Agents upskilling!
The Stress of Agents
Hello guys my name is Sober_Bender
Today i just wanted to introduce a few keys aspects of Agents to you, incase yor not really sure on what to do with them or how to use them or which agent will do what exaclty, and in brief.
Im not going to have section after section of this guide just ramble on about something you would rather be doing yourself on the campaign map.
Agent Types
The three types of agents are Champions, Dignitarys and Spys.
As you play, you will find you will use one the most and non of the others, personally I have used the Spy because ive been playing total war Since Rome/ Babarian Invasion, so its what im used to, but later i learnt the Dignitary is very helpful with Squalor broken Provinces, and raising Taxes in low Squalor Provinces.
Every agent once hired, is at a certain age with either no skills or 1-2 skills for you to pick depending on any bonus buildings within that province, so they can be used and shaped to how you choose. For example a Spy can be a great Assasin, or City damager/ Army damager. He could be good at all things, or unbeatable at some skills. Like the old saying "Jack of all trades, or Master of one"
I think the master of one is always most effective
So heres my take on the agents and what i use them for....
Champion
I tend to always have this agent grouped with my most popular armies, due to the fact they have bonuses of morale, fending off enemy agents from your general, impose fear in foreign provinces. Theyre always very handy when you have agents constantly working against you, the champion can slaughter them with ease.
Dignitary
I will always have this agent spending time in provinces with a high taxation yield, or a enemy province with a high taxation yeild. Reasoning for this is in your province he can promote tax raises and at the same time prevent squalor, and inside enemy territory he will lower the tax, and boost squalor. The squalor factors this agent helps with i dont rely on heavly with as i tend to not venture to far down the squalor pathway of building citys.
Spy
Ohh yes my favourite agent!!!
They move undetected, assasins, can stop armies in their tracks, inflict unrest amongst towns and if used well enough even provinces, and lastly like they have in previous titles they hold a larger line of sight then most units in the game. So what do i do with mine you ask?
I always field the maximum number of Spys at all times, which i will have a 2 to 1 ratio of Assasins to Town reckers. I cant stand it when you have unrest in a province, and you study the map to see the enemy has clutered whatever agents they have around your major city just to tick you off. Easyest way to make them disapear is a concealed blade, or drinks full of poison.
Times I have found them most useful is when im being raided by 2 to 3 full stack armies, and yet i have only got a 1 full stack army defending the homelands, you wreck the baggage train and the marching of troops towards you comes screaming to a hault!!!
How to Upskill?
Important....Must Read
I find there are 3 ways of Upskilling your Agents
Using there unique ability buttons inside there info tab, this will be generally left hand side of the tab when you are viewing your agents skills, and can be activated once a turn anywhere on the map.
Giving the agent specific orders, assasinate the enemy agent, or general, inflict unrest, raise taxes, boost morale, wreck baggage train, poison provisions and much more. After many times of the agent using his skills in practise he will level up.
Acompaning the Army, i find this one the most effective, by selecting your agent and grouping them with a army, or general they will be constantly working which gives them the xp to level up so quick. It took me a while to learn this as my rookie Champions faced of against enemy veteran generals and agents and lost all the time.
The rate in which they grow there skills working under a army will be quicker then any of the other 2 methods, and I recomend you try it yourself, you will soon be pushing out the most dominant agents in the game.
Best of luck!!!
So this guide comes to an end, i hope you enjoyed reading and take on board some useful information to put into practise. Also i would like to say aswell this was my very first Guide, have been putting the pieces together for a while to bring to you so please
