Growing Hemp in a Planter
Hemp in a Planter
Download Plant Trees mod or Random Furniture mod for models, because we want nice planters and those mods have some sweet ones.
First, we need to make some new assets for our hemp planter. You can either create them by copy-as-new and then edit the stuff inside the mod you are using (Random Furniture or Plant Trees).
Or grab the models and textures from those mods and copy them into a new one, if you don't mind the work and know what you're doing when it comes to the pathing later on. I'll just assume you know your stuff if you gonna go that route and won't explain it here, it's a whole other can or worms.
Anyway, let's get growing. I'll use the Berry Tree from Plant Trees mod, combining it with some customized elements from the vanilla game Hydroponic Hemp for example purposes here:
When starting up the FCS, deactivate all other mods except the one you want to use as base (Plant Trees or Random Furniture). Or if you want to make it an invidual mod click „Create New Mod“.
Then go to the „Game World“ panel (the big one that pops up when FCS opens), go to the „Buildings“ category, open the „Furniture“ sub-category and find the „Berry Tree“ entry.
Select it, copy-as-new; and in the data window for the new building that pops up you'll find all the info and assets that the planter with the berry bush is made of. Re-name it to „Hemp Planter“ or whatever you fancy, then put that window to the side. Need to make some stuff before we can fiddle with it.
So we don't want berries, we want WEE...eeh, I meant hemp, right^^. In order not to mess with existing elements of the mod or the vanilla game, we gonna need to do some more copy-as-new. In our Hemp Planter building's window, you'll see a field labeled „farm data“. That's the one we want to edit, but first we need to make the stuff that will go in there in exchange for the berries.
So go back to the Game World panel, find the „buildings“ category, open it and find the „farm data“ sub-category. Open it, navigate down until you find „hemp indoor farm type“ and copy-as-new, name it something like „hemp indoor farm type_planter“.
In this new farm data window, you'll see two entires in the „plants“ field: „crop_hemp1_part“ and „crop_hemp2_part“. Those are the ones that grow on the hemp hydroponic planter, but we only need one, our yet-to-be-created “crop_hemp3-part“.
So put the farm data window to the side, back to the Game World panel, now into the „plants“ sub-category. Find the „crop_hemp1_part“ entry and copy-as-new, re-name to “crop_hemp3-part“. We want some variety in size, but we don't wanna end up with bonsai ganj... eeh, hemp plants in a king-size planter, so we need to re-scale our plants a little bit and set the growth values to:
„scale end“ to 1,6
„scale start“ to 0,2
„scale Variance“ to 0,4
Now we go up the ladder, back to our farm data window. Remove the „ crop_hemp1-part“ & „crop_hemp2-part“ from the plants field, and replace with our new „crop_hemp3-part“. But if you loaded it into the game right now, the hemp plants would be growing all over the place in the same pattern as in the Hydroponic planter. So, we need to edit the layout:
„amount“ to 3 (or however many plants you think should fit in one planter^^)
„aspect“ to 1
„inside“ to true
„jitter“ to 0,15
„layout“ to CLUSTER
„spacing“ to 1,25
Then back up the ladder another rung to our „Hemp Planter“ building, and replace the „hemp indoor farm type“ in the farm data field with our new „hemp indoor farm type planter“. Set the planter's scale to 1,25, then finally remove the Berry Tree from the parts field, and we is done.
At least visually, that is it. How exactly the new planter works though, as in:
What research is required to get it, how much will it yield on harvest, how fast does the stuff in it grow, how much water it's gonna guzzle up, where does it go in the build menu etc etc...I leave to anyone using this guide.
In this state, it's only a re-skinned Hydroponic planter. But the particulars of the farming economy are something that yet eludes me, so I'll leave that for the user to decide and fiddle with.
Hope this works as intended for anyone using it and is clear enough for even a noob or half-Luddite like myself to understand.
One last thing: Do not ask me to make a video tutorial. It is not going to happen. Maybe I'll upload a couple screenshots for explanation, but that'll be it.
