Soul Master/Tyrant, Attack Patterns

Soul Master/Tyrant has 6 types of attacks split into two phases.

FIRST PHASE
1) He will teleport around the area, shooting 4-5 fireballs that hone in on your movement
  1. He teleports above you and divebombs you, causing a shock wave on either side that goes across the arena. There is a variation on this where he does a fake out and teleports above you again
  2. He teleports to the opposite side of the arena and charges at you
  3. He will teleport to the opposite side of the arena and hover in mid air, summoning 4 fire balls (six for Soul Tyrant) that circle around him as he charges you
SECOND PHASE
1) He powers up mid air and divebombs you 4-5 times very rapidly. These cause mini shockwaves around him that can hurt you but it's a relatively small area
  1. He will hover in a fixed point somewhere in the area and shoot fireballs at you that hone on your location

Builds and Charm Combos

Builds
I would recommend you at least have the dash ability, Mantis Claws, Shade Soul, and Shriek. If you want to wait until later gameplay, the Monarch Wings and Shade Cloak are also helpful, as well as the Abyssal Shriek.
Charm Combos
If you're fighting him early, I would recommend at least Stalwart Shell, Soul Catcher, and Shaman Stone, or any combo of those three if you don't have the charm notches. In later game play, Soul Catcher, Shaman Stone, Grub Song, and Spell Twister are a good combo.

If you have all notches and all charms, Unbreakable Heart, Unbreakable Strength, Shaman Stone, Sharp Shadow, and Grubsong absolutely polish this boss off.

Method to the Madness

FIRST PHASE
When you get to the area and the battle triggers, immediately go to the bottom corner of one of the walls, leaving moderate amount of space in between you and the wall. I recommend the left wall because you won't accidently get knocked onto the spikes on the veranda that's on the right side.

When he teleports and shoots fireballs at you, wait until they're close before jumping/dodging. This will cause them to hit the wall/floor and disappear.

When he does his divebomb attack, this is where mantis claw comes in handy; jump/dash to the wall and climb it. His divebomb attack will miss you and you will be high enough that his shockwave doesn't get you. If he does a fake out, dash off the wall and then jump over his shockwave, returning you to your original position.

When he does his charge attack, you can jump over him and hit him with a downward swipe of your nail. You can also climb the wall to make sure you get enough air to dodge his attack if you aren't comfortable with downward attacks.

When he summons fireballs around himself either as Soul Master or Soul Tyrant, you can do one of two things.
  • Wait in the corner and dodge around the fireballs, and heal when he goes away
  • Follow under him while dodging the fireballs and hit up (I recommend you do this only on Soul Master since Soul Tyrant is more difficult to dodge)
If you do the first option, you can hit him with your nail 1-2 times if you time it right and still heal. You can also use Shriek for more damage if you have the soul for it. The second option you are more likely to get hit, but once you get the rhythm it's pretty easy to dodge. Just make sure you return to your wall of choice afterwards.

He will have periods where he "deflates" and is stunned. You can either use this time to heal or use Shriek on him if you have the soul to spare. If not, hit him with your nail.

SECOND PHASE
After you hit him in one of his stunned phases, he with teleport rapidly around the arena before crashing down into the floor, breaking the glass. If you hug the wall, you will stay in the upper arena and have a break to heal. After that, jump down into the lower arena and wait a few seconds.

He will teleport above you and rapidly divebomb you multiple times. The best way I have found to time this safely is to jump then dash, making sure you are always walking away from him to avoid the range of his small shock wave. After divebombing a few times he will teleport to a fixed point and shoot fireballs at you that hone on your position. Do the same as before and wait to dodge to make them disappear. This will also be the time to attack him with your nail, but be patient and wait for an opening. After that he will do his divebomb attack again.

Rinse and repeat. If you have enough soul saved up, use Shade Soul or Shriek for more damage.

Happy Hunting :)
