Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do you fast travel between The Slums and Old Town?
  • Once both areas are story-unlocked, go to your bedroom in the Tower and interact with the poster on the wall. That's it. You'll warp to Old Town instantly. The game never explains this exists. To travel back, find the equivalent poster in your Old Town safe house. It only becomes available after reaching Old Town naturally through the main story.

Q. Do Quarantine Zones show up on the map automatically?
  • No. They stay hidden until you physically wander close to one, then a biohazard icon appears. There are 8 in the base game: 5 in the Slums, 3 in Old Town. The Cuisine and Cargo DLC adds one more to each area. Clearing all 8 base-game zones earns the "Trespassing" achievement.

Q. What loot drops from police vans, and are they worth the trouble?
  • Yes. Police vans use Very Hard locks, so bring at least 7 lockpicks before approaching one. Inside you'll commonly find Police Rifles, pistols, and purple or orange quality melee weapons. Clear the Biters and Virals clustered nearby before cracking them open. The bridge near the Harbor in the Slums has over 10 vans grouped together, making it one of the best early farming routes in the game.

Q. Is The Countryside only accessible if you own The Following DLC?
  • Yes. The Countryside is exclusive to Dying Light: The Following expansion and runs as a completely separate campaign, launched from a different option in the main menu. It's roughly twice the combined size of the Slums and Old Town, which is why the Buggy exists. Any gear earned in the base game carries over when you jump in.

Q. How do you get back to the Antenna area after finishing the story?
  • Use the door in the northern part of the Slums or the sewer entrance in northern Old Town. The Antenna is a small map with no safe zones, centered around a 125-meter radio tower. Not a lot going on there, but the Airstrike blueprint and a handful of collectibles make it worth at least one return visit. There's also a Plants vs. Zombies easter egg hidden in the area.

Q. Do Volatile Nest locations appear on your Countryside map from the start?
  • No. Volatile Nest icons only populate your map after the in-game tutorial triggers, which happens the first time you wander close to one. After that, all known nests show up. It's one of the main reasons the Danger filter on the Countryside interactive map is useful early on, before the game decides to show them to you.
