Introduction

You have just stepped into Q's Winter Wonderland, wanting your chance to grab a Breen warship. You find out that you must compete in a race to gain the glossy photos of Q in order to acquire your own warship. You signal the race official, and the race begins. The spider or similar NPC speeds pass you, or you are going too fast and land in the snow off the track, and have to try again. This is irritating.

No worries, this guide will go through the basics, then will have some strategy for the PvP race.

Basics

This guide will go through two different strategies for movement. Initially we will start off with no auto-walk/run, then will introduce a strategy involving auto-walk/run.

At the starting line, you want to start with forward movement with your "W" key. At the same time you will want to hold the "Shift" key on the left. The race will start up and you will begin to fly forward.

At your first turn, there are two different techniques that can be employed. Each require the character to be positioned in the correct direction or the camera focused with "Right Mouse" in that direction. The first one is to left go of shift and walk the turn. Walking the turn can lead to being dangerously close to the edge. The better approach is to use your crouch key, "C" while having the mouse pointed. You will lose some speed, but the speed loss is small in comparison to walking the turn.

After mastering the above turn technique, your goal is to plan the longest straight paths possible, where you stay within the ice/markers. This will have the greatest speed and your turn will be quick to get straight back to it.

The only difference if using auto-run/walk is the initial technique you need to use. To start, use your auto-walk key "R". Then press "Shift" once, and you should be good for the whole race. When you reach a turn, "C" will roll your character, but will still be able to run.

Tips for PvP Race

Most of the same concepts from the basic race to gain the photos for the Breen Warships also apply here. This race introduces in-course obstacles which require a little more navigation strategy.

At the start line, right before it starts you want to make sure you are using the forward movement method that you are most comfortable with, that way you start moving as the gate drops. Some might get infront of you off the bat, but do not get discouraged.

The strategy for turns are the exact same, with some other situations where you might want to go with walking the turn or even running the turn. These situations prop up with you are right next to an obstacle that goes in the direction of the turn. It stops your movement in the wrong direction so that you can go the correct direction faster.

For obstacles you cannot avoid, jumping the obstacle will help preserve your forward speed, and keep going. The strategy you want to try for though is to avoid the obstacles, since there is still a slight speed loss from jumping them.

Straight lines are you friend here, as you are able to gain a great amount of speed, which require navigating the obstacles to go for straight lines.

At the finish area, there are flags for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Finish if you place lower. The first flag is in the middle while the 2nd and 3rd are located on the left. You want to ready your "F" key and press "S" when you are really close to slow down. This will allow the game to register the message so you can claim the flag.

Conclusion

The above tips will help you become a racer, and should help you win some first places during the PvP race. Hopefully I see you guys out there in Q's Winter Wonderland with less racing woes.
