Beginning

This guide is an English translation of my Russian guide, which you can find here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2360279451
Note: All DLCs are required to achieve 100% completion.
Rain World is a harsh game, and getting 100% achievements can easily turn into a test of patience. Before you dive into the grind, it’s important to know that there are official tools available to make your journey a bit less "suffocating."

Whether you use them or stick to the pure hardcore experience is entirely up to you. None of the settings listed below disable achievements, as they were added by the developers themselves. For your convenience, I’ve highlighted only the options that directly impact achievement hunting or save time.
Remix Settings
In the main menu, you'll find the Remix tab — an official set of Quality of Life (QoL) improvements. Some of these can significantly smooth out your path to 100%.
Core Settings
  • Passage progress without Survivor — A crucial option. It allows you to gain progress for all Passages (Monk, Hunter, etc.) immediately, even if the "Survivor" achievement hasn't been unlocked yet. In the vanilla game, you are forced to unlock "Survivor" first before any other passage progress starts counting.
  • Key item tracking — Important items like pearls or neurons won't be lost forever if dropped; they will respawn in the next cycle.
  • Key items on Passage — When using a Passage, all key items stored in your shelter will teleport with you. This saves a massive amount of time and nerves.
Difficulty Tweaks
These settings directly reduce the difficulty or the amount of repetitive tasks. Using them depends on your personal "patience threshold."
  • Hunter Cycles / Hunter Bonus Cycles — Allows you to increase the cycle limit for the Hunter campaign. If the standard 20 cycles feel too restrictive for achievement hunting, this is your solution.
  • Monk-style gates for all campaigns — Once you open a Karma Gate, it stays open forever. This eliminates the need for constant karma farming when backtracking.
  • Disable all karma requirements — Completely removes karma requirements for all gates.
  • Rain Timer Multiplier — Increases the duration of the cycle before the rain starts.
  • Passage to any shelter — Allows you to fast-travel to any shelter in a region, even those you haven't slept in yet. Greatly speeds up traversal.
Time Savers
Even without using Remix, there are a few tricks to speed up the achievement farm:
  • Starvation: You can hibernate with only one food pip. The next cycle will be more difficult, but this allows you to progress survival-based achievements without extra hunting.
  • Skip Animations: Holding the map button (Space) on the hibernation screen speeds up the animation. It saves a lot of time when farming dozens of cycles.
  • Choosing the Right Character: Different slugcats can significantly simplify or complicate specific achievements:
    • The Monk: Ideal for "The Chieftain" and "The Friend" achievements, as mobs are less aggressive and easier to tame.
    • Artificer and Spearmaster: The best choice for combat achievements like "The Dragon Slayer" and "The Outlaw" due to their physical strength and unique abilities.
    • The Saint: Naturally completes "The Monk" passage since they cannot eat meat.
    • Hunter and Artificer: Naturally complete "The Hunter" passage during a normal run, as they receive only 1/4 pips from non-meat food.
    • Rivulet: Thanks to incredible speed and mobility, they can finish "The Wanderer" or "The Nomad" faster than anyone else, especially after retrieving Rarefaction Cell.
    • The Survivor: The most balanced option for "cleaning up" all standard achievements in a single run.
  • Character Restrictions: Remember that some achievements are locked for certain slugcats. For example, it is impossible to befriend Scavengers as the Artificer, and as The Saint, you cannot collect colored pearls (they are absent or unreadable in that timeline).
Useful Resources
  • Interactive Map[rain-world-map.github.io] — Essential for route planning and finding pearls, echoes, or other key objects.

General information

Passages are awarded for completing specific in-game actions and are directly tied to achievements. They allow the Slugcat to teleport to any shelter already visited in the current campaign and restore Karma to its maximum level. Obtaining a Passage for the first time always grants the corresponding achievement.

Progress changes are highlighted on the sleep screen: positive changes appear in white, while negative ones appear in red. Progress for point-based Passages cannot be lost (except for The Nomad), whereas progress for unfinished streak-based Passages can be reset. A completed Passage is never lost, with the sole exception of The Chieftain.

