How to Terrorize Tyrants

Overview

Tyrants. DOOM: Eternal's take on the CyberDemon, with heavy resemblance to the one from DOOM (1993). The boss that's been terrifying people for almost 30 years now. But how do you kill them? Well, that's where I come in. You'll first encounter this annoying hellspawn in Nekravol, or the ARC Complex's Slayer Gate, if you're brave enough to get the Unmakyr on your playthrough. A Super Heavy with a whopping 10,000 health. That's twice as much as a Doom Hunter's sled.

What they do

With an impressive healthpool, and a demonic design to match, these demon rulers can throw you off, and easily overwhelm you in a fight. One good thing is that they're very slow, meaning they'll trudge around the arena to locate you. This lets you avoid them quite easily, and their attacks aren't very devastating. It can fire missiles like the Doom Hunter, fire a laser from it's arm cannon. Both of these are easy to dodge, and can be evaded with a dash. if you're behind cover, the Tyrant will fire missiles from the sky, easy to dodge as well if you look for and avoid the warning circles. The attacks I find to be deadly, however are the ones they'll dish out up close. The Tyrant can form an arm-blade, which they swing, dealing high damage on impact. Not only that, the swing shoots out a projectile. It can also stomp on the ground, creating a high damage AOE attack as well as a deadly stomp that can trample your puny slayer in seconds. I recommend to stay at range when fighting these demons, and try to deal with other enemies until it's safe to attack.

How to defeat them

Use a Tyrant's speed to your advantage. Use high damaging weapons on them, and strafe around the arena to deal with faster, more imminent threats. The Tyrant is so much a threat as it is a setback. It would be much worse to go up against a Marauder or an Archvile than a Tyrant, due to their extremely high offensive power. The Tyrant is more of a tank- soaks up damage, and makes the other demons do it's dirty work. Now, the Tyrant can certainly kill you, so make sure to stay mindful and strafe carefully around your arena. What I always use is my Ballista, SSG, and Frag Grenades. I shoot in two Frag Grenades at the tyrant. (seeing as they usually have an entourage of Fodder and Heavy Demons by their side) Then, I Meathook to the Tyrant, SSG, dash backwards, and begin to quick switch between the two weapons. You can also use the Rocket Launcher and Precision Bolt as well. For a newer player who isn't as well versed in the combat mechanics, freeze the tyrant, and use the Chaingun with either mod, depending on your preference. Energy Shield for more defensive minded players who want to dish out good damage and still stay at good health. But, the Quad Turret (my old love, before I discovered how great the energy shield was.) is for players who don't mind taking a bit of damage to melt a scary demon. Although, I do recommend attempting to be more creative with your combos in the future. The Chaingun is just a start.
