Introduction

Hello.

This is a quick and easy guide on how you can run with multiple accounts on the same computer for increased loot. This guide a DD2 spin of Acen's guide for DD1.

This is basically a emulation of running the game on a laptop next to you. Thus you will need a second Steam account with the game. The rest I can help you with.

Update november 2021: The method initially described turned out to be a convoluted and inflexible way. I have since simplified the guide with a method that's easier, simpler and takes up no unnecessary space on your disk. In short I've changed it to give the sandbox-software access to your main steam library-folder. Thus updates won't break the sandboxed instances of DD2 as with the old method. Enjoy :)

Update 15th of december 2021: With the christmas update Chromatic nerfed pristine motes acquired from chaos 8. They used to drop 9 per map and are now down to 6 per map. This change is uncalled for and if you share this sentiment I recommend voicing it on their update page, which can be found here[forums.dungeondefenders.com]. All the more reason to use an alt, I guess.

Update 2024: Chromatic has now explicitly stated that only 1 alt is allowed.

Walkthrough - Steam and Sandboxie

  1. Download Sandboxie-Plus. You can find their website here [sandboxie-plus.com].
  2. Run the program and create a new sandbox. Call it Steam.
  3. Give it access to your Steam-folder in the settings tab.
  4. Right click Steam.exe (I recommend send to desktop/create shortcut from the Steam.exe. This will make it easier to run at the start of your farming session) and click "Run sandboxed". Chose your sandbox You should notice everything that runs inside a sandbox will have have # surrounding the name and will have a yellow outline when dragging the window.
  5. Log in on your second account.

Running two instances of DD2

UPDATE: This step is no longer necessary as the launcher has been removed all-together. Simply launch DD2 from the Steam window in your sandbox and it will launch properly.

This section is where the guide deviates slightly from the DD1 version. If the launcher of DD2 detects another instance of DD2 running it will not let you start up the game. If we bypass the launcher, we bypass this obstacle. Chromatic has actually provided a solution for this in their own helpdesk. You can view the thread here [chromatic.zendesk.com] if you would like to see it the whole thread. However all the solution does is execute the DunDefGame.exe, so that's all we need to do:

It's very simple.

Setup (once)

Create a shortcut for DunDefGame.exe (located in SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dungeon Defenders 2\DunDef2\Binaries\Win32) to desktop.

Launching the game (every time)

Right click the DunDefGame.exe and launch it through the sandbox. You can also use this to launch your main instance of DD2 by opening it normally.

Finishing comments

The guide-part is over. Here's some talk.

There are two main advantages of this. Firstly - double the loot. Secondly - you can use this to do AP-resets, where your 2nd account is floor 120-viable and just carries your main over and over again.

Of course I'll read comments so don't hesitate to ask a question or share your thoughts and experiences with the rest of the class. In particular if anyone has a shortcut to getting your alt into C8-games right away as playing through many low tier maps is boring.