Passage progress updates during hibernation and, unlike most save data, is preserved even after death or an encounter with an Echo.

Completing a Passage grants a Passage Token, displayed on the hibernation screen next to the "Passage" button. You can hold multiple tokens at once, but each can only be used once. Upon activation, the token is consumed, teleporting the Slugcat to a previously visited shelter, restoring Karma, nearly filling the food bar, and advancing the cycle count.

Resetting a campaign clears all Passages, allowing them to be earned again. In Expedition mode, Passages are available, but tokens are not granted. Passages also affect the final score by adding a multiplier equal to one plus the number of Passages earned, regardless of whether the tokens were actually used.

Passage List (1/2)

Survivor
"This land has become your home"

Awarded for hibernating 5 cycles at maximum Karma.

Ending a cycle at one less than maximum Karma, and thus starting the next cycle with maximum Karma, progresses The Survivor. A progress pip is earned for each successful cycle and cannot be lost; as such, the five cycles need not be consecutive. Although the symbol for The Survivor matches that of the fifth Karma symbol, Karma must be at its current maximum to progress towards the Survivor. The Survivor is a prerequisite for unlocking some other Passages. If the Remix option to always enable Passage progress is selected (which is default), then progress towards most Passages can happen before earning The Survivor.
The Monk
"Path of the vegetarian" Awarded for maintaining a vegetarian diet for 6 cycles.
Hibernating after a successful vegetarian cycle increases progress by 1, and dying reduces progress by 0.5. The Monk does not appear on the Passage wheel until its progress is at least 1.5, and is completed when its progress reaches 6.
Foods that are considered vegetarian are:
  • Blue Fruit
  • Popcorn Plant
  • Bubble Fruit
  • Slime Mold
  • Neuron Fly
Downpour added additional 'vegetarian' foods. These include:
  • Lilypuck
  • Glow Weed
  • Dandelion Peach
  • Gooieduck
  • Seed
  • Fire Egg
The Watcher added additional 'vegetarian' foods. These include:
  • Pomegranate
  • Sand Grub
  • Fire Sprite Larva

Hibernating after eating any meat, such as Batflies or Infant Centipedes, resets The Monk's progress to 0. Hibernating after not eating in a cycle has no effect on progress towards The Monk.
The Hunter
"Path of the carnivore" Awarded for maintaining a carnivorous diet for 6 cycles.
Hibernating after a successful carnivorous cycle increases progress by 1, and dying reduces progress by 0.5. The Hunter does not appear on the Passage wheel until its progress is at least 1.5, and is completed when its progress reaches 6.
Foods that are considered meat are:
  • Batfly
  • Infant Noodlefly
  • Centipede
  • Eggbug Egg
  • Jellyfish
  • Hazer
  • Vulture Grub
  • Creature corpses (when playing as a carnivorous Slugcat)
The Watcher expansion introduced several new 'meat' food sources. While these are technically living creatures, The Watcher can consume them for food pips. These include:
  • Frog
  • Tardigrade
  • Barnacle
Hibernating after eating any non-meat foods (such as Blue Fruit or Neurons) resets The Hunter's progress to 0. Hibernating after not eating in a cycle has no effect on progress towards The Hunter.
The Saint
"Path of the pacifist" Awarded for not harming creatures for 6 cycles.
Hibernating after a successful 'pacifist' cycle increases progress by 1, and dying reduces progress by 0.5. The Saint does not appear on the Passage wheel until its progress is at least 1.5, and is completed when its progress reaches 6.
With the exceptions of Batflies, Infant Centipedes, Coalescipedes, Leeches, Jellyfish, and Vulture Grubs, harming or killing another creature resets progress towards The Saint. Attacking an Infant Noodlefly resets progress, but grabbing or eating one does not.
Ways to reset progress:
  • Landing a direct hit with any weapon against a creature (including Rocks, unpopped Bubble Fruit, Spears, Grenades, Cherrybombs, Spore Plants, Flashbangs, Beehives, Lilypucks, Singularity Bombs, Joke Rifle bullets).
  • Attempting to attack a creature by throwing a Grenade.
  • Indirectly killing a creature (e.g., killing a Big Spider with a Flashbang or an arthropod with a Spore Plant resets progress even without a direct hit; slamming, rolling, or sliding into a creature as Gourmand, or mauling as Artificer resets progress if the creature dies within 5 seconds, unless another creature is responsible for the death).
  • Stunning a creature with an explosive shockwave as Artificer.

