A compatible collection of enhancements that don’t alter gameplay (KotoR) (HD) (2016)

Hello internet! So I’ve been testing & playing around in KotoR for about fifteen hours with a collection of mods designed to bring this classic title from 2003 more up to date. (as well as correcting issues exclusive to the pc version) The only stipulation I really had on selecting them was that I didn’t want the game play modified. (classes, skills, or equipment changed, etc.) It’s been 13 years since I’ve played through the game & I wanted that original experience again. Though for anyone who’s joined me in purchasing the steam copy, you already know it did not age well on the PC. Thanks to the list below I’ve been able to recreate a wonderful experience & while I'm enjoying the game again I thought I’d share.

Since I’m actually playing through it, I haven’t had a chance to personally verify every possible compatibility yet. Though I’ve been very diligent in my sourcing of information about issues beforehand utilizing the; DeadlyStream[deadlystream.com], NexusMods[www.nexusmods.com], ModDB, & LucasForums[www.lucasforums.com] communities. It’s been solid so far, the only crashes experienced at all have been with Flawless Widescreen & not the modifications used. I will most certainly update this thread if anything changes as I complete the game. Thankfully even with these upgrades the game itself doesn't have much for system requirements in today's age. I'm enjoying it on a Lenovo W530 laptop while traveling & it plays in 1080p @ 60FPS.

I want to say upfront I take zero credit for these modifications. They were all done by awesome individuals that deserve the accolades. Because of this I’ve not prepackaged anything & have linked to each project separately. I'd personally like to thank everybody that's worked on these over the years as they've really made a difference in resurrecting this title. All total it's about 1.5GB worth of downloads, once installed your /override/ folder will be just about double that sitting right below 3GB. Not a small amount of modifications but nothing that will take you more than five minutes to install once you have it all downloaded. Mainly just a bunch of buttons to press & some c/v's to execute.

• Restoration 1.1[www.nexusmods.com] (restores & corrects vast parts of the game that went unreleased/unfinished)
• Ultimate (replaces almost all the environmental textures)
• Ultimate Sound[deadlystream.com] (increases sound variety & restores classic sounds from the movies)
• Old Republic Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com] (beautifully overhauls Taris, Dantooine, & Tatooine. make sure to download all the packages plus updates)
• High Quality Stars & Nebulas[www.nexusmods.com] (replaces starfield & nebula textures used as backdrops)
• High Quality Skyboxes[www.nexusmods.com] (replaces every skybox, almost every backdrop, adds fog, sun glow, animated Manaan underwater, & more)
• Fixed Proficiency/Focus Icons[deadlystream.com] (corrects the weapon Proficiency/Focus icon debacle)
• Fixed Energy Shields[deadlystream.com] (corrects inappropriate damage blocking & shield values)
• Fixed Disappearing Bodies[deadlystream.com] (this prevents bodies from fading away unless you leave the module in memory or load a saved game)
• Fixed Dantooine Training Sabers[www.nexusmods.com] (fixes the training sequences to use lightsabers as in the actual movies)
• Fixed Manaan Quest Endings[deadlystream.com] (fixes the darkside path quests on Manaan and allows them to end properly)
• Fixed Sandpeople Disguises[www.nexusmods.com] (fixes the light side disguises that are completely missing from the PC version)
• Fixed Galaxy Map & Icons[www.nexusmods.com] (restores the positions of the planets on the galaxy map to roughly their canonical positions & sizes. New icons)
• HK-47 Droid Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com] (complete rework from the ground up of the HK-47 droid making his appearance closer to SWTOR)
• Ajunta Pall Overhaul[deadlystream.com] (unique appearance for the spirit replacing the generic enemy clone he defaults to)
• Weapons Overhaul[www.lucasforums.com] (replaces almost every weapon, completely redone models & textures. Adds new models for unique variants, etc.)
• Weapons Overhaul Rework (fixes errors with the original overhaul & expands it to rework all the icons as well)
• Crixler's Lightsaber Rework[deadlystream.com] (numerous lightsaber graphical enhancements; flicker cores, unique variations, corrected icons, etc)
• HD Beam Effects[www.nexusmods.com] (replaces the Force Drain, Force Lightning, Death Field, Cold Ray, Ion, & Neural Pacifier effects)
• HD Fire & Ice[www.nexusmods.com] (replaces weapon, force, & environmental effects plus stops ice from looking like unnaturally glowing saran wrap)

So over fifteen hours I've had exactly three crashes to desktop. I've researched Flawless Widescreen is to blame for these & it seems the most logical culprit in my testing. Before it'll go down I'll noticed textures missing across the expanded resolution. Any attempt to save the game at this point will crash it on the spot. It will also nuke the save slot right out of existence, leaving it named "old game data" with zero time played & no characters in the party screen. A warning: this can happen on your auto-save from entering a new area if everything has already starting going south on you. Soooo while it's a rare occurrence, you are going to want to keep lots of save files going as backups.

Overall the list above represents the newest & best done modifications (that are also all compatible with each other) that I can find. If anyone else has mods I should be checking out or has found any compatibility issues I've missed then by all means please let me know. Enjoy! :)
