Legend

Evidence - To identify a ghost, you need to find different pieces of evidence.

Hunt sanity - Every ghost can hunt only when the average sanity is below a certain point. You can also use this to identify the ghost you're dealing with.

Speed during hunts - Every ghost has a certain speed during hunts, measured in m/s, the standard speed is 1.7m/s.

Ability - Almost every ghost in the game has a special ability that you can use to tell what ghost it is.

Tell - A tell is something that confirms the ghost type, for example, if a ghost doesn't hunt before 180s after getting smudged, it's a Spirit (or a Mimic).

Elimination - An elimination is the opposite of a tell, it's something that lets you confirm that it is not a certain ghost type. For example, if the ghost hunts before 180s after getting smudged, it is not a Spirit.

Spirit

Evidence: EMF 5; Spirit Box; Ghost Writing.

Hunt Sanity: 50%.

Speed during hunts: 1.7 m/s.

Tell: After smudging the ghost, it will wait 180s before hunting, instead of the regular 90s.

Elimination: If the ghost hunts less than 180s after getting smudged, it is NOT a Spirit.

Wraith

Evidence: EMF 5; Spirit Box; D.O.T.S.

Hunt Sanity: 50%.

Speed during hunts: 1.7m/s.

Ability: Can teleport to a random player, leaving an EMF 2 on that location.

Hunt sanity: 50%.

Speed during hunts: 1.7m/s.

Ability: Can ROAM towards a random player and leave an EMF 2 when it reaches the player.

Tell: If the ghost disappears when you take a picture of it and you can't see it in the "Ghost" photo, it is a Phantom; Phantom is almost invisible during a hunt, due to it blinking really rarely.

Elimination: If you can see the ghost in "Ghost' picture, it is not a Phantom; If the ghost does not disappear when you take a picture of it, it is not a Phantom.

Poltergeist

Evidence: Spirit Box; UltraViolet; Ghost Writing.

Levitate and throw - multiple items in a small range will start floating slowly and then will be thrown across the room.
Throw - multiple items in a small range will be thrown across the room.
Each one of these variations will have decrease nearby player's sanity by 2% per item thrown; Throws items much more often and with more force during hunts.

And remember, it is always The Mimic, unless proven otherwise.

Tell: If you hear the ghost being fast during a hunt and then speeding up with LOS, it is a Moroi; If after hearing a whisper through Parabolic Microphone your sanity passively drops even when you are in a well-lit room, it is a Moroi; Drain your sanity to around 40%, wait for a hunt and take sanity medication, if the ghost slows down, it is a Moroi.

Thaye

Evidence: Ghost Orbs; Ghost Writing; D.O.T.S.

Hunt sanity: Depends on the age.

Speed during hunts: Depends on the age.

Ability: Starts the contract with 0 age and every 1-2 minutes tries to age. If a player is in the room with the ghost, it ages, otherwise, it waits 30s and tries to age again.

Tell: If you have an Ouija Board, ask "How old are you" and wait a little, then come back and ask the same question again. If the age increases, it's a Thaye. However, if the age decreases, it's The Mimic; If the ghost is slower and slower with each hunt, it's a Thaye.

Elimination: If the ghost has normal speed, it is not a Thaye.