The Outlaw
"Path of aggression"

Awarded for killing at least 7 creatures over consecutive cycles.
Hibernating after killing at least one creature increases progress by the number of creatures killed, and dying reduces progress by 1. The Outlaw does not appear on the Passage Wheel until its progress is at least 3, and is completed when its progress reaches 7.
Progress towards The Outlaw is reset if Slugcat hibernates after killing no creatures in a cycle. Hibernating after killing 7 creatures in one cycle awards The Outlaw immediately.
Kills of Batflies, Coalescipedes, Leeches, Infant Centipedes, Vulture Grubs, and Hazers are ignored by the passage. Killing only Snails, Grappling Worms, Pole Plants, or Overseers in a cycle does not reset nor improve progress towards The Outlaw.

The Chieftain
"Embraced by a new tribe"

Awarded for reaching a sufficiently high global Scavenger reputation.
Hibernating does not directly affect progress towards the Chieftain; its progress always reflects the current global reputation. For Slugcats other than Monk, the Chieftain does not appear on the passage wheel until global reputation is at least 10 and is completed once it reaches 80.
Unlike the other Passages, The Chieftain (along with its Passage token) can be revoked after it is earned once the requirement is no longer fulfilled.

Passage List (2/2)

The Wanderer
"Your travels have taken you far"

Awarded for hibernating once in each region.
Hibernating awards the pip for the current region if not already earned. The Wanderer appears on the Passage Wheel after any pip of progress.

Regions corresponding to the pips (from inner to outer): Outskirts, Industrial Complex, Drainage System, Chimney Canopy, Garbage Wastes, Shaded Citadel, Shoreline, Sky Islands, Farm Arrays, Exterior, Five Pebbles, and Subterranean.

One of the recommended routes: Outskirts → Industrial Complex → Drainage → Chimney Canopy → Garbage Wastes → Shaded Citadel → Shoreline → Sky Islands → Farm Arrays → Exterior → Five Pebbles → Depths.

Downpour: With Downpour enabled, Pipeyard is the pip placed between Shaded Citadel and Shoreline.
The 14th pip added in each campaign are as follows: Outer Expanse (Gourmand), Metropolis (Artificer), Submerged Superstructure (Rivulet), Looks to the Moon (Spearmaster), and Rubicon (Saint).
The Shoreline pip is replaced by Waterfront Facility when playing as Artificer or Spearmaster and the Five Pebbles pip is replaced by The Rot when playing as Rivulet. Shaded Citadel is replaced by Silent Construct and Drainage System is replaced by Undergrowth for Saint. Five Pebbles and The Exterior are absent for Saint.
While Submerged Superstructure is accessible to any Slugcat except for Artificer and Spearmaster, the progress pip is only available to Rivulet.

The Dragon Slayer
"Predator has become prey"

Awarded for killing six different types of Lizards.
Hibernating after successfully killing a Lizard awards a pip with a matching color if that pip was not already earned. The Dragon Slayer appears on the Passage Wheel after any pip of progress.

Lizard List:
  • Green Lizard
  • Pink Lizard
  • Blue Lizard
  • White Lizard
  • Yellow Lizard
  • Black Lizard
In Downpour, these also count:
  • Cyan Lizard
  • Red Lizard
  • Caramel Lizard
  • Strawberry Lizard
In The Watcher, these also count:
  • Indigo Lizard
  • Basilisk Lizard
  • Blizzard Lizard
  • Peach Lizard
The following do not count:
  • Salamander
  • Eel Lizard
  • Train Lizard

The Friend
"One need not travel alone"

Awarded for hibernating with a fully tamed Lizard for three cycles in a row.
Hibernating with a fully tamed Lizard increases progress by 34. The Friend appears on the Passage wheel once any progress is made towards it and is completed when its progress reaches 100.

