CD Key bound to old/forgotten Ubisoft account fix

Overview & Solution

THIS FIX WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED THE STANDARD EDITION OF BLACK FLAG! THIS FIX WILL REQUIRE YOU TO PURCHASE THE GAME AGAIN

I bought Black Flag like 10 years ago and obviously I used the CD key given by Steam to bind it to my Uplay account and then my Uplay account to Steam. Well I have no idea what that account was and can no longer access it, as such Black Flag now wouldn't launch on my Steam account. This wouldn't have been an issue, however removing the product from your library permanently/refunding it and purchasing it again doesn't give you a new CD key, you will get the original one again. Steam allocates all players one CD key per account per game and this can't be changed. So what to do?
If you bought the standard edition:
Solution;

  1. Remove the game from your Steam Library permanently
  2. Head to the Assassins Creed Black Flag Steam store page
  3. Purchase the Gold Edition
    Steam counts the Gold Edition as a different game, and as such will give you a different CD key. You can now use this CD key instead on the Ubisoft prompt once the game is launched and you can now play your newly bound AC game! For obvious reasons, this will only work once as there isn't a different edition you can buy, and also why it only works if you originally bought the standard edition.
    I have not tried this with other Ubisoft titles but I don't see why this same method shouldn't apply to them. This is how I've done it for my account so I thought I would share it with you.
    You can always wait for the game to go on sale or purchase the key through a third party. I hope this helps!
