Phases

There are 29 phases and four different phase modes in Madness. Completing a phase takes you to the next one after a short delay.

The phases are:
  • Harvest
  • Killstreak
  • Drive
  • Get rid of the Cops

Harvest requires that you simply kill a set number of demons. In this mode, it's a good idea to use whatever powers you have. Eruption, Soul Blast, Soul Shears, whatever. Murder is your only recourse and you have many tools to perform it.

Killstreak requires that you earn a certain combo. In this mode, it's a good idea to restrict your use of powers to emergencies, such as destroying the glowing holes in the ground, or getting rid of explosive demons. The only way to build a combo is by hitting non-explosive demons with your car. None of your powers will build your combo. You also can NOT pre-build your combo and instantly complete the phase. Your combo will instantly reset upon your next vehicular murder when the phase has started. Hey, remember those glowing holes I mentioned just a few sentences ago? Don't hit those, they will reset your combo to zero. (I can't remember if the explosive demons did this as well.)

Pro-tip: Yellow demons are less likely to dodge you. Go for yellow demons to have a better chance of keeping your combo going.

Drive is straightforward. You have to travel a set distance. You could, theoretically, perform this simply by drifting in a circle until completion (and nausea). In later phases, explosive demons will appear in large numbers, making driving slightly more difficult.

Get rid of the Cops is exactly what it sounds like. In this mode, you are chased by police cars. If you have Soul Blast, now is when you'll want to use it for rapid heat dispersion (AKA destroying cars). Activating Soul Shears and ramming them at fairly high speed also seems to be an instant demolition. And, of course, Eruption will also destroy them instantly. The first time you play this mode, Eruption and ramming speed will probably be your only options.
