FINAL FANTASY VII | All Materia Locations
Introduction
There are 83 individual materia abilities found throughout FINAL FANTASY VII. This guide will provide you with the locations of each materia, descriptions on how to get each materia, requirements, etc. Helpful references to the Final Fantasy Wiki[finalfantasy.fandom.com] will be linked throughout this guide. Be aware that links to materia or location names may contain spoilers; view at your own risk.
This guide can be used to get the 'Materia Overload' achievement as well, which requires you to have one of each of the following materia mastered in your inventory. If you mastered a materia and sold it, you will unfortunately have to remaster it; it must be in your inventory for this to trigger.
Some materia can be missed, and are unobtainable by normal means afterwards. Thus, it is recommended you refer to this guide throughout your playthrough. For those of you who are experiencing "FINAL FANTASY VII" for the first time, fear not! Spoiler tags have been added so feel free to browse this guide to your heart's content.

Gold Saucer Exclusives
The Gold Saucer is an area in FINAL FANTASY VII that functions as an amusement park/casino with its own currency, and lots of prizes to win—including materia, which we are here for.
The gold chocobo[finalfantasy.fandom.com] is a rare and powerful breed of Chocobo that can be utilized to access otherwise unreachable areas of the world map. It is also the easiest way to win the Chocobo races. Winning Chocobo races also trains your Chocobo for optimal breeding results.
The Battle Square[finalfantasy.fandom.com] is a section of the Gold Saucer where players participate in a colosseum battle arena to win Battle Points (BP). This currency can then be exchanged for prizes like Cloud's final limit break, and also some good ol' materia. Prizes here change in price depending on what point you are in the game, with the three determining factors of progress:- Before obtaining the Tiny Bronco[finalfantasy.fandom.com]
(prizes are expensive) - After obtaining the Tiny Bronco
(prizes are cheaper) - After obtaining the Highwind[finalfantasy.fandom.com]
(prizes are cheapest)
Many materia in the game can only be accquired by winning them as prizes in the Gold Saucer, or by finding them on islands only reachable by the gold Chocobo. Refer back here when you are ready. An entire guide is basically needed in order to prepare for this. As such, I will be referring you to Mike Bettencourt's FF7 guide on Youtube. This guide is very in-depth and will give you everything you need in order to breed your Chocobos[finalfantasy.fandom.com] and win your races. The videos embedded below are specifically helpful for this task; I reccomend using his other videos if you need any assistance throughout the game!