The Lizard must be in the shelter with Slugcat when the hibernation screen appears in order to progress The Friend. Hibernating with an untamed Lizard increases Slugcat's reputation with that particular Lizard, but may not fully tame them. In that case, The Friend's progress increases by less than 34 (with the exact amount depending on the Lizard's initial starting reputation) and may require more than three cycles to complete. Hibernating without a Lizard in the shelter resets progress towards The Friend back to 0.

Taming occurs by feeding Lizards small dead creatures. The amount of food required depends on the species, personality, and reputation. Green and Pink Lizards are the easiest to tame. Blue and White Lizards are the best travel companions due to their wall-climbing abilities.

The Scholar
"History lessons" Earned by touching 3 colored Pearls after after fulfilling certain conditions.
Hibernating after touching a colored Pearl awards a pip with a color matching that of the Pearl, and multiple pips may be earned in a single cycle. The Scholar appears on the Passage wheel once any progress is made towards it, and is completed when its progress reaches 3.
Requirements vary by slugcat:
  • Monk, Survivor, Gourmand: Obtain the Mark and meet Looks to the Moon.
  • Hunter, Rivulet: Already start with the Mark.
  • Artificer, Spearmaster: Just obtain the Mark.
  • Saint: Cannot obtain this Passage.

Story Achievements (Spoilers)

A New Friend
"You are not the only lost soul in this world.."

Awarded after the player meets Looks to the Moon and hibernates.
Slugcat sees a vision of Looks to the Moon in their sleep, and the achievement is given. However, if the player steals a Neuron, they do not receive this achievement, and instead earn the "Stolen Enlightenment" achievement.

Stolen Enlightenment
"A significant gain, but at what cost?"

This achievement is rewarded if the player steals at least 1 of Looks to the Moon's Neurons as Survivor or Monk and then hibernates.
Slugcat sees a vision of Looks to the Moon injured in their sleep, and the achievement is given.
Important:The achievement can only be earned if the player steals a Neuron upon their first visit to Looks to the Moon. Stealing a Neuron on subsequent visits causes the vision to be seen upon next hibernation, but does not grant the achievement.

The Journey
"Go west, past the Farm Arrays and then down deep into the earth..."

Awarded after the player meets Five Pebbles in the center of his complex.
Five Pebbles explains where Slugcat should go next, and then sends them on their way. After the player hibernates, they see a vision and earn the achievement.

Pilgrimage
"The highest enlightenment, achieved by the hardest path. A feat even guardians must respect."

Requires the player to raise their maximum karma to the highest level without visiting Five Pebbles.
To do this, the player must find 4 out of the 6 Echoes, each of which raise the player's maximum karma by a small amount. All 4 Echoes must be found before visiting Five Pebbles. The achievement is earned as soon as the last Echo raises the player's karma level to the maximum of 10.
While playing as Hunter or Gourmand, Five Pebbles may contribute to the achievement, as long as he does not provide the final karma increase.

Ascension
"You have left this world behind"

Awarded for completing the game via ascension in Depths.
The achievement is given when the ending credits start scrolling.

Within Time
"You have found another way out"

Awarded for ascending as Hunter.

A Helping Hand
"A final charitable act"

Awarded for delivering the Green Neuron to Looks to the Moon or Five Pebbles as Hunter.

Echoes

Echo achievements are awarded upon meeting the corresponding Echo. There are 6 Echoes to be encountered (not counting those in Downpour, as meeting their unique Echoes does not grant achievements), and meeting each one grants an achievement corresponding to their name.
  • In most cases, you must visit their location twice.
  • During the second visit, you must have maximum karma or close to it:

  • If the player does not yet have the highest possible karma cap, discovering an Echo will increase the maximum karma level and send the player back to the previous shelter to start a new cycle with full karma.

A playlist showing the locations of the Echoes can be found here.

