How To Medic
The Difference Between A Medic And Somebody With A Shotgun
Now before you start saving lives you need to know the difference between being a Combat Medic and being a random guy with a shotgun. This section more applies to PVP then anything. Now before you get all angry that you can't launch people into orbit with your OP shotgun, you still get to. As a medic you should play like you normaly do but healing and reviving always come first no matter what. It is possible to balance killing and healing, you could have most kills for the match and also the most support. Support is what I call the little cog with the plus on it in the score screen. The only reason this section exists is because all too often I am looking at the final scores and see the enemy medic with a bunch of kills but didn't even heal his team once. You don't want to be that guy.
Being A Medic In Co-op
Being a medic in co-op is easy to do but easy to mess up. On most difficulties you don't have to worry much about the enemies and can easily heal your team. Don't worry if you aren't dropping every enemy that appears, you can get just as many points if you heal your team often. Always make sure your team is at max health, healing somebody at 90% health can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. On the easier difficulties you can usually distract most of the enemies and tank. With your primary being a shotgun you usually want to get up in their face so they tend to shoot at you more. But always make sure to heal your team after you clear an area. Now usually when somebody gets killed you make it your primary objective to revive them ASAP, unless they got downed somewhere you can't get to or they get downed infront of a tank or something. On the harder difficulties you want to stay with your team and not expose yourself too much. Seeing as you are the most important person on the battlefield you could change the tide of the battle with your defib and medkit.
Being A Medic In PVP
Now as a medic in PVP it all depends on the map. With a shotgun as your primary you want to keep the enemy as close to you as possible. If you try to engage somebody that isn't using a shotgun from at least 4-5 meters away they will end you, unless you are robust. The best range for the shotgun is from melee range to about 1-2 meters. At that distance you should almost always get a instant kill if you aim for center mass. One rule for engaging at melee range is not to hit them with the melee of your shotgun unless you know it will kill them instantly. If you miss your first shot at melee range for some reason you need to shoot untill you hit them, if you hit them with melee they need two hits usually to kill them thus giving them a huge opening on you while your melee recharges. Now as I previously stated, healing comes above all else. With your shotgun you can easily clear most enclosed areas for your allies, once you do so make sure that everyone is healed up. If there is a big long range battle going on make sure that you don't expose yourself too much and also heal anyone who needs it. At longer ranges people have a chance to duck behind cover if they're injured thus giving you a perfect chance to go heal them. Also, I know it is a pain to go to revive somebody and they respawn, but don't give up. You win some you lose some.
