Watch Dogs - Random Crashes and Loading Problems
The Problem
For a while, I was playing Watch Dogs with no problems. I had actually built this computer with this game in mind. So, it can run it fairly easily.
After picking up a few new DLC's, I started having troubles. The game kept crashing. Usually a "Blue Screen of Death" crash, or the desktop.
Through some investigation, I found the Windows 'dump' files were telling me that there was a memory overload problem. Now, that 'couldn't' be right. I have 12GB of system DRAM and 3GB on my GTX 789 Graphics card. So, I shouldn't be having memory problems. None the less, I ran diagnostics on both. Everything was fine. No problems found!
Looking on line for solutions, no one seems to have found one. Most were saying that if it was crashing, it was a hardware problem. But, there's nothing wrong with my hardware.
The Solution
Here's what I found.
When I noticed the duplications, I reasoned that, that 'must' be the problem. It dawned on me that, "What if the game is trying to load 2 copies of the same DLC's. That could make for both, a lot of confusion for the program, and one heck of a bottle neck for the system hardware.
I tried deactivating them in Steam, but that just caused the "Loading" problem I've seen so much of. It would stop loading at around 60 to 90 %.
After repeated attempts to load it, and find a solution for that on line. Again, I found no answers.
With a little more thought, I got to thinking, those DLC's have been activated inSure enough. After unchecking the boxes for the DLC's without the
So, as you can see, some of my DLC's are grayed out.
Summery
So, to summerize things. If you're having problems with Crashing, or with Loading, duplicate DLC's may be your problem.
Take a look at the JPG above and notice the way I've uncheck, therefore 'uninstalled', or "Not Installed" specific DLC's without theGive it a try if your having one, or both of these problems.
I can't garentee that it will work for everyone, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't work for most.
Please leave comments if it does work for you. Or, if you've found other solutions as well.
P.S.
The reason I'm just now posting this is because I had just recently dusted off this game, wanting to get reaquanted with it before the release of Watch Dogs II.
