How to change scrap mechanic loot tables (No Modding skills needed)
Introduction
If you hate reading (Like most people do) I have a Youtube video that will be linked down below:
Anyway lets get started.
This guide is for anyone and everyone, the grinders, try-harders and or regular players.
Step 1: Open the game files
Step 2: Find survival loot.lua
Step 3: Change the loot tables
Scrap mechanic is written in a programming language called "lua". don't worry though, because we won't be needing to change much. When opening the script, the first part looks like this:
We won't be changing this part, so scroll down to line 127, this is where the loot tables are. Or, where the text "--loot crates" is, past it will be all the juicy loot tables.
The loot table is split between functions, each is a different bot, chest or crate and it's loot.
Each function is structured like this:
In red, is the amount of loot you can get. It is usually a number, and you can change it to any whole number, but sometimes there is instead something called randomStackAmount( 1, 2, 3 ). Don't be alarmed, as all this means is that you will get a random amount of loot and it is in between one of 3 numbers. You can simply change the numbers or just replace the randomStackAmount altogether with any whole number.
In blue, is what loot you can get. It is a list of all the items that can be dropped. Reading and understanding the names isn't difficult, as they always have the in-game name. For example: "obj_interactive_gasengine_01" Straight away you know it is a gas engine, and the 01 means the level, so this is a level 1 gas engine. Next to each item is also a "chance" value. This is the chance or probability of getting that item as loot. You can also change the number to your liking, just like with the amount of loot. Some of them also have a Quantity value, this is how much of that item you will get. The ones that don't have it will always default to the amount of 1.
If you don't understand what certain functions or names mean, here is an vocabulary of all the names and their meanings:
