities of coin once you reach 200% in skill’ However for it to be worth while’ You will need a Flute to transport large quantities of goods to maximize your profit as it has the largest cargo hold of any ship in game once fully upgraded’ A total of 6299 cargo space. You will make the most coin smuggling to towns if you use 4 flutes fully loaded with a single type cargo. You must have that cargo type on your ship or you will fail & lose reputation. Smuggling missions are random spawns in towns & open world. You will want to look for them on the open world map or in town. Smuggling missions can bring 10k – 15k with open world smugglers & 45k to 75k smuggling to towns. You will need the smuggling perk as previously mentioned in the Establishment & Skills section to get the smuggling missions.
You will want to take advantage of smuggling & trading by doing the fallowing.
1. Move your cargo ships to a 4 star port & leave them docked.
2. Set the crew levels of your cargo fleet with minimal crew to sail.
3. Have another ship at a different port, set up for sailing the seas.
4. Find a port with an item you want to fill your cargo ships up with, that is green.
5. Send your single ship to that port.
6. Open the Cargo Shop, then close it. This will change all ports you have ships at to the same prices as this port. You can use your closest pirate base to reset cargo afterwards.
7. Switch ports to where the cargo ship fleet is.
8. Buy up all of the item you wanted.
9. Switch ports to the single ship or pirate base which ever is closest.
10. Repeat steps 6 through 9, until all cargo ships are full.
11. When all ships are full, send your single ship to a port where the items you bought are red.
12. Open the cargo shop to the change prices, of all ports you have ships at, to red.
13. Switch to the port with your cargo fleet.
14. Sell all the cargo in your ships for lots of COIN! or wait for a smuggling mission for that item for even more coin.
You will want to reset to the port you departed from until it spawns a large ship preferably a flute to sell the maximum amount of cargo the smuggler can hold as they are limited to cargo space just as you are’ So you want them to be in the biggest ship possible. You can only trade one ship of cargo to the smugglers.
You will notice that once you start trading with a faction you will gain reputation with that faction’ as you gain reputation you will gain better prices buying & selling & this is where the previously mentioned skills come in handy to get you the best prices possible.

Capturing & Dismanteling Ships.
You will often see npc or abandoned ships on the open seas that you may want to capture. You will need the skills Corsair, Cutthroat, Swordmaster & a ship of appropriate size & crew. You will need the fallowing ammo grapeshot to assist in taking the ship so that you can reduce its crew to a point that its boarding party is so small that your boarding party can easily take the ship & not lose the one you are capturing the ship with by having to few crew to operate both ships. You can use rum to better your odds of capturing the ship as this will increase boarding party efficiency. You will want to bring the hull down to about 50% to 75% to make the grape shot more efficient.
You can also use chainshot ammo to stop or slow a ship dead in its tracks by damaging or destroying its sails to also make this easier.
You will want to fire one salvo of grapeshot from your fore guns into abandoned ships you come across to make them go neutral or white flag as some ships will have pirates on them or rats which will give you the plague. You can now sell, dismantle or rebuild the ship for use once captured at your port or any other port. You can only dismantle ships at your ports which will bring more money then selling them.
Pirate Attacks
You will notice once you begin to establish your self & start transporting goods you will be faced with attacks from the pirate confederacy. You will want to reset to the port you just departed from & select open world to avoid this attack & then select the port you want to sell your goods at.
Raiding Ports
You can raid ports for 5k coin & if you join a faction some missions will ask you to do so’ However in doing so you lose all standing with that faction & will be considered a pirate & unable to enter their ports anywhere. You will need to buy a letter of parole in the shop for 2k coin after doing so to restore your standing with that faction to enter their towns/ports again if you ever want to make coin from there. I highly advise against attacking towns as a means to make coin as it is inefficient & costly to your self to do so.
Blue prints & Treasure Maps
You will notice when sailing through out the word you will come across ship wrecks only on the coast that you can search & survivors you can rescue anywhere on the open sea. You will receive blue prints for ships searching wrecks & have a chance to get treasure maps from both when searched or rescued. You can only have one map at a time.
Ship & Fleet Control + Barrel Combat
You will find in the game settings ship turning, accelerometer & steering wheel. You will want to leave this unchecked if you wish to use the W+S keys to raise lower sails & A+D to turn the ship. You will want to check this if you wish to use a steering wheel in the lower right corner & wish to click the sails to raise or lower them.
You can control how your ship turns by using the sails in combination with regular turning & the speed slider in the bottom right hand corner. You can use the main sails to push the aft of the ship around while using only the fore sails to push the bow around. You will need some practice to master this skill as it takes more then just simply raising or lowering either one. You will need to learn how to use this skill in combination with the wind.
You will see in the lower right hand corner there is an icon for barrels. You use these to blow up or set ablaze the npc ship by sailing directly in front of them making them fallow you then tossing them out the rear of the ship or sailing right up next to them & tossing it out the side on top of them. You will see an icon appear aft opening this that looks like the aft of the ship you use this to select the direction you throw the barrels.
Sprit topmast: a small mast set on the end of the bowsprit (discontinued after the early 18th century); not usually counted as a mast, however, when identifying a ship as “two masted” or “three masted”
Fore-mast: the mast nearest the bow, or the mast forward of the main-mast
Sections: Fore-mast lower—Fore topmast—Fore topgallant mast
Main-mast: the tallest mast, usually located near the center of the ship
Sections: Main-mast lower—Main topmast—Main topgallant mast—royal mast (if fitted)
Mizzen-mast: the third mast, or the mast immediately aft of the main-mast. Typically shorter than the fore-mast.
Sections: Mizzen-mast lower—Mizzen topmast—Mizzen topgallant mast
Pyroscaphe as seen below was an early experimental steamship built by Marquis de Jouffroy d’Abbans in 1783. The first demonstration took place on 15 July 1783 on the river Saône in France. After the first demonstration, it was said that the hull had opened up and the boiler was letting out steam, faults common in early steamboats. In this case, it seems to have been easily repaired as the boat was said to have made several trips up and down the river. A month later, on 19 August, the boat carried several passengers who signed a witness protocol for a successful journey.
The Pyroscaphe was propelled by a double-acting steam machine and sidewheels, and was therefore a paddle steamer.
You will need to click on the upper right corner of the screen just below your ship icon to control your fleet. You have the choice of Stay In Place, Attack Or Evade Enemy Ships & Fallow Me. You can also change the ammo type they use’ They must have it on board to use it. You can make them all use the same ammo type or individually choose the ammo type. You can do the same for what the fleet ships do. You can not however make them grapple the other ships only you can do that.
Multiplayer & CoOp
Multiplayer works on the basis of joining PVP or PVE games created by other players or creating your own matches for you & your friends where you fight each other 1v1 & 2v2 or battle the npc in 2v4 & 4v6. You can only choose from ships in the port you enable multiplayer from. You wont lose your ship permanently in pvp.
I see people asking this all the time & the answer is no there is no CoOp at this time as it was presented on the developers Facebook page & the answer was still no by the lead beta tester.
