Pyrlock: Pyromancer Warlock mage build

Introduction

Having reached level 60 on a preset build like Flamecaller, your next step may be moving to a custom build like the one described here.

Optimized macros allows you to focus on the battlefield and movement instead of keeping track of your whole spell rotation. And compared to the Flamecaller preset this build should increase your damage.

As this guide is oriented towards leveling we have a macro to self heal from lv 65. See the section Level 70 if you want some extra damage instead of self healing.

An advanced (not very newbie friendly) guide to the Pyromancer Warlock build can be found here[forums.thegharstation.com]

Requirements

Level
  • Recommended Level 60+ mage spending your Mastery and Legendary Points (see Soul tree section) as you level up. Planar Attunement spent in the Dusk tree is recommended (see Setting up macros section).

  • It it possible to use this build from Level 1 but you will see a lot chat log warnings when the macros are trying to use unknown abilities. Primarily spend soul points in the Pyromancer tree as you level up.

Addons
  • Installing the Removebuff addon[www.cadrift.net] is highly recommended or you will see a lot chat log warnings. How to install addons[www.cadrift.net]
If you want to try the build without this addon see the Setting up macros section.

How to play

Hotbar
Key binding F1 - F4 to the hotbar as the image above shows is highly recommended for easy access to all macros during movement.

Mage Armor
Always keep the Pyromancer's Armor active. This may seem obvious, but keep an eye on it as some elite bosses may actually remove it.

Eight Macros
All macros starts with removal of any control and movement impairing effects. If triggered, press again for the macro to continue.

Shield
Activates the pyromancer absorption shield. Should always be active. Lasts 30 sec.

Healme
Cast Phantom Stream mastery skill on yourself to fully heal. Cooldown 1 min.

Volley
Cast Flame Volley on enemy, dealing damage while you move. Cooldown 1min.

Storm
Cast Fire Storm centered on your current target. Always keep this on the center mob when fighting multiple enemies. The mobs caught in your Fire Storm will take 30% extra damage from other fire spells. The spam macro below casts Countdown that will spread to other mobs caught in your Fire Storm for massive damage. Lasts 30 sec. Cooldown 8 sec.

Dark
Cast Dark Touch on enemy, and through the Healing Expertise mastery, also casts Neddra's Grasp and Life Leech. These powerful warlock spells deal damage, increase your damage to the enemy 20% and give you some healing. This should be cast on every enemy you fight, and ideally be recast every 10 second. Perfect for getting the attention of a single enemy, drawing it away from nearby mobs so you can safely cast your Fire Storm. Instant. Lasts 10 sec.

Fusill
This macro is very important for maximizing your damage. It manages Heat Wave and casts your strongest spell Fusillade. Always recast Dark before using this. This should be pressed twice at start and twice as soon its cooldown has passed. Let the Fusillade cast complete fully before doing anything else.

First press manages Heat Wave, second press cast Fusillade, putting both on cooldown and removing the Heat Wave buff. The Fireball in your spam macros below will deal 75% extra damage over time when this is done properly.

Here we use the Removebuff addon instead of the standard cancelbuff macro command (see Requirements section) to avoid chat log warnings. Cooldown 1 min.

Spam macros

Here we try to cast several spells sequentially. Whenever a spell is not on cooldown it will be cast, putting it on cooldown and letting the next spell be cast. Just spam the macro and recast the macros above as needed.

Nocind
This is your starting spam macro, without Cinder Burst. Since Cinder Burst have such long (5 sec) cast time, we better wait until the reactive pops, making it instant. When it pops, switch to spamming the Cind macro instead. If the reactive seems slow to pop you probably need to reactivate your Pyromancer's Armor.

Cind
This is your main spam macro, with Cinder Burst. As long as you keep spamming this macro, the Cinder Burst reactive should pop and instantly fire. If you stop spamming for a while the Cinder Burst may go into the 5 sec cast, abort it by moving or jumping then switch back to the Nocind spam.

Suggested rotation

Shield
Dark > Fusill (Heat Wave) > Fusill (Fusillade) > Storm
Dark > Nocind (keep spamming until Cinder Burst reactive pops, press Dark every 5-10 sec)
Dark > Cind (main spam, press Dark every 5-10 sec, press Fusill twice every 60 sec, recast Shield and Storm as needed)

Setting up macros

Macro editor
Simply copy/paste each macro below into a new slot in the macro editor, save and drag the macro icon to your hotbar. You will find the Macro editor in the System icon menu or by pressing Esc.

The Fading Light ability on the third line of every macro is earned by spending Planar Attunement points in the Dusk tree. If you don't have this ability yet you should remove the line from every macro to avoid chat log warnings.

If you don't have the Removebuff addon and won't care about chat log warnings, you should change the sixth line in the Fusill macro to cancelbuff Heat Wave

Level 70

Arcane Manipulation

If you feel confident enough to go without the self heal macro, you could switch the mastery skill Phantom Stream to Arcane Manipulation to do about 10% extra damage.

You will have to insert the following line into the Nocind and Cind spam macros. The line should be placed between cast Elemental Forces and cast Countdown

cast @self Arcane Manipulation

Reliquary of Ingenuity

This apothecary crafted item increases your chance to critical hit by about 6% for 15 sec. It should be activated just before you pull off your strongest spells. The cooldown is 3 min. So best place to activate it would be in the Fusill macro. You will have to press Fusill three times to cast it all. Insert the following line just before cast Fusillade

use Reliquary of Ingenuity

Caution: Having more than one of this item in your bag could make them all soul bound when activated from the hotbar or in a macro.
