Planet 4546B Arctic Regions: Flora & Fauna Research

Because this guide is made with information gathered by my own, it won't be complete. If you need more complete information you should use the Subnautica Below Zero Wikia[subnautica-belowzero.fandom.com].

To update the guide I need to make progress with the research of the flora and fauna of Planet 4546B, this will take some time.

If some of the information is not correct, please leave a comment. This helps me to provide an accurate guide to all of you.

The following sections show the flora I've examined while being stationed on Planet 4546B.

The Antennea Plant is very colorful to attract herbivores, which in their turn spread the spores of the plant.

The Blooming Raindrops is a tall plant with luminescent bulbs and little flowers. The Blue variant is quite rare and can be found near Fallen Lilypads.

The Blue Scrub Bush is quite common on the Delta Island. Sadly, i can't find any seeds on it to grow it in a pot. Maybe it's not the right season at the moment.

The Blue Spike Trap is a trap. When you see it, it's probably too late.

Dangers
The long vines of the Blue Spike Trap grabs prey that comes too close and pulls it towards its center. Try to stay away from the ground to avoid being caught in it's vines.

The Broken Mandrake is familiar with the Twisted Mandrake. Due to its surroundings the Broken Mandrake can't thrive as well as its twisted brother.

This mushroom is strange, it has some hoops-like sections on top. Maybe I'll call them Hoopshrooms..., Loopshrooms..., Bullseye Shrooms...?

Multiple biome are named after these structures. Some of them twist a lot while others are almost straight. It seems that they grow through rocks, where parts of it can be seen in caves.
When I first saw them I thought they were the remaining tentacles of a Sea Emperor...

The Creepvine is a orange-yellow vine-like plant of multiple meters high. Sometimes it can even reach all the way to the surface. There are two different kind of Creepvine: with clusters and without. The Creepvine with clusters are a lot thicker than the ones without clusters.

The Crescent Moon Corals are real cliffhangers on 4546B. They consist of multiple moon-shaped (almost round) corals, that are connected to the rock on a single point at the very bottom.

The Double Shell Plant is familiar to the Single Shell Plant. They also often grow together in clusters.

The Frost Anemone grows on the bottom of icebergs. It's a rigid plant with a fruit that grows in a center of spikes.

The Hardy Cave Bush has red-blue colored leaves and is a bit larger than a Violet Beau.

The Hivemind groups together with others to look larger for predators. The luminescent bulbs try to attract small creatures.

The Honeycomb Fungus is a pretty large fungus type and it's strange that a fungus can thrive in a below-zero climate. Even though, i couldn't find any useful application for it at the moment.

The Horseshoe Shrub is a very useful plant. They have very nutritious nuts, which also can be used as a seed to plant in a pot.

The Kelproots are like braided vines that invade the Arctic Kelp Caves. Some of the vines have blobs on them, containing some kind of fluid.

• Root Globule

The Lilypad is the defining plant in the Lilypad Islands and that's the only place to find them. The plant goes through 4 stages from a little seedling, over adolescence and rising to, finally, a mature Lilypad. Due to the surface tension, the mature plant can keep itself above water.

The Oxygen Plant is a very useful plant. It can provide you with some well-needed oxygen when diving deeper than 100 meter. After using the oxygen of the bulb, the plant needs some time to replenish the oxygen. They can be found quite easily in caves and other dark places due to their luminescent bulb.
If only i could get some seeds from it, I could grow them in some exterior growbed to provide me with oxygen at hard-to-reach places... EVERYWHERE.

It's pink, it's narrow and it's apparantly a leaf. It's a Pink Narrowleaf! It's also quite tall...

The Pouch Bulb looks like a succulent. It has a stiff leaf-like body and little flowers that bloom in different stages. They would look great in a pot.

The Purple Cattail looks like a cattail and is purple. The tall leaves next to it seems to be the same plant.

