You will also lose speed depending on the terrain you travel. Forest and desert and snow and traversing over bridges gives debuff to speed.
At night you lose both some speed and some vision. Be careful early on with low Scout skill the enemy can be right in front of you at night in a forest and you will not see him before its too late.
You can find some really good Scout Companions to help out early game.
Keep speed and vision at higher than the enemies, and be extra careful travelling in areas where you can get caught because of the terrain, like crossing a bridge or riding through a canyon.
