How to not die N1-N2
1. Pretending to be jest D1
This should be self explanatory, but people do it anyways. It's fine to do a lil bit of trolling and say "I'm sk" or "I'm gf" D1 but the moment jailor jails you, don't get upset over it. He assumed correctly that you were trying to be a really obvious jest, and is going to execute you the next day if no one dies from maf/sk. As long as jailor and/or vigilante exist, this strategy is going to get you killed as maf/sk. Even if you are jest and for whatever reason think this will get you hung, it is more likely going to get you shot or executed instead. Wait for jailor to die before pulling something like this.
2. Pretending to be Jailor D1
Again, pretty self explanatory. You might think someone who posts this is trolling, but trust me, they're not. If you have two jailor claims, you temporarily confuse doc/lo on who to be on. However, you have guaranteed yourself death by the hands of the real jailor come N2. If you are sk, this is obviously not a great move since there is only one of you on your team. If you are maf/gf, while you might think this a worthy sacrifice, you are now putting your team at risk of being found out if the other murder capable person on your team is rbed. If you are framer, you have now deprived your team of much needed misinformation versus the singular act of misinformation on the jailor. If you are jest/exe... Why, just why?
3. Not claiming as Jailor D1
This might be a bit controversial for some people, and understandably so. Well, at least more so than the previous two. Let's put it this way. Would you rather have practically guaranteed protection for multiple nights, or roll the dice that by not claiming, your identity will remain secret and maf will not attack you by pure chance? If both doc and lo are on you, as is usually the strat when one claims jailor D1, instead of a 1/15 chance you will die there is now a 1/15 chance that ONE of your two protective roles will die. I don't know the calculation for the chances that BOTH die, but even then, it is just a chance that your protection will be removed. You still live for at least one more night if the maf are prioritizing other people. Plus, this means jailor can be the go-to info gatherer. As long as they are alive, med has someone to communicate to without risking them being evil. This is super useful if the escort gets lucky and rb's sk early in the game. You can also have people whisper you their roles, although this is (admittedly) hard to keep track of especially if people are feeding you info at the same time.
4. Not alerting as vet N1
Unlike your friendly neighborhood Doc, Vet has three chances to become immune to all damage. On N1 you are the most likely to be targeted as maf/sk will usually pick a random player if there is no info to go off of. This is an easy opportunity to catch some unsuspecting evils, even if you don't vet bait. As per psychological predictability, if you also happen to be in the numbers 1-3 or 13-15, there is even more of a chance you will be targeted. When people are looking for a random person to kill, they gravitate towards these numbers. Don't ask me to explain, I see it all the time and I do it as well. I'm not a psychologist. To a lesser extent this can apply to Doc but as previously mentioned since you only have one self heal, it's a bigger risk. On the other hand, you may not find an opportunity to use it later and it will come down to chance once more unless you know you are about to be attacked.
5. Never be silent
This last and final rule will not only keep you safe N1 but will help you throughout the game. It is always better to speak than let yourself be killed. If you refuse to claim your role to jailor or just flat out stay silent you are guaranteeing that he will execute you asap. The same goes when you are put on trial. 9/10 times I see this it is from a maf/sk pretending to be jest. As I pointed out in part 1, this is generally not a good idea as long as jailor/vig are alive. By remaining silent or not giving a good defense you are guaranteeing that you will be hung. In the unlikely event you ARE jest, good job. You got yourself hung. Town will not suffer for it since jailor has likely innoed for this very reason. On the other hand, you might NOT have gotten hung and now are staring down the blade of an axe as the jailor cuts off your head. Not a very smart move despite what people claim.
