How to win as Russia every time
Contents
This assumes you have ALL expansions. (idk, just buy Anthology for $30 when it is 90% off or something).
- First of all, make sure there is a lot of tundra on the map, since this heavily relies on tundra (which is Russia's forte). You may want to make a "cold" map in advanced settings under temperature, since this increases snow and tundra and decreases desert. This is completely optional though.
- This is one of the most important things you have to do. You have to go into game modes and toggle "Secret Societies" mode, since they have the most important governor abilities for this strategy to work.
- Start up your game, settle where you want (preferably on the edge of tundra and the warmer, grassland/plains tiles, but this is up to you), and you should be guaranteed an early pantheon (even without the God-King economic policy).
3.5. (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT) When you find a goodie hut, go over it with one of your units and capture it. You will likely find the Voidsingers secret society. Immediately assign a governor title, and they will give you a unique monument replacement (this will get better, trust me).
- This is also super important, while it is likely that Religious Settlements is available, and it is SUPER tempting, resist the urge because you must pick Dance of the Aurora (gives holy sites, or in Russia's case, Lavras, a standard adjacency bonus (+1) to tundra tiles).
- When you finally found a religion, (not required) choose Work Ethic to make your already cheap Lavras super O.P. (around +6 production along with faith when surrounded completely by tundra). This will give new cities a huge boost in production after they produce this district. If you are playing with Heroes mode, make sure to pick up Hercules to complete districts instantly.
- When you complete development of the Theology civic ([classical era civic] should already be boosted with your founded religion), You should consider plugging in the Scripture policy for double Larva bonus (this boosts both the faith and the production (if you chose Work Ethic).
- This is where the fun begins. When the world enters the medieval era, you can assign another governor title to the Voidsingers, then you will usually see a HUGE boost to your science, gold, and culture per turn. This is because the ability they give you now give you 15% of your faith income as gold, science, and culture. This is huge since you already making a ton of faith usually (something like 75-100 faith per turn if you are playing right). In the end game, I've had rocket artillery when the AI was in the Industrial era, which is crazy powerful.
- If going hyper-militaristic, you can choose the governor plaza building Grandmaster's Chapel (must have tier two government like Monarchy or Theocracy to unlock) that allows you to purchase military units with faith. This is useful since you will always have a huge amount of faith to use on units.
- If you get into a golden age early, you can go with the Monumentality dedication to purchase civilian units (i.e., Settlers, Builders, Traders). Since you will likely be playing wide (don't go to wide, since you may want more than just the Lavra in each city), the settlers will be nice to have to purchase with your accumulated faith.
- Theocracy with the renaissance era civic "Reformed Church" works well since you get extra faith as well as a discount on faith purchases (works well with 8 and 9).
- Absolutely dominate mid to late game.
