Overview

The goal of this guide is to provide an easy way to get the pointer-dog to level 30 fast.

Dogs have two kinds of xp:

  • Dog level (Unlocks perks)
  • Job level (How good your dog is at it's job)

You will level both a lot, but your dog-level will rise the fastest.

When I hit dog-level 30, the job-level was at 10.

You can just continue below technique to also get the job-level to 15 quite fast.

Personally, I stopped at dog-level 30, since that lets me unlock all the perks.

Setup

You can level your dog by:

  • Giving it commands
  • Letting it do it's job

In this guide, we're doing both. A lot.

Step one is simple:

Find a rabbit's burrow

I opted for Salzwiesen Park, because there's a lot of easily visible burrows.

You can try any other map, of course. The main thing is you find a burrow.

The grind

When you found your rabbit's burrow, just camp it.

I opted for European rabbits, and a good time to camp the burrow is at 13:00.

The rabbits come out earlier, but if you get there at 13:00, the rabbits are pretty much guaranteed to be out and about.

Follow these simple, boring steps and you will level up your pointer dog super fast:

  • While camping the rabbit's burrow...
  • Select your dog command-wheel
  • Select "Point"
  • In the command-wheel "point"-submenu, specify that the dog sould find "small" animals (This step has to be done only once)
  • The dog will be searching for the close by rabbits
  • When it finds a rabbit, it will point and get xp
  • When the dog points, praise it from the command wheel
  • Next, command the dog to lie down (This is done so the stamina never depletes)
  • Let the dog rest for 10-15 seconds
  • Repeat!
  • Command the dog to point again...

I found below sequence to work nicely, since I heard in some developer stream that praising the dog when it does something successfully gives more.... bond? xp? Idk, anyways, it's good when you praise your dog regularly.

So here's the sequence I ran:

  • While the dog is resting: Do one praise
  • Set the dog to pointing
  • While it's state is "searching", do another praise
  • When it's pointing, do one more praise
  • Tell the dog to lie down
  • Count to 15
  • Repeat! 😄

Conclusion

Rabbit's burrows are nice, because there's usually more than one rabbit there.

You can also let the dog spot-point, if you like.

Spot-pointing works as follows:

  • Spot an animal with your binoculars
  • While the animal is highlighted, open your dog's command wheel and select "spot-point"
  • Your dog will then track the highlighted animal
  • This can help speed things up, since you can now control which rabbit (or other animal) the dog tracks, so it won't take too long getting from tracking to pointing.
  • The recommendation is of course to choose the animal closest to the dog, for obvious reasons

Generally speaking, I would assume that my guide will work on any stationary animal.

I just did it with rabbits because it seemed convenient (and also really, really stationary).

Anyways, happy hunting!

Woof!! 🐶
