Best and easiest way to launch Civ6 in SteamOS/Linux
Introduction
When you click "PLAY" for Civilization VI (e.g. Civ6), it starts a Launcher Window first before the Game. Publisher 2K choose it this way, although Valve recommends not to use Launchers, because it causes problems like this. This problem results in a failure to start the game.
The native Linux version of Civ6 just needs this little and very easy tweak to start. There's no need to skip the 2K Launcher and also there's no need to use Proton (Steam Play) as a workaround. The native Linux Version of Civ6 has a better performance on any Linux System compared to the Proton Version.
Solution
- Go to the Game's Options
right click on Civ 6 Title in Standard View or Small View
- Choose "Properties"
- Fill in this Code into your Civ6 Launch options:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libfreetype.so %command%
just copy & paste the code into the launch options text field
- Done. Click the Button "PLAY" and enjoy. You`re welcome. ;-) [/list]
