Character Unlock Guide

Cain can be unlocked by carrying 55 coins at one time.

Tips to unlock: Try not to spend money in shops or arcades while attempting to unlock Cain.

Use the 2 of Diamonds when you have a large amount of coins (preferably 28 or more), rather than with a low amount.

Cain starts off with:

Lucky Foot: All pills will have positive effects, increases chance of getting items from poop, fire and golden chests, increases chance of winning the Skull arcade game

Magdalene can be unlocked by having 7 red Heart Containers at one time.

Tips to unlock: Check secret rooms on each floor, as they may have health raising items.

Raw Liver and Bucket of Lard are useful for unlocking Maggy as they both give 2 Heart Containers.

Magdalene starts off with:

Yum Heart: Every 4 rooms, you may press the spacebar to regain one red Heart.

Eve can be unlocked by doing 2 Deals with the Devil in one playthrough.

Tips to unlock: Devil Rooms are spawned randomly after boss fights. They have a higher chance of appearing if you don't take much damage during the fight.

Deals with the Devil cost red Heart Containers, so make sure you have at least 3, as deals can cost up to 2 heart containers, and Eve will still unlock, even if the deal kills you.

Eve starts off with:

♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon: As long as you have only half of your last red Heart Container remaining (Spirit Hearts don't count) you will turn into the ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon, which raises your Damage and Speed, until you leave a room with more than half a red Heart.

Dead Bird: When you get attacked, the bird will fly around the room attacking enemies.

Samson can be unlocked by defeating Mom after skipping 2 Item Rooms.

Tips to unlock: You may like to skip the item rooms in the basement floors, as they are simple without items, or on the depths 2, as it is the same floor Mom is on.

The Item Rooms CAN be entered, but the item may not be picked up. You may wish to skip an item room because the item inside is not very useful.

Samson starts off with:

Bloody Lust: Increases your damage after each enemy killed FOR THE CURRENT ROOM ONLY.

Judas can be unlocked by defeating the Mom's Heart boss in the Womb 2.

Tips to unlock: Mom's Heart can be easily damaged by bombs, and the enemies it spawns are not very powerful.

It may be easier to unlock this character in the Doctor's Revenge challenge (after some practice) due to the infinite amount of bombs available.

Judas starts off with:

The Book of Belial: Doubles your damage for one room, recharges after 2 rooms.

??? can be unlocked by defeating the It Lives boss in the Womb 2.

Tips to unlock: It Lives can spawn, as well as the measly enemies Mom's Heart creates, some bosses such as Chub and Monstro. This can make the fight a bit more difficult, but not by very much.

Just like with Judas, this can also more easily be obtained in the Doctor's Revenge challenge. However, you may wish not to use this challenge if you feel you need to build up some skills.

??? starts off with:

3 Spirit Hearts: I didn't mention things like this in the other characters lists, but I need to mention it here: ???'s only form of health is Spirit Hearts: collecting regular health raising items will give you one spirit heart instead. This character is a more challenging version of Isaac, also seen in the item he carries.

The Poop: Creates a poop, exactly like the ones all over the entire game. Can be used once per room.

You may have noticed Isaac does not start off with an item. However, you can obtain an item for him called The Dice, or more commonly, the D6.

The D6 can be unlocked by defeating the It Lives boss in the Womb 2 with ???

What it does: This item can change any item into the game into any other random item. However, you must defeat 3 roomfuls of enemies to recharge it.