The Radiant Sieve Coral is like a designers lamp on the ground. It's quite useful thanks to it's incredibly luminescent center.

The Ragged Pitcher Plant looks like a single flower on a stalk. Apparently it's a carnivorous plant and devours small fish.

Ribbon Plants are artistic and useful plants. The acidic fluids stored in the inner bulb can be used to craft batteries. At night the bulb illuminates which makes them easier to find.

The Scaly Maw Anemone grows quite large and always has three branches. On top they got these anemones, maybe they filter some useful substances from the water...

The Single Shell Plant is pure decorative and has no useful application. It's sad that you can't get a seed from it to plant in a pot.

The Spiral Plant is, next to the Redwort, one of the inhabitants of the enormous Ventgardens. It's quite useful in crafting and can luckily be re-planted.

The Spotted Dockleaf is a beautiful grass-type plant with yellow-blue leaves and light-blue luminescent dots.

The Sulfur Plant lives in symbiosis with the Crashfish. After the Crashfish leaves, the plant stays open till it hosts another Crashfish.

The Table Coral is a smaller coral variety on 4546B. This variant can be used to craft items like computer chips.

The Thermal Lily is your save haven on land during bad weather. As you draw closer to the plant it will sense your presence and heat up to attract you. But watch out: don't get to close or you'll get burned!
I hope that some day I can take a seed back home and plant it in a little pot to spend some warm evenings together.

This Violet Beau is not violet, but besides it's color it's identical to the violet Violet Beau. It seems the special environment and ground changes the color, because all seeds from this variant yield a purple plant.

It seems like the Violet Snowcone grows in a cone of ice and only the flower reaches out of it. Does the plant have to protect itself from the harsh winds? Or is the height needed for enough sunlight?

The following sections shows the fauna I've examined while being stationed on Planet 4546B.
Stay away from the Leviathans!

The Arctic Peeper belongs to the well-known Peeper family of Planet 4546B. Just like its little brother the Arctic Peeper is quite nutritious, so bottle-up for a nice meal. Due to its lighter color, it can be hard to spot in the arctic water, but the three luminescent fins might help you to catch it at night.

Characteristics
One large eye on each side, three blue luminescent fins

Behavior
They can be challenging to catch, at least for me. It's like they got a booster pack in their tail fin. Using that boost they jump out of the water, just like the dolphins back home.

Sustenance

The Arctic Ray is a fascinating species. The structural complexity of the body that enables the ray to move so elegant, almost effortless, is extraordinary. Also, it looks weird.

Behavior
The first time I saw this ray, I hoped I could interact with it. But it's only concerned with 'twisting', at least it lives in the right place for that.

The Arrow Ray is a small fish with arrow-like frontal fins for evasive maneuvers.

Behavior
It swims evasive maneuvers.

Sustenance

One might think on a planet with this much water, it won't be easy to dehydrate. Well, the Bladderfish is the only fish you can use to get drinkable water. So, every time I see one I'll catch it, because it seems a human needs quite some water at a daily basis.
I can breath it; I can drink it; I can eat it. What more do I need?

Behavior
The Bladderfish seems to glide through the water. Sometimes it just stops for a while.

Sustenance

The Boomerang thanks its name to its half-moon shape.
Sometimes they smile.

Behavior
It swims sharp turns and seldom stops.

Sustenance

The Brinewing is a strange creature that can store freezing water in its belly. It has two long fins that look like little wings.

Characteristics
Yellow color, blue spots, long nose, long fins

Behavior
They swim around to collect ice cold water. Once their belly is filled they search for prey to freeze. Avoid larger Brinewings.

Eggs
The Brinewing eggs stick on the ice, mostly on the bottom of glaciers.

The Brute Shark is one of the first dangerous creatures I've encountered. They're quite easy to recognize by the marks on their back. Its size prevents it from entering small cave, hide there when they ambush you.

