Introduction

If you're like me, you probably went through Chapter 1 of Thief thinking that you had been pretty thorough, and then realizing you'd missed ten pieces of loot when you finished the level. As a result, I've combed the level thoroughly to find every single one. For those of you who need a helping hand, I've put together this handy guide.

A disclaimer: I recommend only using this guide if you absolutely can't find a piece of loot. Finding each piece by yourself gives you a great sense of accomplishment!

At any time, you can check your loot progress by opening the Journal, going to Character Progression, and selecting Statistics.

What Counts as Loot?

Loot, as defined by the game, is anything that Garrett can pick up which has a monetary value attached to it. This means that arrows, food, and the like do NOT count as loot.

This DOES mean, however, that single coins lying on the ground do count as pieces of loot. Be very careful about those- they're extremely easy to miss.

In addition, items carried by NPCs which can be pickpocketed do not count as loot.

Stonemarket- Enclosure, Traitorsgate, and Backway

Enclosure:
Upon entering the level, run straight ahead to find two pieces of loot. There is also your first newspaper, if you're going for 100% completion.
  1. Flask, 4g
  2. Gear, 3g
    Newspaper: Benefits of Strict Curfew
    Total Items: 2

Note: Make sure to grab these two pieces of loot before proceeding, as dropping down into the next area makes the previous area inaccessible.

Traitorsgate:
3) Gear, 3g
  1. Coin Purse, 12g (Inside the house)
5-6) Coin, 1g (There are two coins on the ground near the second guard, near the wall to the Backway.)
Collectible 1: Ametheyst Circle is very easy to miss. It's by the foot of the cart near the second guard, in the middle of a lit area. Make sure to be very quick about grabbing it, or you'll be detected.
Document 1: Lockdown Regulations can be pickpocketed from one of the guards.
    Total Items: 4
Backway
7) Gear, 3g (This piece is hidden on a balcony overlooking the man inspecting the body.)
  1. Pen, 4g
  2. Candlestick, 6g (After unlocking the metal door, close it again before moving on to grab this piece of loot.)
    Total Items: 3

Note: Before leaving the Backway, make sure that you've already picked up loot #1-7. After Garrett mentions that the Claw is much quieter than he thought, the previous parts of the level become inaccessible.

Stonecutter's Court and Underpass

Stonecutter's Court
Despite being a large, open area, Stonecutter's Court actually has very little loot.
  1. Coin, 1g (This coin is on top of a crate in the middle of the street.)
  2. Knife, 2g (This knife sits on the table near the guard who stands by himself near the gate.)
    Total Items: 2
Stonecutter's Court East
12) Coin, 1g (This coin is on the ground near a support beam.)
  1. Coin, 1g (You'll find this coin in a bird's nest on a balcony. Look for a place to climb up with the Claw, and jump across the gap right above #12.)
    Total Items: 2
Stonecutter's Court West
There are no pieces of loot here. Enjoy this area stress-free! :)
Total Items: 0
Underpass
14) Coin Purse, 7g (Be careful with this one. If you are coming from East, the coin purse will be hidden by the door that you have just opened.)
Newspaper: Clock Tower Stops Again!
Total Items: 1

Now that you've finished up outside, it's time to head into the Jeweler's, where the REAL stealing begins.

Serendi Jewelers

Cellar
Assuming you went through the back door from Stonecutter's Court West like I did, you should end up in the cellar. Lyegrove is here, but as long as you're careful, he won't notice you robbing him blind.
  1. Pile of Coins, 5g
  2. Bracelet, 8g
  3. Cup, 2g
  4. Ink Bottle, 3g
  5. Letter Opener, 3g (This one is tricky! Only open the bottom-left drawer of Lyegrove's worktable. There's nothing in any of the others, and it's very risky.)
    Document 2: Lyegrove's Letter
Collectible 2: Lyegrove's Jewelled Mask (The safe is hidden behind a painting in the same room. It has a three digit lock, the combination for which is hidden in Lyegrove's Letter. The combination is 739.)
    Total Items: 5
Shop (Main Floor)
20-38) These pieces are in the display cases in the showroom, where the guard patrols. Don't forget to break open the cash register and grab the single coin on the floor! There are 19 items total here.
Collectible 3: Jewelled Mask (Inside one of the window cases- it's the only one with a lock.)

There's also a lot of loot in the side room, where a guard sleeps in front of the wall safe.

  1. Cup, 2g
  2. Pile of Coins, 5g (in drawer)
  3. Ink Bottle, 3g (in drawer)
  4. Candlestick, 6g
  5. Letter Opener, 3g
  6. Coin, 1g
  7. Pile of Coins, 20g (safe)
Collectible 4: Sootback Bracelet is in the wall safe. Be careful, as this lock is extremely sensitive, and messing up even once will wake up the sleeping guard.

There are yet more pieces of loot scattered around the halls.

  1. Letter Opener, 3g
  2. Candlestick, 6g
  3. Candlestick, 6g (in armoire)
  4. Ink Bottle, 3g (in armoire)
  5. Ink Bottle, 3g (Make sure not to miss this one! You can get this piece by climbing onto the rafters from the showroom using the claw. Look for the little grates on either side.)
    Total Items: 31
Residence (Top Floor)
Just be thorough here, and you shouldn't have trouble finding anything. Make sure to watch out for the bird, which will squawk if you move too quickly!
  1. Cup, 2g
  2. Cup, 2g
  3. Pile of Coins, 5g
  4. Letter Opener, 3g
  5. Cup, 6g
  6. Pile of Coins, 5g
  7. Cup, 2g
  8. Hairbrush, 4g
  9. Cup, 2g
  10. Earrings, 12g
Newspaper: Who Watches the Watch Hounds?
    Total Items: 10

Before jumping out the window, make sure you've gotten all 60 pieces of loot. You can't go back after leaving, and there are no pieces of loot in the rest of the level.

Bonus: After you jump out the window, make sure to check out the last newspaper.
Newspaper: Lockdown!

Closing

After finishing up the level, you should see the achievement pop up there in the corner. Good work!

I hope that my guide has been helpful. As this is my first guide, please leave any comments or helpful criticism below!
