Sid Meier’s Civilization® V Guide

Washington America Guide for Sid Meier's Civilization V

Washington America Guide

Overview

Are you looking for a conquering Civ other than Mongolia? Do you want to bomb your enemies with better planes? Well America is the Civ for you. Led by President Washington, the Civ can conquer and expand like any other Civ. With its ability, Manifest Destiney, your land units get +1 sight and also 50% off purchasing tiles. This guide will help you expand, play and conquer as America.

American Misconceptions

Let’s face it, every Civ has misconceptions. America is an ok Civ that can conquer easily if need be. But America is overlooked as not a conquering or expanding Civ, so many players go for the more ‘cooler’ Civs to play as (Moglolia, Russia, Korea, etc.) The misconception for Amercia is that it is not a bad Civ to play as, but has a horrible ability and isnt ‘cool’ amongst most players.

America is a good Civ to play as. Like any Civ, America can conquer, expand, and is playable. Military units with extra sight can turn any attack or war in your favor. This guide will run through America and help you overcome these misconceptions.

America’s Destiny

Starting is easy for players, I will still run through it anyway. I really do not have a map preferance for this Civ, so choose any map that fits your desire. I prefer a map wilth Hills and Forests. America has an ok start in early game but can really kick but from mid to late game.

America’s ability Manifest Destiney, is an ok ability. It gives land military units +1 Sight and cost to buy tiles is reduced by 50%. Manifest Destiney also allows the building of the B17, which replaces the Bomber and the Minuteman which replaces the musketmen. (These units do not really matter in early game but will help you from mid to late game)

This can help you early game. I recommend after you found your first city, to build a scout unit. The +1 Sight can help to explore the map of your choice and can help plan your expansion to found other cities. The 50% off from buying tiles allows you to control your cities expansion by buying tiles. Also you do not have to relay on Social Policies like Tradition and city growth to expand. Just buy whichever tile you want.

America gives 2 unique units, the Minutemen and the B17. The Minuteman unit replaces the musketmen. The Minuteman have a combat bounas in rough terrain (Hills, Forests, etc) From the start, the Minuteman have Drill 1 promotion, allowing rough terrain combat bonus. The Minuteman will be of great use if you start out on a map that has Hills and Forests. The Minuteman only the tech Gunpowder in order to build.

The B17 is America’s air unit that replaces the Bomber. The B17 has an advantage in bombing cities with its Siege 1 promotion. This unit is able to take more hits than the Bomber. The B17 requires an Oil source in your city, and the tech Radar in order to build.

With 2 strong unique units and discount for purshasing tiles, America can be considered a conquering and expanding Civ. Now you can bring down the power of America on your enemies.
