Introduction

What is this?
This is not a guide, but rather a collection of different army setups that I have used and developed throughout my 1000 hours of competitive multiplayer gameplay.

How can this help me?
An experienced player can easily see at the start of a game if he'll easily overrun his enemy, or if he'll actually have to fight for his victory. Armies that contain grenadier units, too many fencibles or heavy cavalry, or a spam of any unit in general, is normally in favour of losing. The right army setup will win you the battle, if both parties are equally familiar with the game mechanics.

Picking the right army is simply put the first yet most important step to winning your battle.

Can I use these army setups?
Anyone is allowed to use these army setups.

Great!, but what about the rules people always complain about?
All army setups in this guide take regard to the standard rules set: No artillery, max 5 light infantry/skirmishers, max 6 shooter cavalry and no buildings.

Short explanation: The artillery rule is put in place to make sure people move/don't camp, and allows for more tactical thinking. A maximum of 5 lights ensures both parties that it won't just be a shootout as with the artillery. Shooter cavalry is simply overpowered, and is hence limited.

Buildings are so overpowered without artillery that they also kill a lot of fun.

Additional information
If you wish to submit/add one of your own personal setups; PM me on Steam.

PS: Do not use these army setups on Grassy Flatlands. They simply won't work on that map.

Introduction to Army Presentations

Numbering
The amount of units you need to select is written as: x (x); like so: one (1) Foot, meaning you should select one Foot unit for your army, if that is the case. If a unit does not have a number in front of it, it is probably a DLC unit, which there normally only is one of.

An image of each army is also shown below, with a small box of text to help you with how you should be going about with using that army.

And without further adue; here they are:

Austria

  • 9 star general, five (5) Grenzers, Archduke's Charles Legion, 47th (Czech) Regiment, 1st Regiment Emperor's Own, five (5) German Fusiliers, four (4) Uhlans and the 1st Hussars

Short explanation: Play aggressively; Austria will not win a shooting battle. Your 4 uhlans shouldn't be underestimated, and will (if used properly) deal a lot of damage!

  • 6 star general, five (5) Grenzers, Archduke's Charles Legion, 47th (Czech) Regiment, 1st Regiment Emperor's Own, four (4) German Fusiliers, four (4) Uhlans and two (2) Dragoons, one (1) Landwehr

Short explanation: Play aggressively; Austria will not win a shooting battle. Your 4 uhlans shouldn't be underestimated, and will (if used properly) deal a lot of damage!

Great Britain

  • 3 star general, two (2) King's German Legion Light Foot, three (3) Light Foot, three (3) Fencibles, Coldstream Guards, five (5) Foot, 88th Foot "Connaught Rangers", King's German Legion Foot, three (3) dragoons

Short explanation: British fencibles are not too bad at shooting, make use of this fact! Your cavalry should only support your infantry/light infantry and unlike the Austrians, not be used to flank your opponent. Make sure to create a firewall; Britain's strength lays in gunning its enemies down.

  • General staff, two (2) King's German Legion Light Foot, three (3) Light Foot, two (2) Fencibles, Coldstream Guards, two (2) Foot Guards, 88th foot "Connaught Rangers", four (4) Foot, three (3) Dragoons

Short explanation: British fencibles are not too bad at shooting, make use of this fact! Your cavalry should only support your infantry/light infantry and unlike the Austrians, not be used to flank your opponent. Make sure to create a firewall; Britain's strength lays in gunning its enemies down.

Denmark

  • 3 star general, five (5) Sharpshooters, three (3) Life Guards of Foot, five (5) Line Infantry, two (2) Militia, three (3) Dragoons

Short explanation: Use the range advantage of your sharpshooters, and make sure to focus the opponent's infantry with it! Once the enemy is beaten down enough; you can advance. Your cavalry should play a supportive role, like with the British.

France

  • General staff, five (5) Chasseurs, three (3) Old Guard, four (4) Swiss Foot, 18th Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne "The Brave", four (4) Chasseurs à Cheval

Short explanation: Unlike with the previously mentioned factions, France's cavalry should definitely be used to flank. The Chasseurs à Cheval unit is probably the most overpowered unit in the game for its price. I'd recommend slowly approaching your enemy until you're close enough to commence a full on attack. Never keep reserves, use every unit for what it is worth!

  • General staff, three (3) Voltiguers, two (2) Chasseurs, three (3) Old Guard, four (4) Swiss Foot, one (1) National Guard, five (5) Chasseurs à Cheval

Ottomans

  • 9 star general, two (2) Siphai Cavalry, four (4) Mounted Nizam-I Cedit, three (3) Nizam-I Cedit Light Infantry, six (6) Nizam-I Cedit Infantry, two (2) Cemaat Janissaries with two chevrons each, one (1) Cemaat Janissaries with one chevron and one (1) Bashi Bazouks with three chevrons

Short explanation: Your lights are just there to provoke the enemy. Your infantry serves as a meatshield for your melee units (janissaries and bazouks) and cavalry to attack. Cemaat Janissaries can easily challenge and beat Old Guards in melee if used properly!

