Map With no Map
Intro
I made this because I saw a lot of comments on a map,
this map specifically, which is also the map used in my examples:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1418342960 Talking about how the map is broken.
It was, in fact, not broken.
If you're using this map, or a different map that's completely dark, I'll be talking about this issue and how to fix it in this guide.
Main Issue
Possibility 1 - No Lights
The problem could be simple; There are no lights on the map.
In either case, you should right click on the viewport and select Enable Lights, and make sure that there is NOT a white check mark next to the option like in the image below.
Doing so will disable lights, as well as the lack of them, giving you something like this.
This is because the map might not have lights.
To fix this, you can simply add lights in SFM which will require you to re-add them later when using the map again in a different session.
You could also add them in Hammer (which I don't know anything about besides that it's a map editor) which should add them more permanently, but might be considerably more difficult if you don't know how to use the software.
Possibility 2 - Wrong Direction
Just like before, you need to disable lights for this issue. This will make the map easier to see.
This issue is easier to deal with, but still an issue regardless. If you can't see your map already, look up, down, etc. You may be outside of the map.
It will likely look like this (but with your map if you aren't using the one I linked to earlier), if that's the case:
Once you find it, simply move over to the map.
Conclusion
I hope that this guide helped you figure out what was wrong with your map!
Please remember that this is my FIRST and likely only guide, so excuse me if my wording was strange. I'm no professional, nor do I actually use the software often.
The issues mentioned were simply ones that I had experienced before; it is possible that there are other things that could cause a map to be completely dark that I haven't seen.
Thanks for reading! :)