Predator, won't fit into small caves, yellow marks, white scary eyes

Behavior
They scour their territory for prey, even though they are not aggressive towards other Brute Shark.

Dangers
The Brute Shark attacks with high speed and uses its large teeth to bite its prey.

WARNING: Leviathan class predator!
The Chelicerate has strong scales that cover its entire body and an enormous beak to crush its prey. The scales on its back have a beautiful red color, maybe to warn other creatures. But I would advise not to take a closer look without a Prawn Suit, as it still is a Leviathan class predator and kills you in an instant.
Its beak resembles the one of a Camel Spider. I hate spiders! Habitat
Purple Vents & Tree Spires

Characteristics
Leviathan class, red scales and spikes on top, white scales on bottom, large beak

Behavior
The Chelicerate circles the canyons in the Purple Vents. It stays close to the canyons and does not venture far.

Dangers
This is a Leviathan class predator. An attack from it on a person results in an instant death. Try to stay hidden inside the canyons / cave systems to avoid an attack. For other interactions, a Prawn Suit is advisable.

The Crashfish won't let you explore caves at a relaxed pace. As soon as you hear the sound of the opening Sulfur Plant, it is too late. And don't even try to eat it!

Characteristics
Red an white colors, spikes around its body, one eye in the center

Behavior
As soon as you come close to a closed Sulfur Plant, it will open to show that it is armed. When you get even closer, the Crashfish will leave the Sulfur Plant and swims straight towards you. If it touches anything the Crashfish will explode.

The Cryptosuchus is a large predator that preys on small fish. Its body is protected with thin scales. Hide in the canyons to avoid it or ambush it to chase it away.
It's not really the elegant type of swimmer.

Behavior
They hunt for small prey in their territory.

Dangers
The Cryptosuchus attacks when you come too close. But will flee after a single hit.

The Discud Fish is a small, brightly yellow colored fish. It's very agile due to it's unique form.

Characteristics
One eye in front, multiple bright yellow fins, blue luminescent spot

Behavior
They are agile and like to swim near and in small caves to escape from predators.

Sustenance

The Feather Fish has two large fins, which are larger than its body. They also school together to be save from predators, next to the lonely ones.

The Feather Fish has two large fins, which are larger than its body.

Glow Whales are these majestic leviathan class creatures that seem to fly through the water. They spread some kind of calmness, even more than the Titan Holefish.
I hope to meet them again very soon.

Behavior
It swims like flying through the water with its wing-like fins. To eat, it opens its mouth and catches everything in front of it, like with a net. Sometimes they jump out of the water.

The Hoopfish is some special kind of fish, as it does not use its fins to swim. It pulls itself through the water by changing the density in front of it with its hoop.
Maybe I can use the same technique to make my Sea Truck more efficient?

Behavior
The Hoopfish often form small schools. Others venture out as a lone survivor, to be caught by some predator, as myself. They swim quite slow and are easy to catch.

Sustenance

WARNING: Leviathan class predator!
The Ice Worm is a land-based Leviathan and lives under the ice. As it tunnels through the ice it creates holes on the surface. To burrow fast enough, its extremly hot horn melts all ice in front of it away, what results in steam that sometimes escapes through holes.
I've heard it can leap towards its prey... Habitat

Characteristics
Leviathan class, large luminescent horn, black scales on back, white scaly belly

Behavior
The Ice Worm burrows under the ice in the Arctic Spires. When a creature comes close to a hole in the ice, the Ice Worm will ambush its prey.

Dangers
This is a Leviathan class predator. An attack from it on a person results in an instant death. Try to stay away from holes in the ice to avoid an attack. Or use a Thumper to distract it.

The Jellyfish are mostly found in the Glacial Connection where they have enough space to gather in big swarm. They can see..., well they have an eye, right on top.

Characteristics
8 luminescent tentacles, jelly filled bulb, one big eye, creepy

Behavior
They just float through the water and do not mind other creatures.