  • 6 star general, one (1) Siphai Cavalry, one (1) Silahtar Guard, four (4) Mounted Nizam-I Cedit, three (3) Nizam-I Cedit Light Infantry, six (6) Nizam-I Cedit Infantry, two (2) Cemaat Janissaries with two chevrons each and two (2) Cemaat Janissaries with one chevron each

Short explanation: Your lights are just there to provoke the enemy. Your infantry serves as a meatshield for your melee units (janissaries and bazouks) and cavalry to attack. Cemaat Janissaries can easily challenge and beat Old Guards in melee if used properly!

Portugal

  • 9 star general, five (5) Cazadores, eight (8) Infantry, two (2) Militia with one chevron each, four (4) Portuguese Cavalry

Short explanation: The Cazadores are the best light infantry unit in the game. They alone decide whether you win or lose the battle. Keep them alive at all costs! If you're fighting on grassy flatlands, it's worth considering switching them with the 125 ranged skirmishers. Never use your cavalry as independent flanking units. Use them to bait or charge enemy lights/skirmishers.

Prussia

  • 3 star general, five (5) Prussian Fusiliers, one (1) Landwehr, three (3) Foot Guards, six (6) Musketeers, Luetzow's Freikorps, (one) 1 Lancers, Towarczys

Short explanation: Use your cavalry as support and let your infantry and light infantry do the main work. Watch your morale, though.

  • General staff, five (5) Prussian Fusiliers, one (1) Landwehr, three (3) Foot Guards, 8th Life Regiment, five (5) Musketeers, Luetzow's Freikorps, one (1) Lancers, Towarczys

Short explanation: Use your cavalry as support and let your infantry and light infantry do the main work. Watch your morale, though.

Russia

  • 3 star general, two (2) Russian Jägers, 17th Jäger Regiment, two (2) Opelchenie, Semenovski Lifeguard, three (3) Lifeguard Foot, Moscow Musketeers, two (2) Musketeers, two (2) Mounted Rifles, one (1) Hussars, three (3) Uhlans

Short explanation: Use your light infantry and opelchenie to preoccupy your opponent as you advance your lifeguards and cavalry. Don't be afraid to charge; your infantry has a charge bonus!

  • General staff, two (2) Russian Jägers, 17th Jäger Regiment, three (3) Opelchenie, Semenovski Lifeguard, three (3) Lifeguard Foot, Moscow Musketeers, two (2) Musketeers, one (1) Mounted Rifles, two (2) Hussars, three (3) Uhlans

Short explanation: Use your light infantry and opelchenie to preoccupy your opponent as you advance your lifeguards and cavalry. Don't be afraid to charge; your infantry has a charge bonus!

Spain

  • 9 star general, Tiradores de Cantabria, Cazadores de Cataluña with one chevron, Voluntarios de la Coruña with one chevron, Lanceros de Castilla with one chevron, Husares de Valpenas with one chevron, Cazadores Voluntarios de Madrid with one chevron, two (2) Walloon Guards, one (1) Provincial Militia with one chevron, five (5) Fusiliers, one (1) Light Infantry, two (2) Lanceros, one (1) Dragoons, one (1) Coraceros Españoles with one chevron

Short explanation: Use the terrain advantage or be destroyed. Use units as meatshields and push with others. I don't recommend playing Spain to new(er) players.

Sweden

  • General staff with one chevron, five (5) Jägers, three (3) Life Guards of Foot, five (5) Line Infantry, one (1) Militia, five (5) Mounted Jägers

Short explanation: A better general is advisable, but doesn't work with how I build up my armies. On Grassy Flatlands I'd recommend a better one, less Jägers and more Mounted Jägers.

United Provinces

  • 9 star general, five (5) Dutch Flanquers, eight (8) Infantry, one (1) Militiamen, two (2) Carabiniers, one (1) Hussars, two (2) Chevauxlégers

Short explanation: The Dutch are by far probably one of the hardest nations to do good with. They have no particular strength, and are lacking in morale. Play as it to test yourself.

Final Words

Time to impress
And that's my army setups. You of course need to alter them slightly depending on who you are fighting (what faction) and on what terrain. Never underestimate the element of surprise, though. Anyway, good luck fighting and don't bring my army setups to shame!

If you have any additional questions, etc.; feel free to contact me on Steam.

See you on the battlefield!

PS: This was a small project done for all those who always whine at me for needing army setups.
