Download JoyToKey

Search for "JoyToKey" and visit JoyToKey(Dot)net, go the download section, download and install it.

Setup JoyToKey

Once installed, run JoyToKey. You should see a window something like this, minus my profiles on the left

Create a profile for X4 using the create button at the bottom left

Then find which button you want to bind targeting to, pressing it should make it highlight yellow on the right panel.

Double click the button, then go to the Mouse (advanced) tab at the top

Make sure the settings highlighted above are the same, then click OK

Your right panel should look something like this

Now when you press your chosen button, the mouse should be centered under your crosshair and will left click, selecting what you are pointing at.

Turn Off Head Movement

However, when you move the ship your cursor may end up unaligned with your crosshair. To stop this, turn "Head Movement Intensity" to 0 in the Game Settings

Now you should target whatever your looking at, instead of random junk you don't care about.

Enjoy!
