Summary

Kenshi doesn't hold your hand. There's no quest marker guiding you across the map, no minimap pinging nearby threats, and no tutorial that tells you the Fog Islands will eat your squad alive if you wander in at level 5. The interactive map covers the entire world of Kenshi, with filters for cities, towns, settlements, ruins, ancient labs, Lost Armouries, mines, faction territories, zone boundaries, resource nodes, and more. The world is split into dozens of distinct zones, each with its own soil types, weather hazards, fauna, and faction control. Three major factions dominate the map: The Holy Nation controls the fertile central-western territory around Okran's Pride and fields the largest army in the game, the United Cities (the "Empire") holds the most land area with nine major cities scattered across the Great Desert and southern territories, and the Shek Kingdom clings to survival around Admag and Squin in the Stenn Desert region. Beyond those, you've got Tech Hunters operating out of World's End and Flats Lagoon, Swamp gangs running Shark, Cannibals overrunning the northwest, and hostile zones like the Ashlands and Venge that will kill you through sheer environmental damage alone. Whether you're scouting a base location with good iron and copper access, mapping a safe trade route between Squin and the Waystation, or trying to figure out which ancient ruin has the Engineering Research you need, this map is your reference. We update it whenever new filters or features get added.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many zones are there in Kenshi?
There are dozens. Some of the more well-known ones include the Border Zone (a contested buffer between Holy Nation and Shek territory), Okran's Pride (the Holy Nation heartland), the Great Desert (United Cities core), The Swamp, Fog Islands, Venge, the Ashlands, Cannibal Plains, and Stobe's Gamble. Each zone has unique environmental conditions, fauna, and faction spawns, so crossing from one into another can completely change what threats you're dealing with.
Which major factions control territory on the map?
Three big ones. The Holy Nation controls the fertile western-central regions like Okran's Pride, Okran's Valley, and Okran's Gulf, and has the highest population of any faction thanks to all that farmable land. The United Cities are the largest by land area with major cities like Heft (the capital), Heng, Stoat, and Catun spread across the desert and southern coast. The Shek Kingdom is the smallest and weakest of the three, mostly concentrated around Admag and Squin, and is basically one bad war away from collapse.
What are Lost Armouries and how do I find them?
Lost Armouries are ancient ruins that hold some of the best weapons and armor in the game. You discover their locations by reading Ancient Military Documents, which you can find inside other ancient ruins, labs, and libraries. The armouries themselves are scattered across dangerous zones like the Cannibal Plains, Deadlands, Greyshelf, and Shun, and they often have extremely high-level locks with Security Spiders guarding them. Bring a character with strong Stealth and Lockpicking if you want to survive.
Does the map show resource nodes for base building?
Yes, depending on which version you use. Fertility, iron quality, copper quality, water access, and stone availability are all visible on resource overlay maps. Iron and copper proximity is probably the single most important factor when picking a base location, since low-quality nodes mean slower production and more time exposed to raids. Zones like the Border Zone near Squin offer decent access to both metals with relatively manageable threats compared to somewhere like Shem or the Outlands.
How does the world state system affect the map?
Kenshi has a reactive world state system where killing or kidnapping key faction leaders can permanently change the political landscape. If the Holy Nation's Phoenix dies, their military crumbles and Fogmen can overrun Okran's Gulf. If both Seta and Valtena fall, the Flotsam Ninjas or Shek Kingdom can move into former Holy Nation territory. Towns can change ownership, new settlements can spawn, and entire regions can shift faction control. The map reflects the default world state, but your playthrough might look very different.
What are some of the most dangerous zones on the map?
Venge has literal laser beams from the sky that can kill unprotected characters. The Ashlands are home to Security Spiders and Cat-Lon's Exile, one of the most dangerous locations in the game. The Fog Islands are swarming with Fogmen who kidnap downed characters and carry them to poles to be eaten alive. Cannibal Plains are self-explanatory. And Gut is an extremely hostile area with Beak Things that can one-shot weaker characters. The interactive map helps you see exactly where these zones border safer territory so you know where the danger starts.
Are ancient labs and libraries marked on the map?
Yes. Ancient Labs, Lab Ruins, Lost Libraries, and other Second Empire remnants are all filterable. These locations are where you find rare blueprints, Ancient Science Books, and Engineering Research needed for late-game tech progression. Many of them sit deep inside hostile zones and are guarded by Security Spiders or Blood Spiders. In-game, you can also buy Tech Hunters Maps from shops in places like World's End or Black Scratch to reveal some of these locations on your own map.
Where should a new player start exploring?
The Border Zone is the classic beginner area. The Hub is a free town with no faction hassling you, and Squin is nearby with shops, bars, and recruitable characters. Hungry Bandits and Dust Bandits in the area are low-level enough to train against without getting your entire squad killed. From there, the path toward Holy Nation territory (Okran's Pride) is relatively safe if you're a male Greenlander, while heading east toward Shek lands or south toward the Swamp opens up different trade routes and recruitment options.
