KOTOR Simple Setup & Config Guide
Getting Started...
Whilst with most games it’s as easy as taking candy from a baby to get started, in KOTOR it’s a pain in the ass.
If when you load up KOTOR it crashes on start-up, there are two options:
- Disable Movies
OR - Use Windowed Mode
Personally I would choose windowed mode as it means you still get to see all the cut scenes and avoids the game crashing when you edit graphics options in game, but it’s your decision.
Disabling Movies
A simple fix!
- Go to the local game files (Usually at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\swkotor), if you have trouble finding them then right click on the game in your stream library, select properties and then select ‘BROWSE LOCAL FILES’ under the local files tab.
- Open the swkotor configuration file (swkotor.ini).
Disable Movies=0
under '[Game Options]' and change it to: Disable Movies=1
- Save the changes you have made to the file and KOTOR should run successfully, all be it without cut scenes.
Using Windowed Mode
Easy peasy!
FullScreen=1
under '[Graphics Options]' and change it to: FullScreen=0
then also add the line: AllowWindowedMode=1
- Save the changes you have made to the file and KOTOR should run successfully, you may need to press Alt + Enter to make the game become windowed when it loads up.
