The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth28 views1 favorites2 min readby FishView on Steam ↗

Downloading the resources

In order to start modding the Binding of Isaac you need to download the game's resources, to do this go to the Binding of Isaac in your Steam Library and right click it, hover over "Manage" and then click "Browse local files", or alternatively navigate to the local files by opening your file browser and click through "Windows (C:)>Program Files (x86)>Steam>steamapps>common>The Binding of Isaac Rebirth". In the local files you will find a folder called "tools", open it and find the ResourceExtractor file, click the Application of the same name and it will open a command window, press Enter as prompted and sit back as it downloads.

Finding the resources after downloading

After the ResourceExtractor is done, back out of the tools folder to find the "resources" "resources.jp" and "resources.kr" files, this guide will only focus on the main "resources" file.

Inside the "resources" file

Inside the file you will find many different resource files, if you are looking to edit any visuals you will want to look for the "gfx" file, if you want to edit any sound effects you will want to look for the "sfx" file, if you want to edit any music you will want to find the "music" file, etc.

Modifying the resources

once you found the specific gfx, sfx, music, or what ever you may be modifying, you will need to make a mod folder, navigate to "Windows (C:)>Users>(your computer username)>Documents>My Games>Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ Mods" create a new file in this folder and name it what ever you want to call your mod, then make a file inside of that one called "resources" and another file in that and so on and so forth until you end up with what ever file branch you found your resource in, this will be where you put the modified resource when you are done.

Tools

This section will cover the two tools i would recommend for mod making, these are free, safe websites/applications i have used to make mods.

For gfx related resources i would use Piskel[www.piskelapp.com]

For sfx related resources i would use Audacity[www.audacityteam.org]

Posting your mod

After making your mod, put it in your mod folder, and run the game, test and debug it to make sure it works, and then go back to the local files, tools, and find and run the application "ModUploader" click "Choose Mod" then navigate to your mod folder and click the "metadata", then add tags, a thumbnail, and a description, and post.

ERRORs and Troubleshooting

If your mod fails to load consult this Youtube video made by catinsured, it's a part of a much larger series of videos focused on making the Binding of Isaac mods
