hold Control while you grab and pull a LIMB segment. Don't try to do it with a joint, it won't work. And obviously you can't use the first one and just get a ball. You have to keep the whole thigh.

This is kinda funky and inconvenient probably because you were never supposed to do this what is wrong with you. Basically, grow the first joint and shrink the other. Try to move the second one so that it isn't so pointy. Alternatively, you can shrink the closer end and grow the opposite.
