Upgrading from Revamp 5.0/5.1.0 to 5.1.1
Intro
The recent Revamp updates[www.revampxv2.com] require a game update and full mod (including modding tool/dependency) reinstallation, so I made this to show how to do so without having to redownload the entire game again.
A simplified summary of the steps covered are:
It's worth noting that when it comes to cleaning out the old mods only Revamp, XV2Patcher, and XV2INS are detailed. While 99% of other mods should also get removed in the process, any with files that reside outside the game's /data/ directory won't be because there are just too many possibilities to list. You should remove any that you know of though, as the updated game and Revamp will likely break any that you previously had.
A simplified summary of the steps covered are:
- Delete old versions of mods and their configs
- Update the game from 1.22.02 to 1.25.02 (if upgrading from 5.0)
- Reinstall/reconfigure up-to-date versions of mods

Upgrading from 5.0
- Close Steam
- Backup your save just in case (<steam_install>/userdata/<your_steam_id>/323470/remote/DBXV21/DBXV2.sav)
- Delete the following from the game's folder (<steam_library>/steamapps/common/DB Xenoverse 2/). Depending on how you installed XV2Patcher and XVINS originally some folders/files may not exist, which is fine. Just be sure to remove any that do.
- 📁 /-- alternative dll --/
- 📁 /data/
- 📁 /patcher_compiler_script/
- 📁 /XV2PATCHER/
- 📁 /bin/Internal/
- 📄 /bin/dinput8.dll
- 📄 /bin/xinput1_3.dll
- 📄 /bin/xv2ins.exe
- 📄 /bin/(any other "xv2***.exe" files)
- 📁 /-- alternative dll --/
- Delete the following from %APPDATA%[www.pcgamingwiki.com] (Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ ... Linux: <steam_library>/steamapps/compatdata/454650/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/)
- 📁 /LB Mod Installer/
- 📁 /XV2INS/
- 📁 /LB Mod Installer/
- Assuming you previously bypassed Steam's forced update system to more easily stay on 1.22.02, edit <steam_library>/steamapps/appmanifest_454650.acf in a text editor and change:
- "StateFlags" value from "4" to "6"
- "manifest" value from "7238901667150908628" to "6619716261412161299"
- "StateFlags" value from "4" to "6"
- Start Steam
- Let the game update (but don't launch it yet!). It may have an error about missing files initially, but the update system should resume just fine (revalidate the files if it doesn't). Expect ~7GB to be downloaded.
- Download and install the newest 1.25.02-compatible versions of XV2INS and XV2Patcher[videogamemods.com] like usual. Windows users can use the details below, but Linux players will need to see my technical guide for Proton nuances, extra required steps, etc.:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3624858675- For XV2Patcher: extract /XV2PATCHER/ to the game's root folder and either /bin/xinput1_3.dll OR /-- alternative dll --/dinput8.dll to the game's /bin/ folder (NOT BOTH! Which one depends on if you have controller detection issues or not)
- For XV2INS: extract xv2ins.exe to the game's /bin/ folder and run it at least once!
- Configure any XV2Patcher settings you want in /XV2PATCHER/xv2patcher.ini
- For XV2Patcher: extract /XV2PATCHER/ to the game's root folder and either /bin/xinput1_3.dll OR /-- alternative dll --/dinput8.dll to the game's /bin/ folder (NOT BOTH! Which one depends on if you have controller detection issues or not)
- Download and install Revamp 5.1.1[www.revampxv2.com] (and any other 1.25.02-compatible mods you may need). It'll take awhile, especially during the "Saving files" stage once it starts hitting around the ~32,000th file mark (at least in my experience).
- Once complete you should be good to go!
Upgrading from 5.1.0
This is much simpler as the game and modding tools/dependencies are already at the version you need. The gist is to delete Revamp 5.1.0 files (which will unfortunately include any other mods in /data/) then just install the new 5.1.1 version.
- Backup your save just in case (<steam_install>/userdata/<your_steam_id>/323470/remote/DBXV21/DBXV2.sav)
- Delete the following from the game's folder (<steam_library>/steamapps/common/DB Xenoverse 2/):
- 📁 /data/
- Delete the following from %APPDATA%[www.pcgamingwiki.com] (Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ ... Linux: <steam_library>/steamapps/compatdata/454650/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/):
- 📁 /LB Mod Installer 3/
- Re-run /bin/xv2ins.exe at least once!
- Download and install Revamp[www.revampxv2.com] (and any other 1.25.02-compatible mods you may need). The 5.1.1 installer doesn't seem to have the incredibly slow installation speed that the 5.1.0 version did, so it shouldn't take too long.
FAQ
- Q: Why not just do Steam's "validate files" option to clean out mod files?
A: In my experience that only impacts files that Steam knows about (i.e. that are part of the manifest). Extra stuff (e.g. anything in the /data/ folder, or the XV2Patcher .dlls, etc) doesn't get consistently cleaned out. - Q: Can't I just install the new Revamp on top of the old version?
A: I didn't test that but if that's even possible (and I don't see how or why it would be) it seems like it'd be a terrible idea with way too many chances for bugs, especially since the game and all modding tools/dependencies/etc. have to be updated as well. - Q: Why not use an installer mod's uninstallation feature?
A: Because they don't work on my setup and even if they did I wouldn't rely on it in this situation. - Q: Why not just reinstall the whole game?
A: It takes ~35GB of bandwidth to reinstall vs ~7GB to update. Steam's "uninstall" feature also won't clean out mod files (unless you manually delete the remnants afterwards) or those in %APPDATA% because it's hot garbage. - Q: Will <mod> work still?
A: No idea. Consult the mod's page or ask the mod devs. Anything previously stated as being "Revamp compatible" probably won't though, since unless they've updated they're relying on Revamp v5.0 and game v1.22.02 code/assets/etc. - Will my Revamp 5.0 (game v1.22.02) save work in 5.1.1 (game v1.25.02)?
Yes. Make sure you've followed the step to back it up beforehand though, just in case!