Four Needles under Plentiful Leaves
"You encountered the echo of Four Needles under Plentiful Leaves"

Four Needles under Plentiful Leaves is located in Shaded Citadel, below the western side of the eastern bridge connecting the region to Shoreline.

Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound
"You encountered the echo of Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound" Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound is located in The Exterior, at the top of The Wall.
  • Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound can be visited the first time that the player reaches their location.

Nineteen Spades, Endless Reflections
"You encountered the echo of Nineteen Spades, Endless Reflections"

Nineteen Spades, Endless Reflections is located at the top central area of Chimney Canopy, between the Karma Gates to Sky Islands to the west and The Exterior to the east.

Droplets upon Five Large Droplets
"You encountered the echo of Droplets upon Five Large Droplets"

Droplets upon Five Large Droplets is located in the lower left area of Sky Islands, near the gate to Farm Arrays.

A Bell, Eighteen Amber Beads
"You encountered the echo of A Bell, Eighteen Amber Beads"

A Bell, Eighteen Amber Beads is located in the lower right area of Farm Arrays, near the gate to Outskirts.

Two Sprouts, Twelve Brackets
"You encountered the echo of Two Sprouts, Twelve Brackets" Two Sprouts, Twelve Brackets is located in Subterranean, on the right side of the ravine next to the gate to Farm Arrays.
  • Two Sprouts, Twelve Brackets can be visited the first time that the player reaches their location.

Downpour Passage Achievements

Passages from Rain World: Downpour do not require the "Survivor" passage to be completed first regardless of Remix options, except for "The Nomad".

The Martyr
"Path of self-sacrifice"

Awarded for starving for four cycles.
Forcing a starve cycle increases progress by 27 and dying cuts current progress in half. Hibernating normally (including after a starve cycle) decreases progress by 2. The Martyr appears on the Passage wheel once any progress is made towards it and is completed once its progress reaches 100.
Each successful starve cycle, plus the following non-starve cycle, awards a total of 25 progress towards The Martyr. As such, a minimum of 7 cycles are necessary to earn The Martyr. However, the Passage token cannot be used during the final starve cycle. Dying during the starve cycle in which The Martyr was earned does not revert its progress or revoke the Passage token.

The Mother
"Followed your parental instincts"

Awarded for hibernating with Slugpups that perceive Slugcat as a friend.
Friendly Slugpups can be distinguished by them following Slugcat wherever they go. Hibernating with a Slugpup increases progress by 1 per Slugpup. Slugpups that do not have enough food to properly hibernate, either starving or dying, do not contribute to the count. Dying has no effect on progress towards The Mother. The Mother appears on the Passage wheel once any progress is made towards it, and is completed once progress reaches 5.

The Mother can normally only be earned by Survivor, Hunter, or Gourmand after the completion of Gourmand's Food Quest. Hibernating without having Slugpups in the Shelter resets The Mother's progress to 0.

The Nomad
"Great strides have been made"

Awarded for traveling through four Karma Gates in short span of time.
Traveling through a Karma Gate awards a pip for the region being exited, and multiple pips may be earned in a single cycle. The Nomad appears on the Passage wheel once any progress is made towards it, and is completed once all 4 pips are filled.

When a Karma Gate is activated, a pip is awarded for the region being exited so long as the region being entered is not the most recent pip awarded. This means that backtracking - traveling back to the last region visited - does not award a second pip.

Hibernating without earning any new pips resets progress back to 0 pips. However, starvation does not reset any progress. Unlike The Wanderer, it is not necessary to hibernate in a region to earn its pip.

The Pilgrim
"Listened to the conflation of echoes"

Awarded for visiting every Echo.
Finishing a cycle after visiting an Echo grants a specific pip for that Echo. The Pilgrim appears on the wheel once progress begins and is completed after filling all pips.

The pips for The Pilgrim follow the same order as The Wanderer (for most Slugcats, from inner to outer: Chimney Canopy, Shaded Citadel, Sky Islands, Farm Arrays, The Exterior, and Subterranean).

