RDR2: Honor System & Outcomes Guide

Honor in RDR2 is a morality mechanic that reflects your choices — good or bad — throughout the game. It influences gameplay, story moments, shop prices, NPC reactions, and the game’s ending.

Gain Honor By:
• Helping strangers in need
• Choosing to spare enemies
• Turning in bounties alive
• Paying off your own bounty
• Completing good deeds in random events
• Greeting people instead of antagonizing them

Lose Honor By:
• Killing innocents
• Robbing stores, coaches, or trains
• Looting corpses indiscriminately
• Choosing to kill in story missions when given a choice
• Being rude or aggressive to NPCs
• Abandoning camp obligations

Honor ranges from -8 (Very Dishonorable) to +8 (Very Honorable). Your position determines what perks and penalties you receive.

High Honor (+4 to +8):
✔ Discounts at shops and fences
✔ Better loot from enemies
✔ More frequent gifts from strangers
✔ NPCs treat you kindly
✔ Inspiring cutscene style for kills
✔ Access to certain outfits and upgrades

Neutral Honor (-3 to +3):
• Balanced experience
• No major perks or punishments

Low Honor (-4 to -8):
✘ Higher prices at shops
✘ Less loot from kills
✘ NPCs are more hostile or afraid
✘ Grimmer kill animations and cutscenes
✘ Limited access to special content

Your Honor level at the end of Chapter 6 determines Arthur’s fate and tone of the finale.

High Honor Ending:
Arthur dies peacefully watching the sunrise (if siding with John), or smiling while talking with Micah (if siding with Dutch).
He is remembered with respect.

Low Honor Ending:
Arthur dies angrily, alone and bitter — either executed by Micah or due to his wounds.
Grim, dark, and haunting tone.

Mid-Honor:
Some minor variations, but mostly defaults to low Honor outcome in tone.

Even after Arthur’s death, your Honor carries over symbolically into John Marston’s epilogue.

• Letters and gravesites differ (e.g., Arthur’s grave is serene with flowers if High Honor)
• Some NPCs will reference your choices
• Your “legacy” as Arthur is subtly felt in the world

✔ Want to be the noble outlaw? Stick to robbing only the corrupt, help townsfolk, and avoid unnecessary killing.
✔ Want to be a villain? Lean into chaos, but be prepared for a harder, colder world.
✔ Balance it for more variety and freedom in choices.
