The double barrel in my opinion is the hardest hitting weapon in the game with the narrowest spread. It allows you to dominate close encounters and hallways. Any close space between you and the enemy is enough room for you to neutralize, reload (it only has 2 shots) and repeat. Playing it safe and knowing your damage is enough of a strat to be able to 2 shot your enemies and the worst case looking like you'll need to use the bottom of your boot incase they charge at you. If the 2 shots didn't instantly kill them. Your boot will do the trick.
