The Backstory of Abigail Roberts

Abigail Roberts was born in 1877 and orphaned at a young age. With no family to rely on, she turned to prostitution as a means of survival. In 1894, she was introduced to the Van der Linde gang by Uncle and quickly became part of their world. During her early time with the gang, Abigail was involved with several of its men, including Arthur Morgan and, possibly, Dutch van der Linde himself.

In time, however, Abigail fell deeply in love with John Marston. At just eighteen, she became pregnant with his child and left behind her life as a prostitute. Their son, Jack, was born soon after, and the gang collectively acted as his extended family. Abigail and John later had a daughter as well.

Despite their bond, Abigail and John’s relationship was complicated. John doubted whether Jack was truly his biological son and feared that he lacked the ability to be a proper father. Struggling with these doubts, he left the gang for a year when Jack was still very young. Though he eventually returned, Abigail’s frustration with John’s detachment grew. She wanted him to take a more active role in Jack’s life, but her efforts often led to arguments, as John remained reluctant to embrace family life.