Downpour Story Achievements

Migration
"You return from scouting a new land"

Complete the game as The Gourmand by either reaching the westernmost point of Journey's End in Outer Expanse or ascending.
Note: It is highly recommended to complete Gourmand's Food Quest[rainworld.miraheze.org] during this run. Completing the quest unlocks Slugpups in other campaigns, which is a requirement for The Mother passage.

Closure
"The consequences of your journey have caught up with you"

Complete the game as Artificer by either defeating the Chieftain Scavenger at the end of Metropolis or ascending.

An Old Friend
"Fates have been flipped"

Complete the game as Rivulet by either returning to Looks to the Moon's chamber after taking Five Pebbles' Rarefaction Cell and using it to restore power inside Submerged Superstructure or ascending.

Messenger
"You have delivered your most important message"

Complete the game as The Spearmaster by either delivering Looks to the Moon's overwritten pearl to the top of the Sky Islands Communications Array in Sky Islands or ascending.

The Cycle
"Everything comes full circle"

Complete the game as The Saint by "ascending" at the top of Rubicon.

Challenges

Champion
"You have completed every challenge laid before you"

Awarded for completing all challenges in Challenge Mode (Arena).

Expeditions

Expedition Leader
"You have completed every expedition laid before you"

The Watcher Achievements

Astray

Awarded the first time you use a Warp Point.
This happens automatically after completing the prologue.

Bad Warp Awarded for creating a Bad Warp.
Methods:
  • Attempt to teleport without Karma Flower protection.
  • Pass through a warp point while under the Exhaustion debuff (requires multiple warps without hibernating).
You will be teleported to distorted ("rotten") versions of familiar regions: Crumbling Fringes, Corrupted Factories, Decaying Tunnels, or Infested Wastes. If you warped without a Karma Flower, you may also end up in the Outer Rim.
Note: Cannot be obtained if you have already met the Void Weaver 4 times
Mindless swimmers and floaters

Awarded for your first death to a Ripple Amoeba.
When your Ripple level reaches 7, using camouflage will start creating rifts from which amoebas emerge. Simply let this creature touch you and wait for the distortion effect to fully close in on the screen.

Through the ripple

Awarded for entering the Ripple Space.
This ability unlocks at the maximum Ripple level 9. You need to hold the ability button to "tear" the fabric of reality and enter the flipside space.

Pictures of the Past

Awarded for visiting the Ancient Urban region.
You can only get there via a one-way warp from the Shattered Terrace region while having Ripple level 9. This is a closed location tied to one of the endings.

Images and sounds

Awarded for reading a pearl in the Ancient Urban region.
Find the projector room (WAUA_PEARL). Place any pearl into the device.

The Watcher Story Achievements

Spinning Top

Awarded for completing the campaign with Ending №1.
Related to the character "Spinning Top." You must meet them in the final location, Ancient Urban.

Blossom

Awarded for meeting The Prince.
Locate "The Throne" subregion in the Outer Rim. Meeting his "puppet" will unlock the achievement.
On old saves where Ending №2 has already been completed, this can be obtained during the True Ending (via "The Choice" achievement).

The Prince

Awarded for completing Ending №2 (Sentient Rot Ending).
To achieve this, you must infect all available regions with "Sentient Rot." Infection spreads by opening portals between infected and clean zones.

The Weaver Awarded for the first encounter with The Void Weaver.
How to find:
  1. Watch the map: During hibernation, look at the region icons. If golden feathers are falling over a region, the Weaver is currently there.
  2. Look for sealed warps: Search the region for warp points that have turned golden. These are no longer functional.
  3. Follow the threads: Enter the Ripple space near a sealed warp. Golden threads and a glow will lead you straight to the Weaver.
  4. Signs: Rooms near the Weaver will grow darker, and a specific glow will appear.

A path. A purpose. Awarded for sealing a warp point.
This ability unlocks only after your fourth encounter with the Weaver.
  • After the 4th meeting, the Watcher gains the "Weaving" ability.
  • A halo will appear around your head. You can now approach warps you have created and seal them (turning them golden).