The Juvenile Ventgarden is smaller than the Ventgarden and the biggest difference is that these float through the water. Whereas, the Ventgardens are attached to the ground.
It left home a while ago.

Behavior
It floats through the water searching for the perfect place to settle.

The Lily Paddler is a fascinating species, but don't get too close or it will disorient you for a while.

Lots of small leaf-like fins, luminescent spots, 4 orange eyes, 2 arms

Behavior
It swims slowly and seems vulnerable to predators, like Brute Sharks. Once a large creature comes too close, it puts up the luminescent fins and hypnotizes the 'attacker', to disorient it for a while. It won't hurt you, but feels funny.

The Noot Fish is a small, colorful fish with a beak?! Apparently it's no beak but a extendable lip to swallow smaller fish.
I hope this is the largest variety...

Behavior
It swims very slowly and is easy to catch. Sometimes, it swallows other small fish.

Sustenance

The Pengling is the juvenile variant of the Pengwing. They imitate the behavior of their parents and hunt for small prey in the water. They rest on shallow icebergs from the water diving.

Behavior
They are curious and clumsy. But don't try to take them home!

The Pengwing are streamlined creatures, made for the hunt under water. They shoot through the water to catch small fish. After the hunt they feed their fledglings on shallow icebergs.

Behavior
They are not very interested in other creatures, except small fish. As expected from parents, the Pengwing are very protective of their babies. Some parents could learn a lot from them.

The Rockgrub is a quite large larvae that glows in the dark. It can be picked-up and placed somewhere else to lure Rock Punchers towards it.

The Rock Puncher is a heavy armored crustacean with thick scales. With its hardened claws it breaks open the ground to find larvae to feed on. It is still a predator and will attack when getting too close.

Behavior
They thrust with their claws into the ground to break small rocks from them, which are covered in larvae. Afterwards, they drop the rock on the ground, containing minerals.

Dangers
The Rock Puncher is a predator and will attack when getting too close. It can jump short distances to attack. Avoid getting too close or lure away with larvae.

The Sea Monkey is a playful creature and is highly sociable. They build nests in caves and collect all kinds of stuff to make it a comfortable home, even fragments.

Behavior
They roam their territory to collect building materials for their nests. Watch out with your tools, they might take them home. After a certain event they will stop stealing and instead offer gifts

The Spinefish seems familiar to the Hoopfish in the Shallow Twisty Bridges. It's not as vibrant as its brother, but just as sustaining.

The Squidshark is a large predator circling its territory. It will attack on sight.

They circle their territory and hunt for small prey.

The Squidshark has large fangs and can swallow you whole. Hide in small caves to avoid an attack.

The Symbiote is the sworn protector of the Titan Holefish. In small groups, they attack everyone who comes too close.

Sparse Arctic

Characteristics
Blue scaled head, red muscled tail, very aggressive

Behavior
The Symbiote swims around the Titan Holefish. They are very fast and will put up a fight if you try to catch them.

Dangers
They will attack you when come too close to them. Keep a safe distance or take them out to avoid damage.

It glides slowly through the water, without the fear for predators, as the Symbiotes protect it. Its sole purpose is filtering oxygen from the surrounding water and storing it in its inner ring. Which is quite useful for me as I can replenish my oxygen reserves without swimming all the way to the surface.

The Void Chelicerate resembles the Chelicerate that can be found in the Purple Vents. They have lost their red color, due to missing sunlight maybe. Also, the many wounds make me wonder, what's going on down there. It could be some kind of sickness or parasite.
Could Alterra be the cause for the wounds?

Behavior
The Void Chelicerate appears out of the darkness at the World Edge. After a while more may join and greet you with their frightening voice. Some report that not more than 3 will appear.

Dangers
This is a Leviathan class predator. An attack from it on a person results in an instant death. Try to stay away from the World Edge to avoid an attack. For other interactions, a Prawn Suit is advisable.
